There has been some very good feedback about the lack of an active 2016 Donor Buddies thread in our Donor & Surrogacy Cycle Buddies section.  Thought we should get one started for anyone who is contemplating a donor cycle, researching their next steps, looking for feedback/support or someone to share the donor cycle journey.  Best of luck to everyone!

 I would like to join!

We asked my cousin to donate - haven't heard back, but since it has been 2.5 months and she is "sending me a letter with her response", I know it's a no.

In the meantime, I have a lovely friend who offered to donate for us, who I think we will end up using. I am incredibly grateful for her offer, and quite excited by the prospect. It means we will have to set up at a new clinic (which isn't opening until June) and wait until she is done breastfeeding, but the future is looking bright thumbup.gif

I have been matched with a donor at miracleswaiting. My donor has signed all the necessary papers and the embryos are ready to be shipped. I'm currently waiting for my clinic to contact their clinic to get all the paperwork they need in order to receive my embryos. I'm in complete disbelief and very happy. I have to get used to saying "my embryos"....   babygirl.gif babygirl.gif babygirl.gif babygirl.gif

Me: 45, DH, 57, TTC first child for both of us since April 2009

September 2010 – Parlodel, BFP, m/c 5w

January 2011 referred to the Hannam centre (Toronto), all tests were great: Dx: Unexplained. After a few days they called me to say they forgot to tell me I had a polyp (about 1mm) and I needed a hysteroscopy. My own doctor in Mexico City said I was perfect and the polyp was too small to matter.

August, 2013 – Omifin + IUI#1 (Mexico City) with sex selection (after all, everything was supposed to be perfect, and we both would prefer a girl if possible...), BFN

July, 2014 – Omifin + IUI#2 (Mexico City, no sex selection, this time I had an injection to trigger ovulation 36 hrs before IUI) BFP, 7w U/S slow heartbeat, 8w U/S no heartbeat, m/c 9w

April 6, 2015 – Omifin + IUI#3 (Xalapa, Veracruz) had the injection to trigger (also 36 hrs before IUI) but the day of the IUI it turned out that the sample had a low sperm count (2 million - maybe because we BD'd 36 hrs before IUI?), BFN

I became 44 on the 8th of July.

July 27, 2015 - Letrozole + injectables + trigger (12 hrs before IUI) IUI#4 (Hamilton, Ontario) I had 5 good follicles and hubby's sperm count was 18.5 million post wash. BFN!!!

August 22, 2015 - Letrozole + (a lot less) injections + trigger (Hamilton, Ontario) IUI#5. I had ONE (bigger) follicle and hubby's sperm count was 27 million post wash. BFN cry.gif

September 2015 - I put profiles on NRFA and MiraclesWaiting to find a match for an open embryo donation.

December 2015 - An embryo donor contacted me out of the blue through MiraclesWaiting!

January 2016 - Sonohysterogram and hysteroscopy at my new clinic in Toronto.

February 2016 - All consent forms have been signed for the open embryo donation.

April 6, 2016 - Our four embryos were delivered Emoticons09793.gif

May 25, 2016 - FET #1; June 5 beta #1 = 6; June 7 beta #2 = 2 (stopped meds, went back to the clinic on day 2 of my period, started FET#2 straight way!)

June 27, 2016 - FET #2 = th_abfp.gif =  hCG @11dp5dt = 233; hCG @15dp5dt = 4222; hCG @18dp5dt = 7222; hCG @ 23dp5dt = 17000

July 8th, 2016 - I became 45 years old.

July 26th, 2016 -  first ultrasound, heart rate 118, measuring 6.4 weeks (@6.6 weeks)

August 2, 2016 - 2nd u/s - hr 154, measuring 7.5 w (@7.6w) Clot found. Rest prescribed.

August 9, 2016 - 3rd u/s - hr 179, measuring 8.2w (@8.6w) Clot still there.

August 16, 2016 - 4th u/s - hr 174, due date changed to March 16, clot same size as two weeks before so back to regular activity.

September 8, 2016 - NT scan. Doctor said everything was fantastic.... [nausea and headache killing me...].

