I am an 39. (And a half) year old woman with one embryo left. I have had two fresh transfers and one FET, all BFN. The last transfer we did estrogens and progesterone.

I have gotten two opinions (one from TRIo and one from DR. bentov new clinic Juno) regarding this last embryo and of course they are completely different! Now I have to make a decision.

Dr. nayot at TRIO suggested a long FET protocol using a low dose of lupron, and then. The estrogen and progesterone.

Dr. bentov at Juno suggests a natural cycle.

I'd love to hear from others who have tried one, the other or both and had success to help me make a decision!

Thanks in advance.

I am 39 also :)  I have embryos from when I was 36.  I have only done one FET and it was a natural FET with no medication at all (no progesterone, nothing).  We were able to do natural because I have a regular cycle, ovulate regularily and have a good lining.  I got pregnant from my one and only FET and am 14 weeks along.  I loved that there were no meds but it is a lot of monitoring.  My clinic does daily bloodtests starting around day 9, I think, to make sure they catch the LH surge to properly time the transfer.  I am not sure if Juno also does this daily monitoring as I have heard from someone that some places use ovulation prediction kits.  I wouldn't trust that method.  And, at my clinic, if they think you have missed the window or something happened, they will cancel and not thaw the embryo.

Sorry I have no experience with a medicated FET.

Good luck to you!

I did two fresh cycles and numerous FET and the only one that stuck and gave me my twins was a natural cycle. If you are regular I would say try that way but that's just my opinion.

I just felt I had to try something different as nothing had worked so far. It was nice not having to worry or wonder what was happening in there as it was with the meds. I hope whatever you choose will work for you!!!

Hi Everyone,

I am reading this topic with interest as I am facing the same choice.  Is age a factor? (I am over 40).  My cycle this year has ranged between 25-29 days but most often falls around 25-26 days.  If regular cycles is the deciding factor, would this rule me out of the natural cycle option?  Also, my RE is recommending estrace followed by progesterone.  This is much less complicated than some of the other FET protocols I have seen which involve BCPs, Lupron and steroids, but is it considered 'natural cycle'?

I am hoping to do a scratch around January 17.  Do you recall what  day you had to start monitoring and how many days you monitored?  I travel to my clinic which creates additional challenges:)  Where any able to transfer in the same cycle as a scratch?

Thanks!

Why do you think it is a risk?

Assuming you don't have lining issues and your hormones are at appropriate levels, then they would be able to time the proper transfer date with the daily blood tests.  I started those at Day 9 and then my transfer was  days after the LH surge was detected.

I didn't have a scratch so I can't comment on that aspect.

Good luck to you!

Dear amp77,

Thanks so much for your reply.  I guess I am thinking it would be risky as I only have one blastocyst and because of my age (I will soon be 48).  I made the blast when I was 44.5 years old.  My hormone levels and lining were good then, but I have not yet been checked yet for this cycle so I was surprised that they would assume everything is fine enough for natural (I am ordering my meds in advance as they are cheaper and I will be traveling for the FET).   My cycle got shorter this year.  I was always at 28 days but this year I am more like 25-27 days, so I know something has changed.

Best,

T.

I would insist in a mock cycle. This checks hormones, checks lining etc. I would not do an unmedicated without doing that first.
