How many blasts to transfer for FET?

Posted by tjluvbug , 08 November 2011 · 1764 views

So today I had a telephone consult with Dr. H about my FET plans and to discuss what went wrong with this last cycle. I went into the appointment with plans to demand all this testing but in the end no tests for me. Apparently they are not necessary....though I would still feel better to have it done. Dr. H did agree to have me come in to do an endometrial biopsy in the cycle prior to my FET but no testing will be done. Apparently there are no conclusive studies that prove that any testing of the endometrium can determine whether there are implantation issues. I also asked about autoimmune and again I was told that there is no conclusive evidence to show that there is a benefit to adding in IVIG, heparin, or steroids. He did mention that in women that have experienced recurrent miscarriage in which there is a fetal heartbeat on u/s before miscarrying then adding heparin and steroids may be helpful in preventing miscarriage but not improving implantation.

I have 3 frosties and up until today I was convinced that I wanted to put one back at at time to try and get 3 good chances at it! I was told that my chances were ~ 45% with putting two back and 25% putting one back. Now I don't know what to do. I don't know if we can afford to do another fresh cycle so I want to give myself the best chances possible but it scares me to only have 2 cracks at it. I know its probably silly to think about it this way because really 3 embryos are 3 embryos whether you put them back one at a time or 2 and then 1.

So with this I put the question many embryos should I put back on my first FET? Our blasts are graded as 4BB, 3BB and 3BB and were frozen on day 6.

If my ivf goes downhill, I'm planning on transferring 3 of my 7 frosties. You have to remember too that some don't thaw well. I hope whatever you decide, that they stick. Good luck :)
my opinion only: I remember thinking that I would do anything and everything possible to maximize my chances of a successful IVF. So I had 3 embryos transferred and ended with a positive pregnancy (singular) due in 2 weeks!! If it were me, I would transfer the two given the statistics - but this is only my opinion. You and your DH will need to decide based on your individual situation and circumstances. I wish you all the best and hope for a positive cycle. Good luck!!
We transferred two on our FET (4BB and 3BC) and have a 17 week 2 day singleton on board right now. I don't know all the variables in your situation, but I think transferring one 4BB and one 3BB would be prudent. Your clinic will guide you through this though ... I know my clinic would have not let me transfer more than 2 for over age 35 and would only allow 1 if under 35 yrs.

Also, although I desperately wanted my FET to work, when beta time came, the prospect of multiples scared the heck out of me. The IVF rollercoaster was enough and I really didn't want to go through the possible complications that could come with multiples.

Bottom line, I think the 4BB is what I got my BFP with.
It sounds like you want to do one at a time so you should do that. I think that anything that makes you feel more at ease is a good thing.

On another note, I had a very, very difficult twin pregnancy. It all turned out in the end and my boys are healthy, but if I were to do it again, I would definitely put back one embryo at a time.

Good luck with your decision :).
Its a hard decision but personally I would go for two.
If I were you, I would go with two (unless your Dr. recommends otherwise). Good luck deciding!

do two.. I've done two embryos for both my IVF's and will do two for my FET and two again if i need to.. You have a greater chance of pregnancy with Dr. H said.

Go with the choice you will regret the least.
