Just received info packet today and there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of actual information in it. Thought maybe people who have been through the process could help me out....

For instance, one of the sections ask what country we're interested in adopting from but we haven't even decided that....I thought there would be info about different countries in the pkg. Do I just have to do online searching about different countries myself??

Please help....this is more confusing/overwhelming than digesting all the info about IVF...

Thx!

I'm doing a Provincal adoption so I don't have any information for you but maybe do a google search for different countries you've heard about....or call the people who sent you the information and ask for more.....

Good luck......and you're right, it's more confusing and overwhelming than IVF ever was!

HI there,

Are you going through family services in Nova Scotia for your adoption? If you are you can call your Worker and ask him/her. We did the adoption classes in Nova Scotia and I think we filled it out for Canada only as international adoption was too expensive at that time for us.

Hi,

You do really need to research the COuntries yourself. Many international agencies like Kids LInk,Cafac, Childrens bridge will have some information written up on each COUntry about wait times, and ages of children available for adoption. You can google them on the internet. ALso on Yahoo you can find several groups of people adopting from countries. Hope this helps. Don't let yourself get overwhelmed. This process is time consuming, but well worth it.

Good Luck

Thanks - I feel like I'm living on the internet at the moment. There's so much information out there, it's hard to know which is most useful.
The names of the agencies is helpful to help narrow it down. Thanks!

I recieved an info pkg from Community Services of NS but it really is just a general form with no information about countries. Just tells you which are members of the Hague Convention. It also states that they will provide you with a list of certified social workers only after you complete this initial paperwork. So I guess that's what I'll have to do...

Thanks for the info everyone! Hope you all have a great week!
