Hey out there....

Just was chatting with a friend tonight who also has DOR, and she had been offered IUI by her RE.  She tried this a few times, without success, but had been offered nonetheless. I was not offered this by our RE, but it was suggested that we go straight to IVF ASAP or donor egg IVF.

Has anyone tried this with DOR and had success?  It's so much cheaper and less invasive and while I am waiting to do DE IVF, I thought to myself that it might be worth a try??

Thanks for any stories you have to share.

Diagnosed with DOR in October 2012

Surprise BFP October 2012! Chemical pregnancy

January 2013- decided to pursue donor egg IVF with my sister- she is diagnosed with DOR as well :-(

July 2013- decided on donor egg IVF in Europe, planning on early 2014 to give time to try naturally

Surprise BFP September 2013. Another chemical pregnancy :-( At the same time, a dear friend offers to donate her eggs to us! Her testing begins...

Surprise BFP October 2013!!!

First beta 29/10- 36

Second beta 31/10- 106, right on track!

Third beta 03/11- 277

Fourth beta 09/11- only 622... doubling time more than 3 days :-( Bracing ourselves for another miscarriage.

Fifth and final beta 12/11- 1875! Tripled in 3 days. RE wondering about ectopic...

13/11- first ultrasound- gestational sac, yolk sac and fetal pole seen! Baby measuring exactly right on for dates! We are ecstatic!!!  Too early for heartbeat so now waiting patiently for next ultrasound.

05/12- 8+6 - beautiful heartbeat of 165 heard and baby is exactly the right size (and also very photogenic).  Can't believe it!!!!!!

12/12- 9+5 - first OB appointment. New due date is July 12th by our 8 week scan. Can't believe how much baby was moving in there on the ultrasound today!!! Happy little heartbeat too.

June 17, 2014-  our little miracle baby boy born by c-section for pre-eclampsia and breech at 36 weeks!  He is so awesome.  So incredibly thankful....

Surprise BFP July 2015. Third chemical pregnancy. Ugh.

Surprise BFP August 2015.  Seems too good to be true.  Very cautious but holding out a bit of hope...

First beta 02/09 - 2811

Second beta 10/09 - 29 455

22/09 - first ultrasound at 7+5! Little baby measuring right on track with a beautiful heartbeat. Due date May 5th!

April 21, 2016 - our second miracle boy is born naturally after a c-section the first time.  What an experience… We are so thankful to the universe and feel that our family is now complete.

I would listen to your RE. Age also plays a big factor in IUI success.

Single with secondary infertility, AMA, DOR, RPL.  TTC started with four failed IUI's.

IVF #1: converted to another IUI after 2 of 10 follies went rogue during stims --> BFN

IVF #2: 6 eggs retrieved, 5 fertilized with ICSI --> 3dt of 4 high grade embryos with AH --> BFN

IVF #3: 6 eggs retrieved, 4 fertilized with ICSI --> vitrified at 2PN (had to put TTC on hold)

IVF #4: 11 eggs retrieved, 9 fertilized with ICSI --> 5dt of 3 blasts  --> th_abfp.gif --> lost HB at 8w4d 8388.gif

IVF #5: 7 eggs retrieved, 6 fertilized with ICSI --> 5dt of 2 blasts --> th_abfp.gif --> missed m/c at 7w3d 8388.gif

IVF #6: cancelled due to poor response --> IUI --> totally unexpected th_abfp.gif --> chemical 8388.gif

Getting off the IVF train and happily moving on to international adoption

Dossier approved & registered!  Waiting for a referral...  kaffeetrinker_2.gif

Nine months later, still waiting...

Hi,

I wish I would have skipped the IUIs and went straight to IVF... Like nettibug said, age plays a big factor. But even in the early 30s, egg quality is affected by DOR. I think it also depends at what stage you are. If your test results are off the chart and have a very low AFC, skip the IUIs, but if you still have a good number of follicles and your test results aren't that bad... Maybe one or two IUIs would be worth it.

However; in the end, you may regret spending so much time and money towards IUIs when that energy could have been put towards your IVF (if the IUIs don't work or course).

Good luck :)

Lisa

I am glad I did 2 IUIs so that my dr had an idea of how I responded to stims, but I am also glad I did not keep going with IUIs because there were other issues at hand that I would not have discovered.

I'm glad we tried one IUI (which got cancelled btw) to a) ease into the process and learn what it means and B) give the clinic valuable information on how my body responds to the meds.
But I'm also very glad we didn't waist any more time and jumped right into IVF after that.

We did one IUI with our previous clinic (BFN) and when we switched clinics the RE suggested we not waste our time our money and move straight to IVF (after DOR diagnosis).  IVF was also unsuccessful and we are now waiting to see the RE and see what to do next.  Best of luck with whatever you decide.

i did 6 IUIs, all of which failed. I was just in denial and kept thinking the next cycle was the one. On the upside, it helped us figure out my response to meds. It was a pricey lesson. Also, it gave me assurance that IVF was the right next step and that we weren't willy-nilly spending a larger amount of money. All-in-all, it set us back by at least 6 months and $5000 (procedures and meds) which is just about half the cost of one IVF, and alot of emotional ups and downs.

Good luck.

Me: 38, fibroids, DOR

DH: 37 and doing great!

May 2009 - natural DS arrives!!!

March 2011 - TTC

Feb 2012 - Diagnosed with extensive uterine fibroids and premature ovarian aging (high FSH, low AMH) and DOR. RE recommends donour eggs and surrogate - - but we're not ready for that as we've only just begun.

Spring/Summer 2012 - Underwent 3 hysteroscopic myomectomies.

Summer/Fall/Winter 2012 - Underwent 6 IUIs, all BFNs

March 2013 - IVF #1: 4 mature follies, retrieved 3, only 2 fertilized, only 1 made it to day 5 and then was frozen (devastated). Transfer cancelled due to recurring fluid in endometrium (devastated again).

April 2013 - Cancelled FET due to endometrial fluid despite treatment with estrogen patches. Office hysteroscopy showed no scarring of endometrium. Fluid likely from the uteran muscle.

May 2013 - Decreased fluid in endometrium. RE said "maybe hysteroscopy knocked something loose" and recommended FET. Chose natural cycle instead in hopes of further clearing my fluid - BFN.

June 2013 - pneumonia. Cancelled FET. Natural cycle with intralips - BFN.

July 2, 2013 - Natural FET of my only frostie with intralips and accupuncture. BFP!!!

EDD March 21, 2014

Thanks for your feedback everyone... this is so frustrating that the 'cheaper' options just don't seem to work with DOR.  Sigh.  I think we will carry on with our plan for donor eggs after reading your responses.....

Best of luck to everyone.
