Just to follow-up on my vote. The first day after ET - I came home and napped for 6 hours. I was exhausted and very sore. I ended up trying to work the next day and lasted only a couple of hours. I work at a computer in my home so it was okay, I ended up on the couch for the rest of the day. I was given strick instructions from my accupuncturist - no computer on couch - as I used to just rest it on my knees - she said it was too close to my body. Day 3 - I rested the majority of the day. I ended up going for a 15-minute walk that night - I was a bit sore, but it was okay. By Day 4 - I resumed my regular work schedule but just took it easy when necessary and felt good to do other things like housework and go for longer walks. My Beta is today, so keeping my fingers crossed that everything works out.

Wow - I am so excited right now, and I also feel like I am going to be sick...is that excitement or baby-stuff? Anyhoo.

I read this thread dozens of times during my 2ww, and really want to share my bit. Here it is!

  • rested a lot. I didn't work, and my DH took care of the major house cleaning and grocery shopping. I know I didn't need to go to this extreme, but we just felt it was right for us!
  • ate lots of veggies and fruit.
  • prior to ET, I drank Red Rasberry Leaf Tea, and ate Pineapple (with the core) daily. I stopped both on ET day.
  • didn't ingest any caffeen.
  • drank lots of warm milk (maily when I was missing my coffee!!)
  • prayed a lot, and tried to prepare for it to go either way
  • avoided stress

But you know, I ended up with horrible cramping due to OHSS, and during that time, I would take lots of Tylenol (oops, maybe there is caffeen in there!) and I became less aware of the little ones growing inside. Before the cramps started, I thought I had to be constantly thinking of them and making sure my body was in a state of perfection. During the cramps, I was basically just trying to remain concious, and not constantly obsessing about protecting them. Don't get me wrong! I wouldn't have done anythign to harm them, but I found that even when I gave up some of the control, they were safe and sound.

I ate pop corn with butter and oreos.

Not sure if I had anything to do with what made them stick, though I am just so very thankful that they have.

I didn't do an IVF, but I did get a BFP for my second IUI yesterday, Nov. 28th. I had my IUI early morning and went home and straight to bed. Was in bed for all that day and the next day. After that I resumed life as usual. I had a bad cold so I took quite a bit of Tylenol and used Vicks Rub. I used a vaporizer for my congestion, during the entire 2WW.

Diagnosed with PCOS in 2003. Did 5 Clomid cycles with family DR. All BFN. Started on Metformin in early 2007, was only on it for 2-3 months before quitting. Made me too sick. Had ovarian drilling done February 2nd 2007. resulted in 7 months of regular periods for the first time in my life.
Referred to RE in August 2007.

November 28th:
First Beta 180
December 2nd: Second Beta 473
December 4th: Third Beta 1063
December 12th: Ultrasound. Singleton, saw the heart beat.
December 19th: First prenatal appointment. Doctor did another ultrasound to make sure progress and growth was right for 7 weeks. Heard the baby's heart beat for the very first time. Absolutely surreal! Kept asking Doctor is she was sure that wasn't my own heart beating.
January 28th: Second prenatal appointment. 13 weeks today! Thank God! Had another ultrasound, everything looks great, heartbeat is steady and strong.
July 6th 2009:35 weeks and 4 days pregnant. Almost there, thank God. Expecting my little boy the first week of August, God willing.

I did 2 IVFs and got a BFP on the second one. The day of ET, I slept for about 4 hours afterward and then drove 2 hours to go to a Bon Jovi concert! I was quite busy during that 2ww with work and life. I was sick from a drug called Dostinex they gave me because I was at very high risk for OHSS (estrogen was at 32,000 on trigger day). I had cramps pretty much the whole time.

From all my reading, I don't think there's much you can do in the 2ww to improve your chances. Some people go on bed rest, other continue a regular routine. One thing I do think helps is blood flow so I think it's important to keep moving to keep blood flowing to the pelvic area.

My clinic suggests going about your normal daily routine. They thought it was great that I was going to the Bon Jovi concert after ER. And hey, it worked. I figure if you behave the way you will when you're pregnant, you can't go wrong.

But in the end, you have to do what will bring the least regret if it doesn't work. If you will end up kicking yourself in the ass for vacuuming if you get a bfn, then don't vacuum. Your peace of mind is very important.

My friend ButterflyKiss provided this quote from Laura Bush's book and I think it captures how many of us feel:"The English language lacks the words to mourn an absence... for someone who was never there at all, we are wordless to capture that particular emptiness. For those who deeply want children and are denied them, those missing babies hover like silent, ephemeral shadows over their lives. Who can describe the feel of a tiny hand that is never held?"

Hi everyone, just chiming in, now that I'm in my 2ww! I am only a few days in, but so far I feel absoutely EXHAUSTED 24/7, but I seem to sleep much better during the day than at night. I start to think too much at night. lol.

