I have 54% DFI; taking vitamins, pycnogenol, and scheduled appointment with andrologist. I believe I have it because of overexercising during a year + aging; I believe I can improve it in few months.

2014.01.01: TTC started

2015.11.01: FertilAid, MegaMen Sport, Royal Bee Jelly, L-Arginine, C, E, Zinc, CoQ-10, Folic Acid, Pycnogenol, and more

2015.12.01: I found that I need 10x more folic acid than women: 5mg a day. Correction also made for C and E intakes.

2016.01.14: DFI 54%, Morphology 2%. Dull pain in left testicle (usually at night).

2016.02.05: Pycnogenol - I bought it in bulk, taking 1/2 teaspoon in the morning.

2016.02.10: Folate (5-MTHF) vs. Folic Acid. Why doctors keep silence about that?

2016.03.19: first IUI, and pregnancy! Thanks to Dr. Paul Rob from Hannam Fertility

2016.05.xx DFI 52% ? Why it didn't improve after 5 months? But a lot of swimmers, almost doubled!

2016.11.xx: I am father of beautiful daughter!!!!!!!!!

Hi Baobab,

Can you tell me where you bought your pycnogenol? We'd like to improve my husband's DFI if possible.

I bought this one, "BulkSupplements Pure Pine Bark Extract Powder", powder in a bulk; 10x cheaper than pills; I don't have any problem with 1/3 teaspoon of it mixed in 500ml water in the morning. With 1 teaspoon - headache.

I bought at Amazon com, delivered to Canada.

1/3 teaspoon is probably 600mg; I have special scale, I'll measure it.

Today in a GYM I was feeling really powerful, I think it is all together: keto-adaptation (no-carbs), vitamin E etc.

Vitamin E: reading book on it now; gamma tocopherol neutralizes NO products, very interesting.

1/3 teaspoon could be 1gramm (10 regular pills); most 'advisors' suggest 1mg per Lbs of body weight - so that I am taking at least 4x more (800mg+). So far so good.

UPDATE:

We are on 15th week now. First IUI and success; but pregnancy started 2-3 days after IUI according to many ultrasounds. BTW we had IUI in the morning, and intercourse the same day night smile.png and two days later too.

Few weeks ago I tested for DFI, it was 52%. Doctor Kirk Lo said this doesn't mean infertility at all because of high (twice above average for my 50+ age) amount of swimmers. And during IUI another doctor mentioned that they separated 10 millions good sperm. They were right!!!

I was taking enormous amounts of vitamin E and C, and a lot of other supplements; and I believe most important is fish oil and all other types of Omega-3 oils (coconut, olive).

piggypower, my DH's fragmentation is also high, so doctor has him on Fertil Pro + L-carnitine (here is the link: http://www.yadtech.c...-l-carnitine/).He's supposed to take it for 6 weeks and then redo the DNA fragmentation test. We'll see...

Two IVFs and no chromosomally normal blasts to transfer...we are done with my eggs.

L-Carnitine powers mitochondria (participates in fat exchange at micro-molecular level), which is main energy producing machine for spermatozoa (and not only for that: for heart, and for health in general)

I read one research (you can google it) from Australia: doctor asked patients to masturbate each day, and after two weeks DFI significantly decreased (although amount of swimmers was lower); I believe because of some "bad" juices (with free radicals) were constantly refreshed & regenerated.

Vitamin C neutralizes free radicals, together with vitamin E;

We are on 7th month now; I have 50%+ DFI.

DH's DNA fragmentation went from 37 to 8% with the vitamin I mentioned. The improvement is so much more than we ever hoped for.

My DFI was 54%, and after few months of all these vitamins it was 52% (and I believe because I was drinking 5 days before DFI test)

Anyway, I was at zero alcohol consumption since mid-January-2015; and we had IUI (sperm wash + internal insemination) in March, and we have beautiful daughter now, 7 weeks old!

Don't trust too much DFI numbers...

My wife was prescribed intra-vaginal hormonal pills after IUI, you never know where the problem was; I even suspect we had to "mix it better!" (10 minutes more movements after ejaculation)

And most important: have a desire, believe in yourself!

A high DFI does not mean that you cannot have a baby it just reduces the chances. I am happy for your baby but you were lucky. One night of drinking does not destroy sperm that way BTW. It's the long term exposure to alcohol.

If desire and belief would work we would all have babies.
