Has anyone ever needed bloodwork back SAME DAY for IVF?

Or perhaps done IVF elsewhere and needed bloodwork done in Saskatoon and sent out of province same day?

I don't know where to go, as local Gamma Dynacare labs are not able to get it back same-day...

Help! Thanks :)

I thought if the doctor put a 'stat' on the bloodwork that the lab could get it back same day.  But maybe it depends on the tests that they need done...  And I don't know how it works if the results are being sent out of province.

Have you considered working with Aurora to help with anything you need done locally?

Otherwise, I'm not sure which labs could accomodate this but would be interested to hear what you find out, and also what you find out about putting 'stat' on it.

Hmm they did not put STAT on my Lab Req's...

But my husband said if I go to St. Pauls hospital and get it done, they can get it back that day. But I might keep asking around. If anyone has any other suggestions that would be great.

I have not considered working with Aurora; we did our IUI's there and since we have chosen not to do IVF there, I am not keen on going back, but I suppose it is something to re-consider.

Thanks ladies!

Or maybe RUH lab? ...worth asking as they are in the habit of providing quick turnaround for local IVF cycles.

Aurora works with lots of people who decide to go elsewhere to coordinate with the other clinic - though it's not cheap - see prices at:

IVF Satellite Monitoring

Includes coordination and monitoring of IVF/frozen embryo transfer for other fertility centres

http://auroraivf.ca/...re-aurora/fees/

I know what you mean, that you might feel awkward but on the plus side you'd get things handled properly by someone who's a specialist in their field.

If you go to any lab early in the morning, you will get the result same day

I agree ruh lab is Quick to give results. I go there first thing in am at 8. Just make sure you put stat bw on requisition in red pen. I usually get my results from my family doctor in 2 hrs. They will not fax results to vfc because they are not in the system. No appointment needed. The lab is right by the starbucks ;)

Late to this thread, but I walked into the lab at Regina General Hospital with a BC blood requisition from Dr. Hudson at VFC and they didn't blink twice... it was marked stat and VFC received the results directly from the lab within a few hours... different labs, different rules?

Thought I would update this in case anyone else was looking for info...

We are doing IVF through RFP (Calgary) and need to get blood work done in Stoon on a Saturday this month. I called Gamm Dynacare on Lenore and they assured me that it was about a four hour turn around on any test marked urgent, and they could fax results to the out-of-province doctor as long as they had name, address, phone, and fax number. They are also open seven days a week and said it doesn't matter which day urgent is 4 hours.

I also go to VFC, have gotten my blood done at Gamma Dynacare in Regina -- I always write "STAT pls" on all of my reqs myself -- and VFC always has the results within a few hours.  It's faster in Regina to go to the hospital blood lab (but not open on weekends), because Gamma Dynacare actually sends their blood to the lab at the hospital.  With the "STAT" from the hospital VFC usually gets the results within 1-2 hours.  Out-of-province Dr isn't in the hospital system when you register at main hospital registration so they put your family Dr on the forms and a code for out-of-province req.  Then at least here at RGH when you go down the hall to the actual blood lab to get it done, there they can pull up the Dr (or input him) and will fax the results anywhere out of province in addition to your family Dr.

We are planning to do IVF #1 with Aurora in October. All of this is happening so fast and part of me wonders if we should get a second opinion because we have an unexplained infertility diagnosis. I do like my doctor at Aurora but sometimes wonder if she isn't looking hard enough into what could be the issues with us. I am always curious why some people in SK decide to go with another clinic. Anyone care to share their stories about why they chose another clinic than Aurora?

jassey...
We just had too many doubts after doing 3 rounds of insemination at Aurora. We weren't thrilled with the clinic or staff. We felt pushed into IVF, and honestly,'just really listened to our gut instinct. Put a lot on the line by going to Victoria Fertikity, but it felt right to us, and paid off in the end :) We will be going back for #2 if necessary without a doubt. Do what feels right! Good luck.

