kristina-holy cow batman! Awesome beta! I'm going to suspect twins, you tripled my beta and your test was was only 1dpo more than mine! I'm in awe!
DB-that's too funny about the cravings, it's too early for that for me. I'm just constantly hungry.

Just curious what others symptoms are, I know everyone's different:
Today I am 5 weeks 2 days : heavy and full feeling in uterus like AF is right around the corner, some breast tenderness, nausea throughout the day worse in the morning ( no throwing up yet ).

Me 34 (28 when we did first IVF) DH 48 3 IVF's, 2 FET's, & 2 IUI's.  Still hoping for a baby at the end of the road.

Naomi005, I also had bleeding in early week 5. Went for an u/s the same day and they said my cervix was closed, so it is not a miscarriage, which I was obviously over the moon about. However, it was a mystery as to where it was coming from. At my 6wk u/s they could still see fluid, but it was clear and everything looked great.
This morning I woke up again with spotting. Not sure if I should be concerned, but I will just wait and see what happens. I have an apt with Dr. tomorrow anyways, so I'll see what he says.
Keep us posted and I'll do the same. Good luck.
Oct 2011- first visit to fertility clinic- Feb 2012- IVF #1- 21 eggs retrieved, 16 mature, 11 fertilized, 5 made it to freeze on day 5- OHSS was brutal! March 2012 FET transferred 1- BFP- ended in mc- May 2012 transferred 2 BFP- pregnant with twins. Mc one and gave birth to DS Feb 2013- Oct 2013 back to clinic- Jan 2014 transferred 2- BFP- ended in mc- April 2014 IUI- BFN- July 2014 IVF#2- retrieved 42 eggs, 34 mature, used ICSI this time and 23 fertilized. 17 made it to freezing day 5/6. OHSS kicked in...(not as bad as the first time thank goodness, but VERY uncomfortable). PGS results came back with only 5 normal embryos. 3 2AA's, 1 2AB and 1 3AB. Sept 5- transferred 2, 2AA's. 7dp5dt blood test negative:(

Manders and Naoimi - I hope your bleeding scares stop and that everything is okay!
Is anyone else finding their sleep patterns interrupted. I'm going to bed a little earlier because I seem so exhausted during the day but I'm waking up so much earlier and can't get back to sleep yet still so tired!! This morning I woke up at 4am and it was as if my stomach were doing flip flops so I finally got up at 5. Don't have to leave for work till 7 I feel jipped because I could be sleeping right now. Feeling fairly gaggy this morning but not too bad. Sometimes I wonder if its in my head?

TJ - Ya, my sleep patterns got pretty messed up for a bit there. Fortunately I'm self employed and work from home so I was able to steal afternoon naps. I was averaging 11hrs a night + 2-3hrs during the day. Fortunately my energy levels are picking up and I haven't napped the last few days, however today may be an exception, we'll have to wait and see :) I'm curious if you MS is going to pick up speed. I was actually fine for the first week and a bit, but then when it kicked in, it just got worse by the day.

Manders and Naoimi - I had some spotting early on with DD. I think it has a lot to do with the post IVF meds/expereince and your body just trying to figure out what it's supposed to be doing on it's own, plus what it's being told to do with the additional support meds. Naoimi, won't your clinic take you in to check you out with an internal?? At this point in the game is rather challenging to bother with an ER or public healthcare. There is nothing they can (or will do) to prevent anything and your still so early on that they won't be able to see anything externally. Even when I started bleeding at 19w with my DS prior to being admitted to the hospital they were all useless. As long as they saw a heart beating and I had no cramping to go with my minimal bleeding, then I was fine in their eyes. It took 3 days, 2 hospitals and two ultrasounds before they concluded that my cervix was pooched and I was in imminent labour. Ridiculous.

as for symptoms.... I am 8w2d. I have a little belly already peaking (it shows up earlier with each pregnancy) The knockers are giant, full and tender (and will only get bigger and heavier - I'm a cow when it comes to milk production) and the MS is under control with medication. Without it I'm a mess. Here's a little TMI... yesterday, fed up with the whole MS thing I chugged a glass of water first thing in the AM knowing full well what it would do. Sure enough it didn't fail, 3 mins later it was up and gone and I was done my morning barf session quickly. Grossest part... damn stuff was still cold on the way back out. Gross I know, but it caught me by surprise, so I couldn't resist sharing. This whole MS thing has become a bit of a science project for me over the years :)

I'm actually going to be with limited internet access for the next few days, so it'll be good to disconnect and reconnect with nature over the long weekend.

