I had my first ever egg retrieval last saturday and the eggs were matured and had loads of 'cells' around them as they should. However, they didnt fertilize. The lab techician said there were darkish shells around the eggs and a thicker than normal shell too.
My question is: Ive been taking dhea (50 mg a day) for 6 weeks prior to egg retrieval even though I tested my testosterone and dhea beforehand and this bloodtest showed I have normal testosterone and above normal DHEA (for my age). I took DHEA cause I dont have many anthral follicles, maybe 8 all in all, and i seem to be a low responder.
For this fiirst IVF my doc put me on max dose Menopur (450), I ended up on this max for 17 days. In natural cycles I ovulate on day 15-16, but this IVF had my retrieval on day 21!
Now, my question is: do you think that the DHEA or too much hormones too long is guilty of the bad egg quality this cycle?
Im dying to get it right next time, so sincerely hope you can help me.
Love Freya
