From my last period up to ET, I drank Pure Organic Raspeberry Leaf Tea (2cups/day-4c/day), to tone and cleanse the uterus, makes the lining stronger and richer with vitamins...helps with implanting I think. But you must stop because it is known to cause uterine contractions, and could cause miscarriages if you are pregnant.

You have to steep it for a long time, you want it strong.

I also had the pineapple...eating the core...it has to be fresh pineapple too.

Always told my self this will work, kept the positive thinking.

Followed the dr's instructions, and tried to stick as close to a schedule as possible.

Never dieted, but tried to eat healthy. Cut out alcohol, and limited coffee. No hot baths/hot tubs...didn't want to cook the eggs either...if it can happen to sperm I thought it could happen to the eggs too.

Uhhhh, I'm pretty sure she meant your OWN eggs getting too hot in a sauna/hot tub (which is bad for male fertility), not that you should avoid eating cooked eggs.

HI Sam,
I'veseen that sign too by saunas. I think its due to the risks of your body overheating while PG. When I wasPG last year (for the short while before mym/c) I was reading alot of books and asking my doc about this as well as exercising while PG. Generally, I was told it was ok to exercise but not too get too overheated as it was not good. But with that m/c and subsequently not being able to get pg again, my acupuncturist has told me not to exercise too much. Gardening or light walks are ok.

Also, taking wheatgrass (2 shots/day 1.5ml each)
the usual folic acid, but I've been bumped up to 5mg/day

Question - which prenatal vitamin are people taking?? Currently I buy Centrum's Materna, but wonder if you have heard of a better brand??

Yeah, I take Materna as well as take 5mg folic acid. Ironicallymy drug plan covers the 5mg tablets of folic.

I get my wheatgrass online www.dynamicgreens.com. They are really good. Usually can deliver to our doorstep within 24 hours.

Acupuncturist says this is the best place according to her because they falsh freeze the wheatgrass thus it keeps most of the nutrients. They send your the supply and you keep it in your freezer.

I think this is part of his new protocol. He recently changed me to this about 6 months ago. When I see him next, I will ask for clarification. But i know its not due to my bloodwork (or at least he hasn't told me that was why)

But I will report back on Firday as that's when I see him.

Yeah what I meant was that if men are supposed to avoid sitting in hot baths or hot tubs...damages sperm quality. I figured that the same would apply to a women's body, esp when we are on the drugs to make mulitple eggs.

Wouldn't we be in a sense "cooking" our eggs, if we sat in hot water...just thinking, so I avoided them when I started stimulation.

Someone before mentioned to be careful of taking fresh wheat grass shots, because you can get listeria (I think) from it...a bacteria harmful to you. If it is processed and dried in capsule form it would probably be safer.

P.S...eating cooked eggs has alot of benefits for fertility, for both men and women.

Hi girls,

Just want to give my two cents about pre-natal vitamins:

Materna is recommended by most doctors but its not a very good brand to take. Its very heavy on the stomach and not all the vitamins/minerals are absorbed by the body. Better options include those pre-natal vitamins that you would find at a health food store. They're mainly veggie capsules that are easily digestable and almost 100% absorbed.

A good brand is SISU Pre-Natal Vitamins. I can take those on an empty stomach and they do not bother me at all. The best type (from what I've been told) are called New Chapter. They're expensive so I would take them once actually pregnant. The SISU is what I stick to for now.

I would avoid Materna, they made me super ill.

Try and see,
ro

Yes, I read somewhere here abut fresh wheatgrass. i take a flash frozen wheatgrass which i melt with non-chlorinated water. So hopefully this should avoid/kill bacteria. It was recommended by my acupuncturist as well. And I still have about 2 month supply in my freezer!!

Thanks Ro re: prenatal vitamins. Once I finish my bottle of materna, i'm definetely gonna switch over. Actually my doc also said that he heard Materna oftens makes women constipated.

Re: vitamins, my clinic provides a prescription for a prenatal high dose folic acid vitamin-mineral supplement called PregVit Folic Five (you have to take two pills at different times of the day to prevent the inhibition of the absorption of iron by the calcium). It took me awhile to get used to remembering to take both pills but it is worth it - they are not hard on the stomach and contain a whopping 5 mg of folic acid. Also, as it is a prescribed medication, it is covered by insurance which is a bonus!

