I'm doing a transfer in the next few days. I'm suppose

to just transfer 1 embryo due to autoimmune disease

and age etc....although my autoimmune disease has

been stable for a long period. At least not the first time.

Just wondering if I have to do a day 3 transfer should I

insist on transferring 2? I know day 5 would be better to transfer

1 but a day 3 transfer are the embryos not high quality? I really

don't know about this. I never thought to ask my Dr when starting

this process.

Thanks.

hi!!  i think it is believed that day 5 is better because it is already know that the embryo is progressing. with day 3 the can not tell for sure but they transfer them anyway and the success rate is also high! i was talking with a doctor about this and he told me that nature sometimes helps an egg develop better inside the natural environment.  good luck with your transfer :)

I just assumed that a day 3 embryo would not be a high

quality. If it's not I would prefer to transfer 2 to give a

higher chance to conceive.

Mar42 pregnancy rates with 5 day blasts are better than with 3 day embryos. Sew results from one clinic:

https://www.ncbi.nlm...les/PMC3283075/

The thought is that a higher level pf development has been reached and a challenging stage in development passed. Usually clinic that push the 3 day embryo don't have the proper lab facilities to grow to day 5.

Well no necessarily true! They usually won't chance going to day 5 if you don't have many embryos, since as mentioned, embryos have a better chance inside your uterus
I'm planning on transferring 2 day 3 embryos if that's what I end up with

Yes I would like to transfer 2 as well if it ends up being

a day 3 transfer. Guess depending on the quality. I know

my Dr didn't want 2 to be transferred but.....we will see.

I asked my clinic if I do a 3 day transfer if I can transfer 2 embryos

and the answer is no. I guess depending on quality. So many woman

transfer 2 though. Looks like I will have to wait and see. I hope it ends up being

a day 5 transfer!

Your embies are in my thoughts. How has the week gone for you? How did the eggs do at thawing, and what day are you at now? How many fertilized?

Thanks returnable! The week has been stressful. I have been a pack of nerves.

Trying to stay calm and relaxed but easier said then done. My job is stressful too

so have been trying to relax in the evenings.

I heard from the embryologist Tuesday morning she said out of

8 eggs 6 fertilized and down to 4. She said she would call back Thursday

(today) transfer could be day 3 or day 5. So just heard back from the

embryologist and she said there are still 4 embryos but 2 look really good and

the other 2 not as good. So I will be having a day 5 transfer! So happy....

I wanted a 5 day transfer.

It's a real roller coaster ride of emotions.

I can imagine that it is not any easier than with OE. I also found the after ER to day 5/6 stressful. And the emotions are all the same. I had a hard time not thinking about it. I'm rooting for you! I also prefer day 5.

I just noticed you are at Ovo. In Québec they don't allow you to transfer 2 embryos unless you are over 37 years of age.
I wish you best of luck

Although I am over 40, my RE does not want to transfer more than one day 5 blastocyst. Personally I do not want to take the risk of a twin pregnancy (both for myself and the potential babies). Raising twins would be hard, but I don't think I could forgive myself if they had some long-term medical condition because I chose to have two put in. Of course each person has a different perspective.

Thanks 2014hopeful! I am over 40. I understand at a day 5 blast

not to transfer 2. I only wanted to transfer 2 if I was doing a day 3

transfer and if embryos were not high quality.

Returnable....I'm over 40 as well and my Dr doesn't want to transfer 2 embryos

at a day 5 blast as well. Which I understand due to my age and autoimmune disease

and I don't want to risk babies or myself either. I only want to transfer 2 if embryos

are not of a high quality and if I was doing a day 3 transfer.

If I remember correctly my Dr did say after trying a few times and the transfer fails then

I could transfer 2.
