IVF#1 we put back 2 and had a vanishing twin ... and IVF#2 we put back 2 and nada ...

FET we will be putting 2 back in - but also at the advice of my RE who highly recommended it. I think she quoted me a 45% chance with transferring 2, although really they either implant or don't !!!

I agree with Rosachka, it really is a personal decision, whatever you are comfortable with :) Take the path of least regret ...

I'm definitely leaning towards only 1.

I have no science to back this up, but based on my history, I feel like I would be on the higher end of risking twins.  I've been pregnant 3x so far and all 3 pregnancies were conceived naturally.  First was after 3 months of trying, and ended in a miscarriage.  Second was after 6 months of trying and ending due to a genetic disorder at almost 22 weeks. Third was successful on the first try, and I delivered Brooklyn at almost 39 weeks.  in retrospect, I think my first miscarriage was due to the genetic disorder but was undiagnosed at that point.  All my pre-IVF testing came back totally normal too.  So I have history of successful pregnancies and as well, because we are doing PGD the embryos that we will be implanting are going to be 'perfect' to quote my RE.  (We are also testing for any single chromosome disorders like downs, trisomy 18 etc)  Because the embryos will have been through PGD, my RE feels my miscarriage risk will be dramatically decrease as the majority of miscarriages are due to chromosome issues).

So combining my pregnancy history with the reduction in miscarriage risk due to PGD, I feel that 2 might take more easily in me!  The wild card is that I'm now 38, whereas my previous pregnancies were are 34, 35 and 36.

What do you guys think???

Sarah - I've decided on transferring only 1. I only did 1 for my fresh IVF cycle as well. I have 4 embryos of really good quality and since FET is so much cheaper (relative to IVF) I figure I have 4 shots, or if I allow myself to dream - 2 children, but separately. I also think it's a personal decision, but I agree with you on your history of pregnancy - looks fairly likely that you'll get pregnant, so why risks twins? I'd be ok with having twins, but I'm so afraid of the risks and premature birth so I'd rather transfer them one by one :)

We will be transferring 2. All of our other cycles we transferred 3. I don't have a issue getting pregnant with help it's staying that way. We will be saving 2 embryos in case we have to do surrogacy if I can't carry. However I am VERY hopeful that this will be our successful cycle.

For the person who asked about flying in the first trimester. I was asked but my boss to go to Vancouver for a training session and that would be during my tww and my RE said absolutely not. I am on a strict rest for 3 mths post transfer till we know this baby(ies) are not going anywhere. So will be no excersise, heavy lifting, straining, cleaning with chemicals etc. I am actually looking forward to my time off.

I'm totally leaning towards one the more I think about it.  And DH is on board with 2.  So we will see how this turns out lol!

I called to pester my lab today to see if they had received the PGD results....they are expecting them by the end of the week.  boo!  more friggin' waiting!!  And I asked if she could tell me the grading of the blastocysts, but she said they prefer to share the grading once they know the genetic results.  Which I guess makes sense...no sense getting excited about an excellent quality blast, to only days later find out its affected.

Still in limbo!  Guess this is good practice for the 2ww lol!

Only a few days to go Sarah! You can do it :)

I had my biopsy today. I was so nervous but it was a piece of cake! My dr was chatting with me and 3 seconds later she said it's done! I was shocked. Then she stayed for a few minutes and I had a chance to ask her some questions that I didn't think I'd have a chance to ask. You know how appointments are sometimes so rushed or you're in a compromising position that isn't great for a discussion? It was so nice to walk away today with my protocol set up, my questions answered and my dr telling me she feels really positive about this cycle. Plus, this whole FET thing is really simple compared with IVF! Looks like I have 1 monitoring appointment for my lining check and then providing it's ok, transfer. So simple. Hope everyone is having as good of a day :)

Nurse08- start Lupron Aug 22, Baseline Sept 3
Rosachka-waiting for day 1 estimated Sept 6
McBee- waiting for Day 1, estimated Sept 19
Miss Fitzy- waiting for Day 1, any day now. ....
oneMorechance- start Lupron Sept 2nd, estimated transfer Sept 27th
ttc2013-started estrace on August 18th, estimated transfer first week of September.
Matsuhez - waiting for day 1, then estrogen pills and patches and baby aspirin

Preparing for FET

FET #1 - Sept/13 - (estrace and patch) cancelled cycle (did not respond to estrogen, poor lining)

McBee fx for great results this week. Matsuhez glad everything went well for you today.
AFM I have an ultrasound on Thursday then start lupron Monday so things are moving along slowly but surely. On a different subject, DH bought me a car and a beautiful necklace for our anniversary that I didn't want to celebrate on the day of our BFN. Used car but I love it and him! Have a wonderful day all!

