Hello, just starting to get testing done.

Our family doctor has given us a referral to get a semen analysis done, and Genesis is requesting we get an "advanced semen analysis" from their clinic which will cost $330. Is it much different from the semen analysis that is covered by BC Health?

They have mentioned an Hyaluronan Binding Assay test being part of the advanced semen analysis. Is this generally not done by a regular lab?

Thanks in advance.

I would do the extra testing....head it been recommended to us earlier, we would have known about hubby s antisperm antibodies much earlier....the way I look at it, the more info you have from the get go the better. I think my clinic does that or a similar binding assay and it basically shows how many down would be able to possibly penetrate an egg. With antisperm antibodies we had no binding on one of our tests!!! This helps decide whether you would need icsi or not...
Good luck!!

I also recommend the additional testing as it is much more detailed.  At our clinic, it is mandatory if you are doing IVF.  Had we known that, we would have done it right away rather than wait.