Most prenatal vitamins do not contain the recommended amount of folic acid, so you should supplement your regular vitamin with folic acid. You should be getting at least 1mg of folic acid/day. Also, when I was shopping for prenatal vitamins I realized that they all had pretty much the same vitamin/mineral content, so I just went with the cheaper brand, I think it's the Safeway brand. Haven't been sick once, but my sister who took Materna could barely get hers down.

You should not avoid fish - they're a great source of protein and some contain valuable Omega-3 fatty acids. There are certain kinds you should avoid, such as mackeral, Albacore tuna, and shark - basically fish that eat other fish are bad. Fish such as salmon, sole, halibut, and canned chunk, "light" tuna are fine.

I think that resting as much as possible for a couple of days immediately after the ET is key.

If possible, start acupuncture before cycling and continue up until the transfer. I was lucky - my practitioner actually came to the clinic and did a treatment immediately before and after the transfer.

For men, zinc, selenium, and saw palmetto are other good supplements to take. There are a couple, L-carnitine and acetyl-carnitine that are hard to find in Canada (go to a health food store), but are supposed to help men as well. Again, try to start it before you start cycling, as it can take a few months for the supplements to work their magic.

This is my first cycle so I am no expert but this is what I did so far:
  • Ate lots of fresh fruit and bought mostly organic- I do not think pesticides can be washed completely. Things like bananas I did not worry about because you can peel them.
  • Drank lots of organic juice. My favorite is from Sobey's. Peach/Apple juice. It is more like a cocktail.
  • I ate a lot of things high in folic acid. I ate a lot of lentils, beans and salads.
  • I only ate chicken that was hormone free and grain fed.
  • I drank no milk and have boycotted soy because the estrogen found naturally in it is supposed to be bad for women with fibroids. So I drink either almond milk or brown rice milk.
  • I only drank decaffeinated tea.
  • I did eat chocolate. But the feel good hormones are positive for baby action I think.
  • I eliminated as much stress in my life as possible. I love my mom but she is stressful so I have avoided her somewhat.
  • I have eaten lots of tomatoes lately.

O.K. I read the green tea is good for mucous and since caffeine reduces fertility by 15% I get the decaf. The pineapple juice is supposed to help with healing and somehow aids in implantation. However, you stop drinking it after you get a BFP. The Robitussin thins out your mucous to help the sperm get through and to help you conceive. You only use the kind with the Guaifenesin in it, not the Dextromorphan. I read all of this on twoweekwait.com too. You may want to go there and see what you think. It seems to have helped a lot of women.

OKAY GUYS I JUST FOUND THIS AND COPIED IT SO ALL OF US CAN GET SOME INFO.

SAM, COULD YOU PLEASE ADD IT TO THE LIST OF DO'S?

ASHAMI.

1. from what I've read about the pineapple juice, you are supposed to take it AFTER you ovulate. Before ovulation it seems that grapefruit juice is the one to increase the mucus....that's what i picked up from the twoweekwait.com website anyway. I have a cupboard full of grapefruit juice...and pineapple juice ...and just struggled home with as many yams as i could carry (to increase progesterone...).

I also have the Chinese Herbalist on board now too, plus Robitussin.

2. Haven't got the green tea yet though....oh, and rtry to remember to drink plenty of water....I always forget. I put alarms on my cell phone to remind me.

OK, according to an article on babyhopes.com, 1st make sure the only active ingredient is guaifenesin and then start 5 days before ovulation through the day you ovulate and take 2 teaspoons 3 x per day. I read other conflicting things like one site said 2 Tablespoons daily, I like the 2 teaspoons over the day better as it seems it would be working consistently. Also, they mentioned sperm being strongest in the morning....Go for some morning fun too!

THOUGHT I WILL SHARE THIS TOO........

PLEASE CONSULT YOUR DR IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS

do's
POSITIVE ATTITUDE
-prenatal vit :pill:
-zinc,selenium ,saw palmetto,folic acid(for men)
-timing of meds, stick to the schedule
-gatorade (for after ER)
-pineapple core (helps implantation)
-accupuncture
-yoga
-massage
-wheat grass (2 shots/day,1.5ml each)(beaware resh might have bacteria ,so get dry capsule from naturopath /accupuncture places)
-light exercise (gardening,walk)
-pure Organic Raspeberry Leaf Tea (2cups/day-4c/day), tone and cleanse the uterus, makes the lining stronger and richer with vitamins.helps with implanting ,must stop after ET because it is known to cause uterine contractions, and could cause miscarriages if you are pregnant.
-eat healthy
-follow dr's instructions
-5 mg folic acid
-green tea is good for mucous and since caffeine reduces fertility by 15% I get the decaf.