October 3, 2016 - hr 144, midwife changed due date to March 20!!!! dontknow.gif [feeling better...]

after many years Of struggle and bottleneck of not being able to conceive after many attempts, doctor suggested egg donor option and we are going ahead with this as we were also hopeless after trying with the same option every time resulting in failure.I hope it works for us
we can only keep trying and pray

Looking forward to other people and hope , inspiration, motivation from their stories 😊

The process is not yet fi9nished.

So far it is 1,250 USD for shipping from Chicago to Toronto.

500 CAD for the receiving clinic to receive the embryos

100 USD for the clinic of origin to release the embryos

plus whatever I pay for the legal agreement (I'll let you know!)

Then, of course, the cost of the FET...

Hi everyone,
I'm new to this forum. I see such good information here and lots of happy endings, so I thought I would join. I've had 2 unsuccessful IVFs with my own eggs at age 40. I produce lots of eggs, but genetic testing showed poor quality on all embryos created. I am not so inclined to try again. I want to put my money on the best odds, so DH and I considering donor.

I'd like to hear from as many of you who can share about the process of finding a donor. I want to find someone who is non-anonymous, or at least will consent to being contacted later in child's life. I am thinking about going through an agency in U.S for the reason that the selection seems greater. I would prefer to do fresh transfer, so that means U.S. Fertility clinic too (thinking of CCRM in Denver because of their high success rates). The whole process looks like it will cost close to $60k once currency conversion kicks in. We are not looking to do this on the cheap, but $60k is very daunting, especially since it might not work!

Has anyone used an American agency to find their donor? If not, what was your process? I am really new to this so any information would be super helpful. What about Canadian donors? Did people go through an agency for this? What were waiting times like?

Thanks to all who respond!

Hi Redbird!

Good luck to you as to contemplate and research the donor process. You might want to have a review of this thread...I know it's really long but there's good info in there. http://ivf.ca/forums...or-eggsembryos/

A number of our members have gone to SDFC, Advanced Fertility in Chicago and ORM as well. Some ladies fin open donor relationships on this site. Some go through a Cdn agency. It's not an easy place to be in and there can be many issues to be mindful of. Hoping you find lots of support here!

We've tried lots of things for a long time. None of them have resulted in a viable pregnancy.

Redbird,

Welcome!  I went to Europe for a DE cycle where it's much more affordable, but all cycles are anonymous by law in Europe unless you go to the UK.

I've done a lot of research on egg donation in North America.  Please feel free to message me for more info, but here's a summary.

Canada:  You can find a known egg donor in Canada, and ask her if she's willing to be contacted by any offspring.  Some donors would look forward to pictures and would be happy to have a relationship.  Others are more cautious about it.  And still others aren't interested, so it all depends on the person.

You can find someone on the internet, such as through this site, or you can go through Canadian agencies -- Egg Helpers or Little Miracles.  If you go through Egg Helpers you can ask to be connected to a donor who would be open to contact.  Create, VFC, and some other clinics in the Toronto area will work with these Canadian agencies.  Create also works with 2 American agencies.

A bunch of Canadian clinics will also work with US egg banks, but those cycles are all anonymous.

If you go to the USA, due to exchange rates it's very expensive.  But there are countless agencies and clinics you can work with.  I've heard Genesis is a good agency (California) and you can ask if you aren't finding someone who works for you.  I'd think they'd work with you to find someone who is open ID or open to on-going contact.   I've got some other names of agencies that have good reputations, but can't remember them off the top of my head.  Please message if interested.

There are a slew of excellent clinics to choose from in the US, and SART gives the success rates on-line if interested.  Aside from others mentioned above, The Fertility Center of Las Vegas is very good & they work with in house donors and well-regarded egg donation agencies -- some of whom are in California.  Las Vegas has the ability to do the preliminary part of the cycle in L.A., and it's an easy flight out to Las Vegas.  It cuts down on travel costs if you can't find a local donor.  You can get a free skype consult to check them out.  I had a good impression of Dr. Said Daneshmand.    All FETs are free for the first year to encourage single embryo transfers.  I find that very ethical of the clinic.  Dr. D. has also been involved with conferences on ethical egg donation.

Pacific Northwest Infertility in Seattle is a good clinic, and easy to get to if you're on the west coast.

SDFC in California has in-house donors, which can help cut down on costs.  They also have a money-back guarantee.

