I don't have much of a tear but the nurse told me to do sits baths (sp?) with non scented Epsom salts.
I do them two three times a day and I feel like my pee situation is slowly improving (alltho not very fast!)

Hi all! Sorry I've been MIA. Last I posted we were doing the 2nd foley and going to start pitocin after 6 hrs. So we did that. I was having mild contractions regularly but no real cervical changes. Made it to 34 units (40 is max) and the contractions were too fast (every 40 secs...felt like worst period cramp/back pain ever but not labour level). So we negotiated to take a break so I could sleep (had been up 24hrs by this point and on clear fluids only with every 30 mins bp check for like 10 hours at this point). So stopped the meds I ate and slept. At 945 the next am my cervix was still essentially 2cm so they broke my water and started pitocin again. Made it to 40 units by about 7ish with no changes so then I had a csection.

Breastfeeding is hard, and I'm taking fenugreek and blessed Thistle to increase my supply and so far that seems to be helping. I'll try and figure out how to post a pic on here :)

ltvixen do you smell like maple syrup yet? thats one of the side effects of the fenugreek

We just got out of the hospital after a 3 day stay. They suspect that Beau either has something called Hirschspring disease (missing nerves in the colon) or colitis (like her older brother).

They did a lower GI series with contrast and biopsies and taught me how to do colon irrigations every six hours so we are now home until Thursday when the pathology results should be in.

Hardest part was that for 36 hours I couldnt feed her (we needed to get her belly distension to come down), I felt like a horrible mom, she would root and cry at the smell of me whenever I got close. We've got a stressful bit ahead but all will work out.

So glad your little girls arrived safe and well Yellowknife and ltvixen! Congratulations !!

That must be so hard Cassandra! What happened that made them start investigating her bowels?

Isabel is doing well. She's gaining weight well but I've still got some nasty cracks on my nipples. Still working on that latch. And she's started spitting up after every feed so that's pretty messy!! I think she might have the beginnings of some diaper rash so I've put some sudocream on it. Hope she feels better, poor girl.

ITVixen, congrats on your baby. Didn;t seem like it went "as planned" but does it ever? I'm just glad she's here and healthy!

Cassandra, any news?

Things here are good, Naya's gained weight and pretty much her birth weight. Luckily her latch is great and i have ample supply (so far) so im pumping as well. We had to top her up with formula the first few days but she doesnt need it anymore.

My parents are here and moms cooking up a storm. Naya's been sleeping 3-4 stints so far, but she's only a week old so those long nights are on their way!

for cracked nipples, or maybe to prevent them, the nurse told me to put breast milk on it. as a matter of fact, I also heard that for diaper rashes.

I still havent left the house alone with baby as I feel like im still trying to aedjust to things. If we go out, we all go out, which is fine. But I wanna do my own thing. So i'm gonna give that a shot tomorrow!

Hope everyone is healthy and happy!

Beau has been a super cranky baby from the get go (adorable but cranky), and not gaining weight properly, another thing is that while pooping she SOUNDS like its going to be a blow out diaper but then when you change her its barely nothing (except the random average sized poop). I'd taken her to the Dr to ask about bowel disease because she was presenting just like my older child did at that age but I was told it was colic. One night I went to change her before bed and her belly was HUGE, looked like she swallowed a ball. I assumed it was gas so I spent the night rubbing her belly, burping her and putting warm compresses on her belly. Finally after soaking her in a warm bath she had a big poop and her belly deflated a bit. The next day I made a Dr apt and when I showed them the pic of her belly from the night before they sent us straight to the ER.

By some sheer coinsidence my sons pediatrician was the Dr on rotation that night and knowing the family history didnt waste any time exploring things. We go tomorrow to get the results of the biopsy and either confirm their suspicions or make a plan to continue figuring out whats going on.

When we do the bowel irrigations (every 6 hours) she passes a lot of stool but just cant seem to do it on her own, clearly something is going on its just a matter of figuring out what it is exactly.

When will u get the results cassandra?

I hope its nothing serious. Keep us posted.

Naya so far has been pretty ok. Im still quite confused about the breastfeeding thing. I sometimes panic when i think she isnt eating enough and give her formula. I gave her a bottle for the first time the other day and cried my eyes out :( She's just so small...But i remind myself that as long as the baby is feeding, thats all that matters: breastmilk or formula, doesn't matter.

Hope you guys are all doing well

Hello mamas!!! I'm so happy for everyone. Margaret-Anne is 5 weeks old and I've been MIA because she is so precious, I never get to my iPad to keep up. I do however follow some of you on Instagram on my cell and I love seeing your pictures!!! I have my follow up with my dr on the 16th. I have been doing 20 minutes of cardio the last 2 weeks and feeling great. I think I'm completely healed. Breastfeeding well, Maggie was 9lbs at her last apt. (6 11 at birth). The only thing that worries me is she makes a weird noise from her vocals... Hard to explain, it's almost like a gasp.... The pediatricion said its just a floppy esophagus and its normal.

