Our only option to have another baby is to use a donor egg. I'm at Mt Sinai currently. I have a few questions as to how egg donation works. I was given the egg donation info at our last appointment before the IVF cycle.
So I have some questions and I'm hoping ppl can share their experiences with me.
Have any of you done an egg donor cycle at Mount Sinai?
Did you use a family member or an anonymous donor?
How much approx did the entire cycle cost you?
Did you get financing for this?
Is there age restrictions on the age of the egg donor if you used family/friends?
If you didn't use family/friends how did you find your donor?
That's all I can think of for now. I know I will have more. This is such a big decision and so we really want to weigh the pros and cons. Any help ppl have would be wonderful.
Thanks in advance!

If you go over to the Donor & Surrogacy area, you'll get more responses and also be able to look around and get more info!

So I recently went through an IVF cycle where unfortunately I did not produce any eggs. Going into the cycle I was told that we would have less than a 5% chance to get to an ER. I'm in my late 30's and my hubby is 41. I have one daughter who is almost 4 and is the result of a double egg transfer by IVF with ICSI in 2010.
Our only option to have another baby is to use a donor egg. I'm at Mt Sinai currently. I have a few questions as to how egg donation works. I was given the egg donation info at our last appointment before the IVF cycle.

Hi Super Mama..
I have no idea about Mount sinai but in general has to be same as other clinics..
It is your choice to use a friend or family member or anonymous egg donor through agencies..
I was told to choose a donor not older than 30 year old due a better egg quality and chance of success, but it is your choice again.
a cycle costs at least CAD 20,000 using Canadian agencies like egg helper or little miracle for an exclusive donor in your province or about CAD 15000 for a shared cycle. American based agencies or using an egg donor who lives out of your province is more expensive as you have to pay for her expenses for her trip to your clinic.
Financing ..!?? you have to pay agency fee to match with donor ..have to pay donor expenses before she starts her medication..have to pay clinic fee and ( medication, procedure fees )before transfer...
hope it helps

I used Create and Egg Helpers. My total cost was around 17-18k. We paid entirely out of pocket as we have no insurance coverage for IVF.
We chose not to do a shared cycle as I didn't want to wait for another person to choose our donor and when we did the math even with a good donor we wouldn't end up with that many embryos, on average.
We hoped to have embryos to freeze, but only got two. The donor responded surprisingly poorly, despite her best efforts. It was an anonymous cycle. We put two 3-day embryos in and I am currently 18 weeks pregnant with a daughter!
Hope that helps!
Me: when 42 DOR: AMH 1.8 pmol/L FSH 8.0 and a lowish sperm count. This is our chance at a child together <3
IUI#1 (February 2014) IUI with Femara and ?. Two follicles but BFN.
IVF#1 (September 2014) (Femara/Reponex) 5 eggs retrieved (some discordant growth), 3 mature, none fertilized.
IVF#2 (October 2014) (Femara/Puregon) 3 follicles, but ovulated prior to ER, so converted to IUI. Lining looked great, and 3 nice same-sized follicles but BFN.
November 2014- Starting our DE journey. Hopefully looking at a January cycle.
January 2015- Donor had an AFC of 28 and amazing labs - looked great. Unfortunately only 2 made it to ER! We proceeded anyhow and got two 8-cell day 3 embryos. Implanted both and one took! Due October with a precious girl (says Harmony test) <3
October 2015- healthy baby girl born <3
July 2016- Spontaneous pregnancy at 44 - wow! Fingers crossed for a happy outcome.
February 2017- a healthy baby girl <3

For ppl who are travelling abroad for this is there advantages to going out of country? Is it price? Are the conditions different?
Sweet one, can I ask how much the whole process will cost to go to Cancun? Do you have to go several times or is it done in one shot?

Hi Super Mama,
I am from Toronto, Shared cycle mean to divide the produced eggs between two recipients . so donor fee and her medication fee will divided too , but the risk is what if she does not produce enough good quality eggs ?( as terapin mentioned) what if you want to freeze some eggs or embryos for a second try or second baby? and you have to wait for someone else willing to use the same donor for shared cycle, also the cycle has to be matched with 2 recipients .. my doctor did not recommend it, although there are some successful stories..

We paid 20,000 to repromed

2000 for my medication so far
20,000 to clinic ??!!!
in create i was told it is somewhere about 14000 procedure + medication
Little miracle asked for 2500 agency fee + 6500 donor fee (in province)
Egg helpers asked for 2000 agency fee and 5000 donor fee ..
I was told if it is a anonymous donor- recipient, then it's not necessary to go after lawyers and legal contract ..although it is a choice..
Good luck to you

I have donated eggs 4 times to 5 couples.
I donated thru a bC clinic.
My 3rd donation I had 55 eggs so the Dr suggested the next cycle be "shared". If you want more info on splitting a cycle feel free to PM me. My last donor cycle I had 36 eggs which were split.
My medication was aprx 4,000 each cycle.
I have never used an agency .. & only my last cycle was there a legal contract drawn Up thru a lawyer.

Hello Niche!
I didn't get a private email from you unless I'm not looking in the right spot
If I may ask, who do you get out of being an egg donor? I read "well experienced" and to me that means you have done this lots. Do you have children of your own? Do you get financial compensation?
To everyone else, thanks for all the info. It has been helpful for my hubby and I. I'm still not sure using a donor is for me. I'm not sure how I would react to "well the baby looks nothing like you" or "the baby doesn't look at all like her sister". For those of you who have used a donor how did you deal with that?
I feel so torn.

Hi Super Mama
I did my donor egg cycle in New Delhi (I'm from India). We did not go with family/friends donor as we felt that it could get emotionally complicated later on. The clinic gave us a list of profiles of donors, with photographs, physical statistics, age, health background etc, and we selected the one that we felt looked similar to me, had no known health issues, and proven fertility. Our clinic gives a lot of importance to proven fertility. So it was not an anonymous donor, but not an acquaintance either, and we never met her.
Our clinic uses donors less than 30 yrs of age. Our donor was around 22 yrs old. The clinic uses a donor agency, which i believe how it works, at least here. The donors register with the agencies, and cost is based on the donor characteristics. If you use anonymous donor, then its cheaper, and if you select the donor then its slightly more expensive.
IVF in India is cheaper than Canada/US, but there is no financing or insurance coverage for fertility treatments.
Hope this helps, and good luck with your decision.

Thanks so much for ripleys help with all of this tough stuff. I just had my review appt yesterday and after talking to our dr and talking it over with my hubby we have made the choice not to go forward with finding a DE.
Lots of things factor into this decision and it was def not an easy one. We have a beautiful daughter who lights up my life every day. I'm having a hard time with things but I will grieve this and move on.
Thanks to everyone who has reached out to me.