I'd like to join!  I just got the green light to start taking my estrace to prep for my FET.  from my calculations, I should be getting my transfer September 11th, one day after our 2nd wedding anniversary.  Starting our 3rd yr of marriage with an embryo in me!  Hope it will stick... for ALL OF US!

Me: 37, TTC since July 2011

Husband: 38- thought it was DNA fragmentation-turns out maybe not

DX: Unexplained, possibly polyp (removed),

Nov 2012: Totally natural IVF cycle, 2 eggs retrieved, one fertilized, day2 transfer of a "perfect" 4 cell embryo, BFN

Jan 23 2013: starting modified natural cycle (150 puregon day 4, 6, 8) day 4 US: 5 follicles on L side, 7 follicles on R side
Feb 4 2013: ER: 9 eggs retrieved. Cyst drained during ER as well.
Feb 5th: 1 egg mature+ICSI, fertilized. 3 immature eggs maturing in lab, 5 immature.
Feb 6th: 1 embryo dividing well, 3 eggs matured and ICSI done, waiting to see if fertilized. 5 discarded. tentative transfer day feb 8th.
Feb 8th: ET, 1xday 4 (cells have started to compact.) 3 leftovers have fertilized.
Feb 11th: call from embryologist: 3 leftovers arrested. nothing to freeze.
Feb 14th: 6dp4dt, HPT-BFN major bummer.
Feb 20th, Beta BFN

April 2013:Fresh Cycle. Antagonist protocol. 150puregon/day+Orgalutran+Ovidrel.

April 8th: 12 eggs collected, 8 mature, 7 fertilized. 7 blasts, 6 hatching, 1 hatched.

April 13th: 1 great looking hatching blast transferred.  6 blasts frozen.

April 22: crying my eyes out, cry.gif feel period coming. BETA on the 24th.

April 24th: NEGATIVE BETA, but got call saying that I can start preparing for FET right away

May 14th: FET 1 hatching blast BETA May 24th.

May 17-18: cramps at 3dpFET, then on and off since

May 18th: hpt BFN

May24th: BETA day: BFN. Told to wait out a cycle before pursuing another FET.

June 2013: Hubs did a second DNA fragmentation test with another urologist for a second opinion.  Test came back at 15% abnormal, so... now within the norm... huh??? So happy but wondering how it went from 59% fragmented down to 15% fragmented.  Morphology still low.

July 15 2013: Hysteroscopy, Endo Biopsy done.  They've removed a polyp as well.  Still waiting for full results... darn summer vacations, making test results delayed... so anxious.

August 28th 2013: Green light to start Estrace today for FET

Sept 4: on duty Dr. (not Dr. Tan) gave me a big NO on a double transfer due to me having blasts and my age URGH!

Sept 11th: Transfer day.  surprise! Dr tells me they're transferring 2 hatching blasts.  lower quality though...

Sept 23: Beta: negative.

WTF appointment Sept 26.

5 3 frozen hatching blasts left.

Immune Testing: positive for high CD56 (and other stuff moderate)

December 21 2013: Cycle starts! Immune protocol: Prednisone, Lovenox, Estrace, PIO, Doxy, Medrol, Calcium

Perfect lining (triple stipe, first time the technician is so happy with it!)

Transfer on Jan 7th, Empty Bladder transfer. (so much easier!)

1 blast didnt make it thru thaw, 2 great ones left, transferred both. so nothing left from our 2nd cycle.

Embryologist particularly thrilled with an almost fully hatched blast.

Jan 20: Beta 208

Vitality Scan Feb 3

Feb 3: no gestational sac found. Beta 5.9.

March 2014: IVF#3

7 eggs, 6 mature, 4 blasts.

Immune: prednisone, Lovenox, Intralipids.

transferred 2, 2 frozen.

April 3rd: BFN.

Thats it.  consult at MFC.  BIG polyp found right on implantation site.  Seems to have been there all along and was never properly removed or not completely in the past.

Clinic Switch to MFC- a world of difference.

I see some of you ladies have had an endo biopsy done recently.  I did one in July (couldnt do an FET in august because I was travelling) and I heard that there are benefits to doing an endo biopsy... like it helps implantation... is that why you had one done?  How long do those "benefits" last?

Hmm that's interesting. If you don't mind me asking, how does the biopsy help implantation? My RE never even brought that up to me, so I'm like to know more about it.