I think everyone in our group has now given birth...with only one little guy??

Cassandra I hope they figure out the cause of Beau not being able to pass her bowels on her own soon!!

Yellow knife...it's amazing how our bodies produce the right amount for our little ones. My girl was 6lbs 11oz at birth, we went home at 6lbs 4oz. My husband kept telling me to supplement with formula but I wouldn't and she's been fine. Feed on demand even if that means your on the couch all day long topless. :) but you're right...either way Naya will grow!

Hey ladies,
We got the results and it's not hirschsprung disease. They suspect it's food allergies/colitis but because of her age she isn't old enough for the eocinophils to have accumulated yet to register on the biopsy. We are now irrigating x2 per day in hopes that she'll poop on her own in between but she doesn't.
We are managing ok though.
As far as recovery goes I've been given the all clear from the OB but I'm so not motivated. I have no desire to exercise or have sex... im thinking I'm just going to have to force myself to get back in the swing of things. Mostly I'm just starving all the time and thinking about food lol

Cassandra: that sounds so hard :( How are you dealing? How is she doing now?

How is everyone else doing?

My parents just left after 10 days. It was nice to have them here but also nice to have the house to ourselves again. My mom in law gets here in a few days and stays for three weeks (HELP!) so that will be something.

My urethra bruising is much better now and my lady bits are slowly feeling better. My pubic symphisis came back with a vengeance for about a week but it seems to be getting better now.

I'm really looking forward to a routine. Naya is a little less than three weeks and I feel like I've been doing this newborn thing for ages! hahaha. But i really can't complain; so far she's been pretty good and not causing me too many sleepless nights.

tried to add a pic of her to this, but not sure how to do it. Oh well :)

Hope you guys are all doing good!1

I am so thankful for this community to share our experiences: good and bad.

Cassandra, that sounds so hard. You sound so strong. I hope that Beau is improving.

Yellowknife, I can't imagine my mother in law for that long!

AFM I've had an awful recovery. I've been in agony. I developed "granulation tissue" on my stitches on my tear on my perineum. It hurts so badly to sit down, which of course is what I have to do all day and all night to breastfeed. Every day I just hope tomorrow will be better. My doctor won't cauterize with silver nitrate until 8 weeks. My appointment is Thursday  but I don't know if he'll assess then or do it then. I'm scared as I read that hurts like hell and most of the time grows back but I'm pretty desperate at this point. The one woman I met that had it had to have surgery so I'm hoping I don't. I had to miss family day weekend at the cottage, my own baby shower and my hubby's birthday dinner and cancel all visits with friends for the last 7 weeks. I just want to be pain free so I can enjoy my little man. He's growing so fast.

I am SO thankful though that it's me and not Finn that's having pain and complications. He's thriving and already in 3 month clothes! Both of us have a cold right now so I'm hoping we can fight it. My family Dr said it's good that we both have it so he can get antibodies from me through breast milk to fight it.

Sending you all lots of good vibes.

Anyone have any favourite baby products??? I'm in love with Burt's Bees Baby Shampoo. Smells amazing.

Do you guys use diaper cream? Finn got a diaper rash so we've been using zincofax. It's working great but I'm curious if anyone has one they like better.

Sorry to hear your recovery has been so painful! Boudreau's butt paste is the bomb for clearing up any diaper rash issues that are starting. I use Vaseline regularly and that stuff if she seems to be getting red. It's at Walmart and on amazon, not sure where else. Good luck!

Justrelax that sounds horrible, I'm really sorry that things aren't physically as they should be, it would be impossible for it to not be playing hell with your emotions too.

My doc said that breast milk was awesome for rashes but Beau hasn't had one so I dont know if thats accurate or not.

Our GI doctor had pathology recheck the biopsy manually instead of relying on the machine and in fact there were eosinophils seen. They ideally want to see under 6  cells and on Beaus slide they counted 30 so now we know that it is indeed colitis related to allergies (like her big brother). I've eliminated dairy and soy so hopefully that helps her. She still isnt pooping on her own yet, if she isnt by our next appointment in a month then they will have to do some more testing.

I'm still bleeding (dont know if thats normal or not) the nurse is going to call me back about it.

Beau now weighs 11 pounds 1 once so her weight is bouncing back nicely.

Hey! Nice to see some action in here :)

I know that we are all so busy now. We are doing well. My chunk has bounced from the 15th% to the 71st% on the growth chart (she likes food just like her mama) and this week she FINALLY started pooping on her own.

