Thanks so much for the warm welcome, i really appreciate it :)

Pattis- That's great, Ottawa is beautiful! Its nice to have a clinic buddy! I should start my first BCP early next week!

Returnable- Yes for sure! I'm a little nervous about flying home after the transfer! Not too sure of the protocol, i have to call the clinic on day one of my cycle. I will keep you girls posted!

Its nice to have this support, thank you :)

I'm in Ottawa and live pretty close to the clinic so luckily there isn't much travel involved for me. Where are you? I have a lot of flexibility in my day at work and can control my schedule to a certain extent so was able to go in for monitoring in the morning and work later in the day. I only had to take the day of my retrieval off the last time as my transfer ended up being on a Sunday. I actually found it harder to work after getting a negative result because I was so down compared to anytime during the IVF process. I took the week off when we're expecting to get the news this time to give myself a bit of a buffer. Are you taking some time off during the process?

pattis- That's great that you have that flexibility, that definitely helps! I have a fairly flexible schedule as well, which is great. I am also planning on taking time off work when we get home and after the transfer. After our 5 failed IUIs we were really disappointed of course. There were times i had to leave work early, or not go in at all! Trying not to get my hopes up for our first IVF but as you know, that can be hard! Sending positive vibes to us all :)

Pattis - I'm in Mississauga, also close to my clinic. I've already had to cancel a trip to Vancouver since I wasn't carting my drugs around and worrying about timing/time zones. Otherwise it's just managing people's expectations. I didn't think about the 'after' part. I'll make sure to keep my days free close to testing. Good call!

Agreed! Travelling with these meds is too stressful. I cancelled a trip for a wedding next weekend. Too close to potential egg retrieval and worrying about keeping meds at the right temperature and timing is just not worth it.

Has anyone been struggling with the 1 vs. 2 embryo transfer decision? We haven't decided what we want to do if we are lucky enough to have two good embryos. Of course it would depend on what the doctor recommends but I think I am leaning towards transferring two.

I actually wish we had the option, but this is a funded round for us. But I'm not complaining!

I think if I had the choice, I'd do two... if that helps!

That's a great point! How do i go about traveling with my meds, keeping them at a certain room temperature! Any advice?

The medication only needs to be refrigerated to keep the long term shelf life. Once opened, and if used within a couple of weeks it is absolutely okay without refrigeration. I think they are supposed to be stored between 5 and 25oC.

Two IVFs and no chromosomally normal blasts to transfer...we are done with my eggs.

On my last IVF I was told to keep Gonal-F in the fridge and so when we did a day trip out of town I just took it in a cooler. This time we went on a skiing trip with Suprefact which says not to freeze so I wrapped it up in some winter gear and left in my car for the day. Luckily it wasn't too cold out and it didn't freeze. I'm sure it's not as big of a deal as I think to keep the meds at certain temperatures but they are so expensive that I don't want to risk it!

Pattis- I forgot to ask you, does the Ottawa clinic email you all the corresponding dates for taking the meds? I'm supposed to start the BCP soon, just wondering when i will start the other meds!

Thanks :)

I have never received any medication instructions from the clinic over email. It's always been a one step at a time kind of process. They give you the date and instructions for the first meds and then when you come in the next time for bloodwork or ultrasound, they discuss the timing for the next steps. In a way it is frustrating because you don't know the whole schedule in advance but I guess the medication timing depends on how you respond along the way.

Oh man, aunt flow just decided to show up 2 and a half weeks early. Calling clinic tomorrow morning with day 1, and will go down Friday for day 2 monitoring. Imagine I will start stimming that evening or Saturday evening. In a mild panic because I was not expecting to start this early!

Welcome to all the new ladies in the February group! Wishing you all the best of luck!

LNewfoundland, like pattis mentions, you will be given starting doses of your medications for the first 3-5 days, after which they will reassess based on your progress and response to meds. They should give you an idea of protocol before cd#1 thought I would think.

MrsR usually I have heard of people's AF coming late when they waiting for it. You are a special case :) I hope all goes well for you tomorrow.

AFM I started my orgalutran injections yesterday and do those until Sunday. I had to get them at another pharmacy as my ivfmeds order is still stuck in customs. ivfmeds is trying to resolve the issue, but it is a tough thing to do as customs agents may respond to inquiries, but give info only whether shipment is release or not. They give no idea on if/when.

@edubbs14 - Cool. There are a few of us starting right around the same time! I am on antagonist protocol. I have been suppressed on Visanne for the last 2 months, as well as been taking 75mg of DHEA and CoQ10. I will be taking 300iu gonal-f, 150iu menopur, and this time I am also taking 3.33iu omnitrope (human growth hormone). What's your protocol looking like?

@returnable - thank you. I am a little worried I will have no follicles hardly, like last time. So just trying to stay positive and hope the DHEA has been working. Hopefully you get your meds soon!

@LNewfoundland - So you don't start until March? I get all my meds for IVF at the pharmacy...I imagine you would too.

LNewfoundland - Yes, things can often seem confusing at the beginning but the nurses will guide you through each step along the way. At the Ottawa clinic they will send the prescription for the BCP to your local pharmacy because you have to start that several weeks before your injectables. The Ottawa Fertility Clinic has a pharmacy on the second floor that specializes in fertility meds and services only its patients. Your doctor will send your prescriptions there and you will be able to pick up all of your meds when you come in for appointments along the way. It's convenient because the pharmacist is great and very knowledgeable about all the IVF meds.