I am having trouble concentrating on work (just trouble focusing in general - my head feels very cloudy all the time). I also feel crampy still, but I'm sure that's residual soreness from all the poking and prodding of the cycle.

I rested the first day, just did some work from home at the computer later in the day, then DH and I packed up the car the following morning and drove back home (we were cycling out of town <--- hey that makes me sound athletic!). So I reclined for 8 hours with some reading material about pregnancy and fetal development. Fascinating stuff!

Today I'm trying to work but having a very difficult time getting out from under the cobwebs in my brain, and I feel like I could fall asleep at the drop of a hat.

Right now as I type this, I'm procrastinating from said work. hahaha!

Ok, back to it, just wanted to share how it is for me so far... only 11 days to go. :th_aggahhh:

Lilypie Maternity tickers

Me: 37 y.o. DH: 44 y.o.
IVF #4: 3 prev. IVF's for donor cycles - this is the first one for me!
DH - vas. rev. unsuccessful

18 follicles cookin'!
ER went well... 10 'extra' follicles found! what the...?! 28 eggs retrieved :)
20 eggs mature and fertilized - only 3 made it to blast. Poor sp. quality :(

PUPO!!
BETA March 8 - no.

FET June 10, 2010: PUPO with two!!!!
June 22, first beta: 22.5 low, but still positive...
June 24, second beta: 44... wooo HOOO, it DOUBLED!!! Ridin' the happy wave! (I'll take it where I can!)
June 28, third beta: 29. Looks like a chemical. boo. :(

Getting my head and heart ready to start IUI with donor sp. in January.
Working on choosing a donor and getting back into the game!

As of Jan/11, donor chosen, starting first IUI cycle... called in Day 1 New Year's Eve.
Here's to new beginnings!

+OPK Jan 12, IUI Jan 13! 10 million chances. :)
Nope. AF arrived. On to IUI #2! Missed Feb surge, moving fwd with Clomid Feb/Mar cycle
Started Clomid Feb 20th.
PUPO Mar. 1 - possibly two mature eggs - both ovaries feel strongly like they ovulated... I'll take that as a good sign!
Doc was VERY happy with response to Clomid, but this cycle was a 'no'. Bah! On to the next!

IUI #3 w/clomid, June/11 : +opk June 11th (on day 14, late for me), IUI June 12th. Hoping longer cycle means more mature eggs and a better lining.
d/s numbers were amazing - 30 mil post-wash, 60% mot, grade 3. Nope. sigh. Next!

IUI #4 w clomid (3rd cycle w/clomid), August/11: Doc tells me that 'average' number of tries for success for women my age is 6. So it's still early days! whoop.
Aug 25th, IUI. 40 mil total, grade 3. Felt like good timing, if mittelschmirz is any indicator... crossing fingers!

FINALLY.. BFP!!! (+hpt, 12dpIUI) Beta 1 - 116, Beta 2 - 313 u/s in two weeks!

Sept 27/11: Saw one bean measuring 6.5 weeks, hr 109bpm... SO HAPPEEEEE!!!!!! :D

Dec 18/11: Anatomy scan... it's a BOY!!! :D Due date is May 18, 2012.

Baby Boy born a week early, May 10th, 2012. Such a long journey to get here - now the beginning of a whole new kind of journey. I feel so blessed. What an adorable little miracle!

I thought that we could see what everyone did during 2WW and maybe find some correlation as to what seems to help BFP and cause BFN. Some questions may bother people, but I do believe every question is relevant. As well I am wondering how many HPT'd but I couldn't fit it in. I also couldn't fit in if you had a BFP or BFN so if you could put that in as a post I would appreciate it.

Please answer the questions as truthfully as possible (even if you don't want to) and we just might find something out!

With Love to All,

I have a desk job so I have been able to go to work, but I am really tired and crampy mostly in the evenings. The 2 ww has been hard its all I can think about, I have no idea if I am pregnant or not....fingers crossed!

With Love to All,
Alicia

May I chime in? When I did my first ivf in 2007, I took the 2ww off until I got the beta back. I reelaxed and I even went to acupuncture many weeks prior to it. In fact I thought for sure i was pg, I swore up and down I was. But my beta came back at 7 or something. Then I did my d/e cycle last year, took the 2ww off and did bed rest for 5 days and I got a bfp:) I also did acupuncture on the day of transfer before and after transfer, ate pinapple and just slept as much as I needed. Funny, during the 2ww, I didn't crave pop but wanted lots of salads and veggies. I convinced myself that if it happens. great, if not, then we'll get ready for the fet in the new year, and... it happend lol and I was off both my jobs during the 2ww

I got a BFP on my first IVF/ICSI treatment. I did have accupunture treatments both directly before and after my embryo transfer (not sure if that helped).

During the 2ww I spent a lot of time on ivf.ca. I also went for some short walks and did no heavy lifting of house work (beyond putting dirty dishes in the dishwasher. It felt like such a long wait. Good luck to all of the ladies that are in the 2ww.