Hi Jassey,

I did 1 IVF at Aurora and was cancelled because I only had 2 follicles growing.  Too bad that might've been the best I could do, and we'll never know if those 2 could have been good eggs now a full 2 yrs ago.  I spoke to 3 other drs/clinics after that, and every one of them said they would never have cancelled me. However to me it also indicated their own confidence in their abilities, since they were right away saying poor chances of actually retrieving 2 eggs from 2 follicles, etc.  I found they also will only use a couple of standard cookie-cutter protocols that they group all patients into.  Their is no individualization.  E.g. they have their "low responder protocol" (just a basic antagonist) that they put everyone on.  When I asked about other things I'd read that could apply to me, they just said they hadn't done it before and weren't comfortable.  They also work on "batch cycles", meaning they put all women on BCP before their cycles for as long as necessary to get them onto the clinic schedule so all women cycle at the same time, all retrievals the same week (during which they won't do FETs, which therefore also have to be artificially timed for their own purposes), etc.  Especially older women or DOR are at risk of over-suppression with BCP, especially if on it for a month like I had to be. I didn't like that things were optimized for the clinic rather than for the patient.  Lastly, at the time (fall/winter 2013-14) they had not yet started using vitrification (fast freezing) which other clinics have been using already for 4-5 years vs. slow freezing which results in more embryos lost on thawing.  Overall I found the Drs nice enough, but didn't feel like they truly cared one way or another about "me" -- my Dr ended up just shrugging her shoulders and offering the exact same protocol again or donor egg.  The nurse also made it clear that she thought I was wasting her time and mine.  My experience in Victoria has been night and day, my only regret is not going there much sooner. It doesn't end up costing much more because cycle costs are lower which offsets the travel costs.  For sure if your gut has you wondering if you should get a 2nd opinion, get it.  It's a small cost in the grand scheme of things to give you peace of mind in a big decision.

Me: 40 41 42 43 44 45, single, FSH 6, LH 2 (FSH not high, but exceeded 2:1 ratio), DOR (AFC 5-7, v.low AMH), all else normal/healthy.

After a difficult 6 year journey of everything going wrong, amazing baby boy born Dec 2018.  Donor sperm + DEB-USA donor eggs.  Detailed journey in 'about me'.

We are patients at Aurora and also did a consult with VFC. In the end we decided to stick with Aurora. I considered our case pretty straight forward (PCOS + MFI) and I am pretty "young" in terms of fertility. One of the reasons we chose to cycle with Aurora was that we would be close to home and I could still work during my IVF cycle (still a 2.5 drive for every appointment though!). I'm self employed (so no sick days etc, if I am not in, my income is $0!). If we had chosen to cycle at VFC it would have cost thousands more for us (when looking at the lost income I would have had). We decided to try one round at Aurora and probably would have moved onto VFC if it wasn't successful. Thankfully we had success with our first fresh cycle at Aurora. Go with what feels right! It doesn't hurt to do a consult and make up your mind from there.

Jassey- we consulted with Aurora, and would have preferred to stay closer to home. My inlaws live in Saskatoon so it would have been much cheaper and easier. However, we weren't given a choice. They doctor took one look at my BMI and told me to lose weight or she wouldn't help us. This after seeing us six months earlier when I was on cancer drugs and telling me to come back when I was off the drugs. She said we were too difficult a case and she wouldn't touch me because my BMI was over 40. We consulted with Regional Fertility in Calgary and while they have general preferences for BMI, it's not a hard rule - they felt that overall my health was good and my cancer history and age were factors that were pushing us toward IVF while BMI was the only one pushing us away. We are currently in Calgary and should be doing our egg retrieval in the next couple of days. Every concern that Aurora had about my BMI has been unfounded so far (hard to visualize ovaries, poor response to drugs, worse side effects - all false). We've been very happy with Calgary. You have to do what feels right for you. There are definitely advantages to staying close to home (like not paying $3000 in hotel bills)
