Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has fibroids/polyps and been successful with IUI or IVF?

I had polyps removed but went through IVF with a small fibroid and was successful my second try. I believe it mostly depends on location and size of them. Fibroids tend to grow during pregnancy as well. Mine more than doubled in size. Best of luck to you!

As Amp said, fibroids can be an issue depending on size and location. I had a huge (12+cm) fibroid sitting on top my cervix (plus some smaller ones) and was only able to have a viable pregnancy once they were removed.

TTC since I was 28; Started fertility treatments at 35.

Dx: Male factor, Hashimotos, fibroids

April 2011-13 eggs retrieved: all dead except 1 immature egg that was ICSI'd; no embryos to transfer

Switched from Calgary RFP to VFC

IVF#2: November 2012, donor egg cycle- chemical pregnancy

FET#1: Feb 2013- m/c @ 6 weeks

Sept 2013: Abdominal myomectomy done. Giant fibroids removed with my uterus intact! I love Dr. Allaire!

January 2014: Surrogacy- FET cycle, BFN.

FET#2: May 2014-BFP

May 26 beta=335,  May 28 beta=812, May 30 beta=2004

I agree with the others. I had one fibroid (5cm) and got pregnant through IVF. I was told the location of the fibroid was no danger for the baby. Unfortunately I m/c at 12weeks - of course I don't know if the fibroid was the reason after all or not.

Switched clinics and got prescribed fibristal for 3 months to shrink the fibroid (down to 3cm). Got pregnant with my 2nd IUI and am currently in my 30th week of pregnancy.

I have a 6cm fibroid right at the fundus between the tubes. I'm on Fibristal for the next 3 months to shrink it before IVF. Once you stop the Fibristal how quickly does your period come back so you can start treatment?

I have what was a 10cm fibroid also at the fundus, but in between the muscle layers of my uterus so it's not really distorting anything - it's since grown on all the estrogen I've been taking as part of my protocols.  I was supposed to have surgery to have it removed but we did one more transfer - and I'm 9 weeks pregnant today.  I'd had two failed transfers (chemicals) before and there was no way to rule out whether it was the fibroid causing implantation issues so my doctor said one more try and then surgery.

It really does depend on where they are (sticking out into your uterus?), how many, and how big.  But it is absolutely possible to get pregnant with them.

Me: 32 33 Wife: 28 29

The problem - two girls can't make a baby without some help

But also - Fibroids, "polycystic like" ovaries, unpredictable ovulation, and a possible uterine septum

11/14 - IUI #1 - BFN

12/14 - no cycle as clinic closed over holiday

1/15 - cancelled, no dominant follicles - looks like I have an ovulation problem

2/15 - IUI #2 - 50mg Clomid - BFN

3/15 - 100mg Clomid - cancelled, missed my ovulation

4/15 - IUI #3 - 100mg Clomid - BFN

5/15 - Will need to start injectables as not responding well to Clomid, decide to switch to IVF, last three vials of donor sperm shipped from Toronto

6/15 - Stimming for ER

7/15 - 20 eggs retrieved, 19 fertilized, 15 embryos at day 3, 8 frozen at day 5

8/15 - MRI scheduled - no septum! No surgery.  Just a whopper of a fibroid, 9.5cmx8.5cm

9/15/15 - FET #1 one day 5 hatching blast

9/28/15 - Beta of 9 - chemical pregnancy

10/27/15 - FET #2 one day 5 hatching (maybe?) blast

11/09/15 - Beta of 18 - not looking good for 13dp5dt

11/13/15 - Beta 3 - second chemical pregnancy

3/04/16 - FET #3 one perfect grade 20 hatching day 5 blast

3/14/16 - Beta 130

3/1616 - Beta 320

3/18/16 - Beta 646

4/05/16 - Ultrasound 7w2d heartbeat of 136

4/26/16 - Ultrasound 10w2d heartbeat of 178, EDD Nov. 21

I actually did have 2 bleeds while being on fibristal. The 2nd started one day before my last pill (and it was not just spotting). After stopping the medication, AF started 3.5 weeks later

Its been just over a month for me and no period in sight. Which is nice. Next fibroid measurement scan is in a month. Totally terrified that it will not have shrunk at all. My RE is pretty adamant that shrinking it will take pressure off of my tubes and I can get pregnant naturally but Im pretty adamant that I havent had that size fibroid in the 5 years we have been trying so Im not holding my breath for natural. Just ready to get another IVF rolling with hopefully better results.    Was you RE pretty happy with the change in size for you or did he expect a bigger decrease?

I've done 3 months of Fibristal in combo with monthly lupron shots. Only light spotting when I first started the drug combo but no period during those 3 months. For me, It took 2.5 months for period to restart.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. I have now been told that I have too many (small) fibroids in too many places so I am unable to get pregnant :(

I'm so sorry :(  Can they be removed?  I read a book called, Womancode, that claims that people have actually gotten rid of fibroids through diet.  It may be worth checking out.

There was a girl on this site (sunshine??) who managed to shrink her fibroids by diet and supplements/herbs. Maybe you can track her down to ask questions? My heart goes out to you.

Thanks for your suggestions amp77 and mountainchick and sorry for my very late reply! It has been a bit if a crazy year but I have now had the largest fibroids removed through an abdominal myoemectomy which has helped with the bleeding so far. Now waiting for a hysteroscopy to get out as many of the little ones as possible and hopefully it will then finally be ready for a baby!