Idaho Center for Reproductive Medicine has a variety of in-house donors.  You'd have to ask if they'd be open to contact.

Utah Center for Repoductive Medicine has in house donors and a money back guarantee.  Both Idaho and Utah are much less expensive then some place like CCRM.

Santa Monica Fertility has in-house donors and the ability to do a donor share, which halves the cost.  The clinic will freeze the other half for their egg bank, so you aren't waiting to find a second couple.  They've also got frozen eggs, and some donors are open i.d.

But if open ID is a deal breaker for you, going through an agency or finding someone on-line who is willing to be known is probably your best bet.   I know someone who went through Santa Monica, and the willingness to meet at least once with the adult child was written into the contract.  Of course, this sort of thing won't stand up in court -- you can't force someone to associate & some people just fall out of contact as the years go by.  But it can outline hopes for the future and help establish if people are on the same page.

I hope this helps, and good luck!!!

& I'm not sure if my last note was clear, but you can ask the agency you are working with to find you someone who is open ID or willing to meet your child.

Not all agencies have non-anonymous donors, but it's much more common for agencies to be able to find someone who is open-ID at 18 or open to contact.

Oops! The acronym DE can mean donor eggs or donor embryos... There are also great egg donor programs in Mexico but anonymous unless you find your own privately.

I haven't researched it, but there's one agency in Mexico that flies in donors from South Africa.  There are some donors from South Africa flying into Australia that have agreed to be known.  Might ask the agency working through Mexico if any of the donors would be willing to do a known or open ID egg donation.

The advantage of Mexico is much less expensive then USA, especially with the exchange rate.

Good luck!!!

Hi Ladies,

We are researching agencies for DE, we are looking at Little Miracles and My Fairy Godmother.  There is so much valuable information on this site.  I truly appreciate the willingness to share and provide information.

Hey everyone...
Since my Ivf failed and my eggs are not only low but of poor quality, I'm starting the process of looking into getting an egg donor and don't even know where to begin

Can anyone help?

Sophiemarie -

I guess here's a few things to consider. What is more important? Fresh eggs? Money? No travel? Known donor or anonymous?

If money is no issue you can look at US clinics. They are very expensive (30-40 k to start) but relatively easy to get to from Canada and generally are known donors. If you don't mind frozen and definitely want to stay at home, look into US services that offer frozen eggs that are shipped. Again this is pretty expensive (20-25 k to start) but again known donors. If you don't mind traveling and want to save some money and get a vacation in at the same time, look into overseas clinics. The big thing with overseas is that donors are anonymous. I used Zlin in Czech Republic. There's several good clinics there. Also Greece, Cyprus, and Spain too (though I know Spain is more expensive not sure of the others). De in Zlin was 4500 euros to start including donor fee, drugs and transfer. I paid an extra 1000 euros for embryo scope, embryo glue, intralipids, and my drugs. All in our cycle was about 12-13k including a two weeks awesome vacation. Staying in Zlin was ridiculously cheap too. It's good to note that screening in Czech Rep is very stringent! And most of their donors are not doing it to escape extreme and crippling poverty. From what I saw, and many others who've used the clinic, donors were well dressed, owned cell phones, and appeared to be firmly middle class. Zlin pulls mainly from the university students that attend Bata university in their town. So educated and able to pay for post secondary.

There are other places to travel to for de but I honestly wouldn't recommend them right now. I would not go south to Mexico or anywhere near there due to Zika. I would not go to the Ukraine due to ongoing political instability. That's my personal preference (but I understand people still go to these places).

Once you decide where you need to do all the testing. Pretty standard ivf stuff. Then decide what you are looking for in a donor. I wanted one who resembled me at least in basic terms. Then I wanted educated, at least a bachelors and preferably a masters. Then I wanted o negative blood since we decided we would not be telling people that we used de.

Quandry: I think I would follow the same route as u and go to Zlin

Either fresh or frozen would be fine, money isn't right but I don't want to go bankrupt either
Education is very important and I would want it to resemble me a little (since I could never have my own)

I wouldn't leave your email here. People phishing will spam the heck out of you.

As for info your best bet is to Google Zlin donor egg ivf. It'll take you to the clinics site and you can contact them through there!
