Sad, Frustrated, Feeling Stupid

Posted by sb2010 , 24 June 2013 · 1548 views

I had my fourth egg retrieval yesterday. Yet again, my estrogen sky rockets, and I'm on OHSS watch. This time it got higher than it ever has (18,000+) and the doctor ordered Lupron rather than the traditional HcG trigger. Needless to say, the eggs weren't stellar. How could they be when they were cooked/fried in all that E2? When we started this process four years ago, age wasn't a factor, but now it is.

We feel sad and frustrated, and I feel stupid for going through yet another very similar protocol and ending up with less than desirable results.

Anyone out there consistently a high responder? Any success in dealing with it via different protocols?

Please don't feel stupid.  We are all trusting our doctors to make the right decisions for us.  Thinking of you.

Hi sb, Please do not despair. I was a very high responder, estrogen over 25,000 two days before ER. My fresh transfer didnt work but I was told that I would do better with a frozen cycle and they were right. I have two beautiful girls from a very high responder cycle. Best of luck to you.

Thank you, Maralee and KRKR. I'm feeling a bit brighter today. :) Awaiting to hear from the lab as to status of the four embryos that fertilized...

I really think you should question the IQ level of your RE, who must have known from your previous IVFs how you respond and yet he/she put you on 225 Gonal F + 75 Luveris. I don't understand why?! Challenge him/her in your WTH meeting to find out why on earth would he/she put a high responder on such an aggressive stimulation protocol that is used routinely for moderate to low responders?

You're so right, My_time_will_come! DH and I are feeling indignant at this turn of events, which, it seems to us according to ample records from previous cycles, could have been avoided.

I think a huge part of this problem is that at our clinic, you see four different doctors while you stim. You're technically the patient of only one RE, but all four see you throughout the process. The other three don't really know your history so that leaves room for a large margin of error.

We're living and learning...in the hardest way possible. :(

I am so sorry sad.png, I am hoping your embryos grow and you will have your PFP soon. Some times set backs are rewarded with some thing very good in life smile.png

Which clinic are you with? Any possibility of getting on the wait list to see Dr. V in Markham. I think you would have a better protocol and better odds of success with him.

plz don't feel sad and don't give up hope.  There are so many ladies here with positive outcome which has given me hope.   most of us here know how it feels to get that negative result and understand you well.  I'm sorry that you had to go through this.   all the best with your ET and hoping you'll come back and share your good news with us soon.  Good Luck!

I am a high responder as well. Was on 100 units of puregon and still developed over 50 follicles. My estrogen was over 25, 000 and they cancelled my fresh cycle. I've done two FETs now and have had success with both (knock on wood). Please don't lose hope and don't feel stupid.