I am now a donor for the human milk bank which I think is awesome considering I didnt think I would even be able to feed her nevermind nicu babies as well. We are starting our renovations next weekend and I am hoping that there are no surprises because our emergency funds (aka income tax return) is being held up for review so instead of taking 8 days it looks like it will be closer to 6 weeks - sucks but nothing I can do about it.

Are any of your babies starting to play strange with people yet? Beau is now crying when selective people talk to her. I only wish that it was socially acceptable for me to bust out crying when people that I didnt like spoke to me lol

Hello All,

I'm so glad to see that all of your babies are doing well. :)

I'm so sorry I've been AWOL for a while. My baby has colic and reflux.  It's been tough as she cries a lot and won't sleep on her back in her crib so we have to stay awake and hold her while she sleeps night and day  We are seeing a pediatrician about it on Friday. I really think we need to get her sleeping in the crib. Anyone have any experience with this?

Hey ladies!
Just thought about checking in and then I see others were thinking the same thing!

Things are going relatively well here. Ckat my LO had reflux too and is just starting to sleep on her back or side for a short amount of time now that she's beeen on Zantac for a few weeks. She still very much prefers to be in my arms. I can rarely leave her on the couch or in a swing or anything without her losing it after a few minutes. Our plan was she be in her playpen to sleep but she screams as soon as she's in it and I just can't bring myself to do the whole Cry It Out method. I'll work at it slowly for now. I know it's terrible, but she sleeps straddling my side with her head on my boob. I get good sleep because I can feel whenever she moves and she'll sleep 4-5 hour stretches. I've started shifting her to the bed once she's really sleepy and propping her against my arm and letting her sleep on her side and I've gotten two hour stretches that way for two nights. I'm going to order a dock a tot and hope that helps. I've heard really good reviews but the cost of them is a tough pill to swallow! At least I know I can sell it if it doesn't work.

Otherwise she is a pretty happy baby. She loves standing up while being held and gets so proud of herself with a huge smile. She LOVES having her diaper changed lol and often times if she's crying for whatever reason, if you lay her down for a butt change she gets this huge smile. It's so funny. She doesn't make strange at other people yet but she also doesn't get out to see many people. I'm all worried she's going to catch a sickness so I kinda avoid people for now. She has had a couple days though where she was really fussy and I'd give her to hubby and she'd cry and cry until I took her back. He was pretty upset about that but I tried to assure him shes just having an off day.
About half the time were in the car, she starts to have a screaming fit which is really upsetting but not much I can do about that.

It sure has been an emotional rollercoaster, this motherhood thing! I'm starting to figure it out though I think.

Cassandra I'm glad your babe has been gaining so well! Awesome rebound! Izzy is a fairly little baby, but still gaining right along the 50th line on the charts, but she's just small. She just hit 10lbs on Monday, at 9 weeks, and she was born at 7lbs 7oz. Her older sister (from hubby's previous marriage, she's in her 20s) is only probably 5'4" or 5'5" and so it's in her genes to be on the short side so I'm not getting too worried about it!

Ckat, I've also been told you could raise one side of the crib mattress to make her on a bit of an incline and that should help with the reflux. Putting towels or books under it to lift it. Whenever I have my girl on the couch on her back, I always prop her on a pillow. She hates being flat on her back.

IVF Rookie, Ive thought about sleeping with her on me but am afraid of safety issues. Right now I just stay awake the whole time but am really starting to feel sick from lack of sleep. Can you explain a bit more about this? What position do you and she sleep in together in the bed?

I looked up that dock a tot you mentioned. Is it something that can be used on the bed?

MY daughter is taking prevacid for reflux and the dose was just increased so we will see what happens.

I'm starting to worry about my mile supply as when I pump I don't get much. Anyone else with this issue?

:)

Bree sleeps on me as well :/
We're were sleeping well like that but she's quite tall and its starting to affect her comfort (& subsequently mine lol).
We got a dockatot almost 2 weeks ago and she quite enjoys it. She is starting to sleep in it for a hour or 2 here and there if she's deeply enough asleep when I put her in it. But she's more content in it awake then she was in the other cosleeping thing we had. It's also easy to travel with which is handy as I'm currently spending almost a month travelling around the province visiting friends and family lol.

Does she lie on your chest while you are on your back? How do you prevent yourself from rolling over?

How far away do you place the dockatot?

Yup she's stomach down on my chest. I don't really have an urge to roll over when I'm sleeping like that. Only when I'm awake lol.
The dockatot is essentially at the end of my pillow. I have a queen size bed and its just her and I. The sides of the dockatot are comfortable enough that I've almost fallen asleep using it as a pillow while trying to convince bree to sleep in it lol
