I know I should be happy to have any eggs retrieved because some woman can't have that, but am I the only one who gets discouraged because every time i read about average egg retrieved it's always over 10 eggs, and mostly 15 or even more than 20. I know 20 is crazy but I was at least hoping for something in the teens to have a better chance.

I just wish I didn't know that much about the whole process I.e. How many were mature, them how many fertilize. I know I can lose half of them or even more :(
God this process sucks

I totally understand. When I did a donor egg cycle, I ended up with only 2 blasts. I was devastated because we were told all along we would have so many to work with.

On the positive side, one own egg cycle we went from 6 mature eggs to 4 blasts. You never know what you might end up with.

Hopeful- just for hope and perspective - my first cycle with 17 eggs ended up with only 2 blasts transferred and 2 blasts frozen and nothing but empty arms. My second cycle only produced 6 eggs which resulted in 5 blasts and 3 babies plus 2 on ice. It truly is quality and from what ive seen on here a ton of eggs doesnt necessarily result in a ton of viable embryos. 9 actually sounds like a really solid number!

It sounds nice to have lots of eggs retrieved but for us we had about 23 eggs retrieved and we only had five blasts. It is really a crap shoot. Out of five blasts we got a son and we don't have anymore frozen blasts. It is about quality.

I agree with the others.  Almost every time I see anyone with 20+ retrieved, the quality is poor because they end up with very few blasts relative to eggs.  The clinics aim for 8-10 because that seems to be the optimal number for quality.  I think we always want more.  There are always more follicles than eggs and, of course, we want all follicles to yield an egg, but 9 is fantastic!  I will be crossing my fingers that you end up with lots of great blasts!!!  Try not to be discouraged.

Our de cycle, the donor had 8 eggs retrieved. The. Linux in skin that we worked with aims for 8-10 eggs since more than that and the quality tends to really decline! So your retrieval sounds perfect!

Well unfortunately out of the 9, only 7 were mature and only 3 of the 7 fertilized :(
After so many ivf, I just wish for once we could beat the odds and have a great number of embryos.
God willing, we can transfer 2 on day 3 which is tomorrow.
Won't be getting any news today unless it's bad news so I'm hoping we don't get a call.

Of my 8, 7 were mature. Six fertilized, and we had four on transfer day five. Transferred two but landed up having none to freeze (the other two had been questionable). Had one baby... it really does only take one. Your numbers aren't so different than mine. Praying hard for you!

Unfortunately this level of attrition is par for the course. It isn't all that comforting for you to hear that (we all want a "buffer"), but it is what it is. I had 12 eggs and only 4 fertilized (WITH ICSI!!) - a dismal failure. But it worked. This process is very long. Very disappointing. Very emotionally, physically, and financially draining. It's a "one day at a time" thing. I really hope it works for you and this is the last of your disappointments.

I'm 39 with endo

IVF #1: March 2016: Long protocol: Suprefact (200)/Menopur (225)

    9 follicles => 4 eggs => 3 mature => 3 fertilized (ICSI) => 2 blasts (one transferred, one frozen)

    BFN

IVF #2: June 2016: Microdose flare: Suprefact (40 BID)/Menopur (150)/ Gonal (300)

     7-10 follicles (?) => 12 mature eggs => only 4 fertilized w/ICSI => transferred 2 @ 3days and 1 blast frozen

     BFP:  day 14 beta = 93, day 18 beta 557 (37h doubling time)

     Ultrasound July 21 = single, live intrauterine pregnancy

     .... so hopeful it sticks!