I went out for lunch and then to a few stores after my ET. I had acupuncture the day before ET and again 4 hours after ET. I went back to work the next day. Life went back to normal for me, I just made sure I didn't do anything overly physical.

I just realized I hadn't voted. I did take it very easy during the 2ww and tried my best to Relax (which is kinda impossible with the suspense). I only walked on the treadmill a few times for 20 minutes very slowly. Food wise I ate as usual.Towards the 2nd and 3rd day after ET , I had terrible stomach cramps and was sure I would be waking up in a pool of AF(I still have that feeling). My lower back hurt a lot as well.I have been doing acupuncture since 3 months before the ET which did help me relax.Hope this helps!

The first week of the 2ww wasn't too bad but I started to lose my mind a little when the second week rolled around. Finally at 12dp5dt I caved and POAS'd. We had a lot of personal/family stress during the 2ww so I didn't end up relaxing quite as much as I'd planned. Around 4dpt I had some major cramping and was sure that AF was on her way. I also had a lot of lower back pain.

I did some meditation and a lot of praying. I ate the same as I did before the transfer but added pineapple core to my smoothie as I've heard it helps with implantation. I did acupuncture and took herbs leading up to my cycle. I also did an acupuncture session during the 2ww.
Me: 40
Dx: DH: Vasectomy; need IVF/ICSI ME: D.O.R. and many immunological issues. (Initially presented as "normal" but issues were only discovered after IVF attempt #2 and #3 after testing at new clinic)
IVF attempt #1 Nov.2009, Age 37: Long "Lupron" protocol
Dec.2009: Cycle cancelled due to oversuppression
IVF attempt #2, Age 38: April 2010: 3 eggs retrieved, 2 mature, 2 fertilized, ET of 2 embryos BFN
IVF atempt #3 at new clinic: November 2010, Age 38: 5 eggs retrieved, 4 mature, 4 fertilized, ET of 2 blastocysts BFP
Strong beta numbers but babies not measuring on track but one heartbeat is present. Followup u/s reveals no HB's :( Had D&C--so sad.
Moved to new clinic closer to home + more of a focus on testing for potential immunological factors:
Further testing reveals three mutations related to inherited thrombophilia (2 MTHFR mutations and PA1-1 mutation), positive ANA, elevated NK cells and cytokines and low levels of leukocyte antibodies (LADS), Recommended Immunological treatment: Humira, LIT, IVig and blood thinners if PG
IVF Protocol: Low stim for me/ TESE needed for DH; took Humira in late August and early September; taking DHEA plus Co-Enzyme Q10, vitamins for DH just for good measure! September--two trips to Mexico for LIT treatment, treatments 3 weeks apart
Initial re-testing through Alan Beer Centre after some of the immune treatments reveals only cytokines were lowered, NKs still high and LAD numbers still low. Another LIT in Mexico is recommended. We decide to begin cycle on doctor's recommendation of just doing IVIG.
IVF#4, Age 39 : November 2011: Worst AFC EVER--a whopping 4! Three follicles responded, two eggs were retrieved. Three day transfer of two Grade 1 8 cell embryos: "Fahita" & "Burrito" Stick, stick, stick little ones!
BFP! Beta of 569
Viability u/s at 6 w 2d shows TWO babies measuring on track with heartbeats of 121. Looks like babies might be sharing the same amniotic sac.
Second u/s at 7w 2 d shows ONE baby with hb of 150, measuring 7 w 3 days. No sign of twin. Vanishing twin syndrome?
Third u/s at 8 w 2d shows ONE baby with hb of 170, measuring 8 w 3 days. Looks like a little jellybean!
12 week u/s at 12 w 2 days and baby is measuring 12 w 5 days with a heart beat of 150. Baby mooned us and waved at us with one hand....looked like a "royal" wave to me!
13 week doctor's appointment, HB=155 on doppler
14 week u/s to check cervix, HB=148
16 week u/s to check cervix, HB=138, baby had hiccups!
20 week u/s--everything looks good! HB=130, looks like we're having a GIRL!
IPS results very good!
39 weeks: Our baby girl arrived!!! She is healthy and beautiful! We are so happy! :)

I am still in shock after our first BFP after 5 years of unexplained unfertility!
I really like the questions listed on the survey, they were all pertinent to a healthy well nourished body, which really is the best thing you can offer the wee one right now...

We did our first cycle of IVF with ICSI in Jaunary, and here's what we followed:

Good Foods For Implantation:
walnuts
pineapple
yams
wheat grass juice
collard/leafy greens
eggs (totally cooked, like scrambled)
lots of water to flush out toxins and balance all the other weird hormones that we've added w/ drug intake of late!

Avoid raw garlic or any overly spicy herbs/spices
Avoid most essential oils esp. rubbed on to the skin...consider what the masseuse is using!
