Had my appointment with the RE and not sure how I feel.  They have done some blood work, and DH goes for sperm test next week.  I have my two part sonohysterogram with Echovist  and follicle count tomorrow and Thursday.

Dr. said if all goes well he will meet with me again in just over 2 weeks and we will come up with a plan for first cycle.  I said I would like to try a clomid cycle but he said he would usually start with Letrozole which I am unsure about because I don't really know anything about it.  The only plus side he told me is that it reduces the risk of multiples but doesn't that mean it also releases less eggs reducing the chance of pregnancy at all?  At 39 I would have thought that they want a few more eggs because the chance of any fertalizing is less?  Plus I have previously concieved on Clomid so isn't it better to stick with something that has worked?

Hi Babybabydust,

Have their been updated concerns since your first baby. Are there any new health issues?  Different partner.

I am not entirely sure why they would give you that advice, but someone on the forum told me to be my own advocate for the best possible results so I would ask, it couldn't hurt and at the very least they can explain further why one option over another to put your mind at ease.

I look forward to hearing your updates!

There is nothing new that I know of except that I am 4 years older then I was last time I got pregnant. It is a new doctor from last time it was not a fertility clinic dr just my regular doctor I used when I conceived previously. I am a little more out of shape then I was 4 years ago and didn't lose all the weight after giving birth.  My periods have always been irregular but they are much more infrequent even for me.

I enjoyed letrozole a lot more than clomid - re side-effects. X1M. Clomid made me crazy and sweaty. Letrozole did not. Still ovulated 1 or 2 each time. We were REALLY trying to reduce the chance of multiples, so were monitored very closely. As we get older, with PCOS, we have increased risk of multiple ovulations. I have 2 corpus luteums with this pregnancy for example. Looks like both sides ovulated maybe.

Best of luck with whatever you and your Dr decide. I know people who've been successful with letrozole and again, it's indicated with PCOS for some.

WANTED TO SAY - I just got a surprise BFP and I had been given hell by all my dr's re weight. Well I went down to 162 and no pregnancy. Up at 202 and got pregnant. (still nursing, this is my prebaby weight but highest weight also.) So - again best of luck to you even if you're a bit more out of shape than you'd like. I hear you. And it can still happen.
