Hi everybody. DH and I are 32 and 30 living on the prairies in a small city. I'm a Social Worker and DH works in the oil and gas industry. We've had to drive 3+ hours to get to our nearest clinic where we've undergone 2 IUIs and 2 IVF cycles - all failures. After the 2nd IVF, when all of our beautiful 21 embryos deteriorated after day 3, they determined that they think it's an cellular/DNA egg issue. I've done acupuncture, TCM, reiki, Body Talk, Hypnosis, counselling, and modified my diet, supplements, lifestyle, etc. but we're still 5 years in with empty arms. So after much soul searching, we are pursuing donated eggs. Obviously, like many of you, we're already tens of thousands of dollars into this journey and are coming up to the end of our rope if this doesn't work. This is made more complicated by Canada's restrictions on assisted reproduction. We seriously considered going to the Czech Republic or Cyprus, but it just doesn't sit well with us to deny our child the opportunity to ever know the identity of their donor, if they wanted to pursue this (absolutely no judgement of those who choose this route - to each their own).

I hope these forums can be helpful to us along the way. Thanks for reading!

Me: 30  DH: 32 - TTC 5+ years

Two failed IUIs in 2012/13

  • IVF#1 - 2013  super-O conversion from IUI because I over-responded. Retrieved 5 eggs, 5 fertilized, transferred 1 embryo - others deteriorated before freezing. BFN.
  • IVF#2 - 2014 I over-responded again. Retrieved 27 eggs (absolutely excruciating retrieval), 21 fertilized. All looked amazing. But by day 5, they had started to deteriorate inexplicably. Transferred 1 beautiful blast... but everything else fell apart and we had nothing to freeze. BFN.

After extensive testing, specialists believe that my eggs have an unexplained genetic/cellular issue.

August 2015 - reserved an egg donor through LM and pursuing ED at VFC in Fall 2015!!!!

November 2015 - ED ER Nov 11 gave us 40 eggs! Nov 13 - 20 still look good graded 16-20. Nov 14 - 14 of freezable quality.

NOV 16 - Transfer Day! Transferred one gorgeous Grade 19 blast with six beauties in the freezer.

6dp5dt - th_abfn.gif  Feeling like all hope is lost (even though it's early) and hesitant to even bother testing again.

9dp5dt - th_abfp.gif We're on top of the world!!!!!

Hi jzyla,

Firstly, I just wanted to say hi and assure you that you are certainly not alone on this journey. Your story sounds very familiar to what we have been through. I have just begun re-connecting with the forum and I know that you will find much support and friendship here as I have.

I (we) have been through the domestic egg donor process, so if you have any questions at all please message me.

All the best to you,

l_belle

I decided to use an  anonymous egg donor from Mexico and my partner's sperm. Now she is 6 weeks old and unless I check this forum, I barely think about it. She is mine and I chuckle as people constantly tell me how much she looks like me. All about our own philosophy and how we see the world. My little one will know that there was a cell which came from another woman, but there is not much more to it. She grew inside of me, heard my voice and became part of who I am. We are so connected and I can only tell you that I never cared much about my own gene pool. Reality is that my genes are not that special and I believe that what we do, how we nurture and what we share greatly influences our children. That blue print, the genetics, are somewhat important, but even if we use our own eggs, there is no guarantee that our little ones would not inherit traits from some relative with not so favorable traits. So for me it is a bit of a gamble, using our own eggs or the egg of another woman. My little one is amazing and loved by me. I have another daughter, genetically

mine, now 25, and can assure you that I love both of my girls equally.

I have been considering donor eggs for years, just haven't had the money to do it yet… I work with pregnant women and in the past year, I've worked with 3 who used donor eggs!  And it's been so interesting to hear their stories and see their babies. I have to say that the babies definitely look like the mamas too :-) One of the bigger hurdles for them seems to be how to tell family/friends, or whether to tell family/friends. Which to me is interesting because I'm not sure the stigma is the same for donor sperm?  Good luck on your journey, I hope to be joining you there in the coming years.

Diagnosed with DOR in October 2012

Surprise BFP October 2012! Chemical pregnancy

January 2013- decided to pursue donor egg IVF with my sister- she is diagnosed with DOR as well :-(

July 2013- decided on donor egg IVF in Europe, planning on early 2014 to give time to try naturally

Surprise BFP September 2013. Another chemical pregnancy :-( At the same time, a dear friend offers to donate her eggs to us! Her testing begins...

Surprise BFP October 2013!!!

First beta 29/10- 36

Second beta 31/10- 106, right on track!

Third beta 03/11- 277

Fourth beta 09/11- only 622... doubling time more than 3 days :-( Bracing ourselves for another miscarriage.

Fifth and final beta 12/11- 1875! Tripled in 3 days. RE wondering about ectopic...

13/11- first ultrasound- gestational sac, yolk sac and fetal pole seen! Baby measuring exactly right on for dates! We are ecstatic!!!  Too early for heartbeat so now waiting patiently for next ultrasound.

05/12- 8+6 - beautiful heartbeat of 165 heard and baby is exactly the right size (and also very photogenic).  Can't believe it!!!!!!

12/12- 9+5 - first OB appointment. New due date is July 12th by our 8 week scan. Can't believe how much baby was moving in there on the ultrasound today!!! Happy little heartbeat too.

June 17, 2014-  our little miracle baby boy born by c-section for pre-eclampsia and breech at 36 weeks!  He is so awesome.  So incredibly thankful....

Surprise BFP July 2015. Third chemical pregnancy. Ugh.

Surprise BFP August 2015.  Seems too good to be true.  Very cautious but holding out a bit of hope...

First beta 02/09 - 2811

Second beta 10/09 - 29 455

22/09 - first ultrasound at 7+5! Little baby measuring right on track with a beautiful heartbeat. Due date May 5th!

April 21, 2016 - our second miracle boy is born naturally after a c-section the first time.  What an experience… We are so thankful to the universe and feel that our family is now complete.

100% agree.  Combination of the pressure we put on ourselves (I think) and society's expectations of us as women.  Oops...there I go on a soapbox!  ;)

It was long, awful & hard. We got very lucky and didn't run out of both emotional and financial resources. We saw some of the most beautiful of people in our lowest moments. Baby Girl arrived Apr 10/2018