I too never knew about it... my doctor said he'd order a hysteroscopy to find out/re-confirm that everything is ok with me and that they didnt miss anything.  lo and behold I get to the day of the hysteroscopy and my surgeon tells me my doctor added an endometrial biopsy.  I didnt think much of it but as an obsessive googler and lurker of ttc forums, I found out that:

(found online)

"Endometrial biopsy - also called scratch biopsy or endometrial injury - is a new technique which is being used to help embryos implant more successfully during in-vitro fertilization (IVF) cycles. Innovative new research has shown that superficially injuring the lining of the uterus can actually stimulate the womb to be more receptive to an implanting embryo resulting in a welcome boost to take home baby rates. This technique is especially warranted when recurrent implantation failure is suspected. Pregnancy rates may improve by up to 70% when this techniques is employed in the cycle before IVF."

article in globe and mail referring to a research done in 2003:

http://m.theglobeand...?service=mobile

Now I'm just trying to find out how long these benefits last... because I didnt have a FET on the cycle following my biopsy...

Yep, that's exactly how it was explained to me. Scratch the lining a little and then it is forced to heal itself, and this process makes it more receptive for implantation. Honestly, if it helps at all I would recommend it because it was so quick and easy and didn't cost a thing!

Me: 35 DH: 31

Aug/12 - began testing at MFC
Feb/13 - septum removal surgery

IVF

May/13 - IVF begins....
May 17 - ER 22 eggs, 20 mature, 18 fertilized. On a protocol to minimize ohss, so lots of bed rest and gatorade!
May 22 - transferred 1 blast. No sign of ohss - yay! Now for that 2ww....
May 24 - 4 frozen blasts - yay!
June 3 - BFN

Preparing for FET
Aug 27 - endometrial biopsy
FET #1 - Sept/13 - (estrace and patch) cancelled cycle (did not respond to estrogen, poor lining)
FET #1 - Oct-Nov/13 - (unmedicated FET) cancelled cycle (did not respond at all)
FET #1 - Nov/13 - third time's a charm?? (lupron and estrace) - nope.  Cancelled because AF came mid-cycle

FET #1 - January, 2014 - monitoring to see what's going on and ended up in a natural cycle - discovered I ovulated, so I transferred 1 blast on Jan. 21.

Feb 3 - BFP!!!!!!! Beta@422 (with Hcg support)

Sarah - I agree that looking at your history it makes sense to transfer just one especially after your embryos would undergo PGD testing.  When are you getting the results? Is it the end of the week already?

Matsuhez  - happy that your biopsy went very well yesterday. I am dreading mine as the last time I was in a lot of pain both during and after, but it worked!

oneMorechance - Congrats on your anniversary (and on getting a nice car and necklace).  After our stellar IVF cycle I decided to POAS two days before beta as it was our 10 year anniversary of our first day, which we celebrate every year, needless to say that after looking at one line, neither DH nor I was in the mood to celebrate. Those BFNs can dampen any celebration.  Here is hoping for only good news on all occasions from now on :)    By the way, some REs are very open to trying different things that are suggested by patients (within reason I guess), so do bring this up with your RE at your u/s tomorrow.

RYLIE91011 - Welcome to the group!  I don't know much about biopsy, so the excerpt that you provided was very helpful, but when I was undergoing my first FET about 2 years ago, my RE suggested a biopsy in the same cycle as my FET to increase my chances of implantation. I wanted to suggest it to him anyways, as I've "heard" girls talking about it on this site.  I strongly believe that it helped, and we are doing exactly the same thing this time around. :)  Although, I am not sure how long those benefits lasts.  Can you ask your RE?

MissFitzy  - Great job!!! I wanted to do something similar, but only remember doing one for IVF group (I think the one we did together in March/April 2011).  I'll repost it at the end of my post so we can keep it going :)

AFM - Had my u/s yesterday and HSG today. Whoever here said that it was much easier after having DS was totally right!  It was painless, waay better than what I remember it being 2.5 years ago.  My only problem is that my right ovary has a stage freight and always hiding. So the u/s tech had to shove this thing inside my body a lot (with me pushing from the outside) to get pics of that ovary.  I remember that during ER, two nurses were pushing on my side so RE could get access to that ovary and get eggs out.  But the end result...I am cleared to proceed with FET with my next AF which is expected in about a week or so yahoo.gif

Not yet!!  I wish!  I called the lab on Monday and they said 'end of the week'...whatever that means.  I will follow up again mid day Friday.  I think I'm even more sold on 1 embryo....we are doing  two PGD tests...one was built specifically for us based my DNA and DH;s DNA looking for the genetic disorder I'm a carrier for.  In addition, we are doing CGH testing which, as I just been reading recently, has been shown in recent studies to significantly increase IVF success rates because it rules at any embryos that have too many or too few chromosomes.  Once I know how many healthy embryos I have and their grading, we will make the final call.

This endometrial biopsy stuff is interesting!  I have an appointment with my RE on Tuesday so I'll ask then too.

Anyone else just dying to get their period to get this show on the road?!!
