Chiming in here. I had three failed IVF cycles using DH's sperm. We have severe male factor. Just had my IUI using DS and it was a success! I only have one tube, also am hypothyroid, and I just turned 37. I think our chances were less than 10% but we didn't have enough money to go to IVF again. I did acupuncture a few months leading up to my cycle and during. She did 2 points for something called the door of the infants I guess it worked!

JacMac is right, it's a crapshoot. I think it's great that you are going to try 3 IUI's before IVF. I've heard that if you are going to have success it will usually happen within the first 3.

Good luck quitting smoking and I hope you get to have success before moving onto IVF!

Hi Alex,

I didn't really have any side effects from the Clomid, except for a thinner lining...maybe a couple hot flashes. They figured out I needed to start taking Estrace from days 7 to 11 or something to thicken the lining up. Other than that it was totally fine for me. I did Clomid combined with letrozole (Femara) and Estrace and my lining was 7mm at trigger...on the thin side but good enough.

I had my first IUI today and a few things came up:

1) lining. My lining is thin - less than 6 today. My RE, Dr Hannam, said that many women have pregnancies with thin linings, so it's just a matter of seeing if I'm one of them.

2) PCOS. I have 50+ AFC (whhyyyyy??) and my LH: FSH is about 2:1. However, RE said this wouldn't affect fertility as we know I ovulate. This really flies in the face of everything I've been reading, but he said he's not concerned.

3) Sperm. This is the big one: my husband had 3 million post-wash. RE said it was poor, and if this didn't work, it was a sperm issue. I was very surprised. My husband seems to think its temporary. We've conceived together before.

So, while my hopes are low for this IUI, I'm glad I did it because it revealed this sperm issue.

Good luck with your IUI, Alex!

I'm not an expert, so I really can't speak to any of your concerns. I have, however, I heard of people becoming pregnant with a 6 mm lining. The one thing I don't agree with is that if it doesn't work then it is solely a sperm issue. I've had over 25 million post wash and still BFN. Other people have have had much less and BFP. It's so much more than the ingredients.... I'm sorry I do not know a thing about PCOS.

Wishing you success! When is your test?

Thanks, abundant love! My preg test isn't until a week from Monday, but I'm pretty sure this was a fail. We had a meeting with Hannam yesterday and he was much more pessimistic than ever -- mostly because of my lining. He feels that's a huge hurdle to even IVF, as we can deal with sperm via ICSI. I'm pretty gutted. I do have very light cycles, other than when I had the fibroid. My lining was 6mm the day after I was triggered. He actually brought up a GS.

The plan is to do a freeze-all with PGD in January and then try to implant them in me after manipulating my endometrium. If that fails, it's on to GS. I was surprised to hear he was so optimistic about my egg quality though.

Have you tried acupuncture?  It helps the lining.  I have a thick lining anyway but after acupuncture, it was even thicker.  It is good to do for a couple of months before transfer and twice on the day of transfer.

Good luck to you!
