Question about thyroid

I recently did a full thyroid panel. TSH was normal, but fT4 and fT3 were low. I told my RE, but she only goes by TSH and would not increase my synthroid.

This doesn't make sense to me. TSH only stimulates the thyroid to produce more thyroid hormone. It doesn't have a direct physiological function that would affect fertility.

However, the thyroid hormones definitely do. Wouldn't it make sense to address the low thyroid hormones despite normal TSH?

I realize I may not get an answer here, but thought I'd try :)

Me: 37, amh 11.9 pmol, AFC 14-26 depending on month

FSH 7-12 (12 happened one random time after a lot of meds. It's usually around 7)

Compound heterozygous for MTHFR

Hypothyroid

 

DH: 42, SA is perfect and DNA frag completely normal

 

TTC since July 2014

Many many rounds of meds (clomid, fsh, letrozole), 4 IUIs, 5 chemicals but nothing more

 

IVF #1 (Feb 2016):

BCPs 3 weeks, 450IU gonal, 75 IU luveris, and Cetrotide as antagonist

Cancelled because 6 lead follicles were over 1.5 cm after only 3 days of stims!

Should've kept going because I ended up with 12 follicles and estradiol was 11,000.

Obviously they wouldn't let me try naturally, but kind of wish I did. This process is draining sad.png

 

IVF #1.2 (March 2016):

Natural Start. Same protocol as above and same thing happened.

6 lead follicles took off and were over 1.5 cm by day 3 (wonder if this is d/t high dosage)

12 follicles, 6 retrieved, 4 mature, all 4 fertilized

3 perfect by day 3, all arrested by day 5, nothing to transfer

 

IVF #2 (November 2016)

Switched clinics to Create.

Currently in full workup. Doing immunology and clotting testing, along with hysteroscopy to r/o anything other RE may have missed

Will have natural start, and do letrozole with 275IU gonal F 

 

UPDATE October 2016: Natural BFP while waiting to start IVF in November. We're floored! th_abfp.gif

1st Beta 685 at 16dpo

2nd Beta 2468 at 19dpo

3rd Beta 5445 at 22dpo

4th Beta 11,618 at 25dpo (why on earth is my RE doing so many Betas?!)

U/S 6w4d:  perfectly on schedule. HB 132. RE said there's only a 5% miscarriage rate at this point!

U/S 10w3d: growth still on schedule. HB 173.

Harmony results came back. Looks like a healthy GIRL!!!

How low were they?
Me: 30 Hypothyroid, Endo, MTHFR, elevated Cytokines,TNF 36.8 (13.2-30.6) IFN 27.5(5.8-20.5). 2006-Twin m/c @ 8wks w/ex BF followed by 22 BFN's ... 6 months on clomid & 4 IUI's. Married for 5yrs to the love of my life. We want to make that love childDH: 31 Azoospermia (NOA) FSH 28.3, LH & testosterone levels normal Normal genetics. NOA possibly due to injury when younger.IVF/ICSI Barbados 201312/3-ER! 18 eggs, 12 mature & 10 fertilized!12/8-ET! 2 beautiful beans snuggled into place! 7 snowflakes!12/13- BFP12/17- Beta 9dp5dt 255!12/19 Beta 11dp5dt 392, 13dp5dt 585???12/26 Beta 3,388!1/2 U/S TWINS!! HB's 122& 1211/20 U/S Lost Baby B @ 7-8 weeks. fT4 was 10 pmol/L(12-20 ref range)
fT3 was 3.6 (3.5-6.0)

My thyroid specialist always wanted my FT4 in the higher range (maybe around 15-17) when I was ttc and when I was pregnant.  She was never overly concerned about the TSH level (I have graves disease and my TSH was always very low during ttc and pregnancy).  I would see if you could get a referral to a doctor who has more specific thyroid knowledge.

Hi mrsfinxy. That's exactly what I was thinking. Because the thyroid is so intricately related to fertility, I'm suprised REs aren't more educated. I'm going to continuee my t4 and add dessicated thyroid to increase both t4 and t3.