Anyone else have any long weekend plans?
TTC#1 April 2003 - Jan 2009
9 IUIs, 12 months Fermara, 4 months Clomid, 5 rounds of injectable, 1 LAP, 1 HSG, 2 Uterine Biopsies, 1 Postcoital, 1 IVF, 2 FETs... 2nd Fesh Cycle IVF - ++Beta 110!

TTC#2 - Dreams coming true... Surprise BFP Au Naturel! Never really started trying, but never gave up hope on dreams coming true. 20w2, after 6 days of strict bedrest, we lost our baby boy, Emmett to my incompetent cervix and he was born sleeping. 24cm long, 0.67lbs he was the most perfect little angel and has brought with him many lessons for us to remember him by.

Lightening strikes twice apparently>>>> May 24 ++HPT, Followed by ++Beta. Numbers are low, but doubling. EDD Feb1/2013

Today I feel like I can relax. I don't think it has really sunk in yet that I really am pregnant. We wait so long for it that it feels surreal to even say the words! my GP has decided to refer me to a high risk OB. My blood clotting issue is too much of a concern. Ultrasound in 2 weeks to see our little one. Praying ( and I'm not a religious person) to see aperfect heartbeat. Have a good weekend everyone. Happy Canada Day!

Hey everyone, twin B just wasn't meant to be. We had our 6wk6day u/s yesterday and the 1 baby looked great!! Measuring right on track with a heartbeat of 121 bpm. Twin B will reabsorb. Super excited for the one baby though!! Starting to feel pretty nauseous on a regular basis now, very tired, but BB's aren't too sore yet. I also had a beta den yesterday, so I will find out the numbers this afternoon.
No vomiting yet, but seem to be gagging on breakfast everyday.
What is everyone eating for breakfast these days?

Great Beta TJ, thrilled for you.

Manders - so sorry about twin B. it's good to hear that the other bean is doing great! Btw - I am eating grapefruit for breakfast everyday and gluten-free Rice Krispies with almond milk. I seriously cannot get enough grapefruit!

Tjluvbug - your second beta is awesome! Sorry about the sickness : (

AFM - not much. My first prenatal was mostly my obstetrician telling me (again) how much he dislikes an RE in Calgary and how he's going to recommend patients to Victoria now. I totally get that he doesn't like that RE, but seriously? I wanted to talk about my pregnancy - lol. He just handed me a bunch of requisition forms for blood tests. I waited 1.5 hours past my appointment time - I got spoiled with fertility clinics where everything is on time : ) I have a third ultrasound on July 12.
Me - 34DH - 37TTC since September 2006Unexplained InfertilityHad Lap "just in case" - no endo.2 HSGs - all clear3 IUI with Clomid - BFN1 IVF in jan 2011. No ET due to severe OHSS.FET April 27 - BFNFET#2 - September 9/2011 - BFNFET #3 - Dec/2011 - BFN.Tired of of the same old protocol and BFNs. On to VFCApril 2012 - transferred 2 blasts. TJ - I just know you'll see a healthy little baby with a strong heartbeat. Seeing that life inside is just a wonderful experience. I can't wait for you too see it! Wow - we've both been trying since 2006! Are you as nervous as I am? I worry constantly.

I don't have much for symptoms. My grandma, mom, and sister never experienced m/s, and I haven't so far either. I used to-love coffee, but just seeing a coffee mug turns me right off! Totally sore boobs, some backache, exhaustion, and constantly being hungry are my symptoms. Other than that, I don't feel pregnant really. My expanding tummy is a nice reassurance though. Has your tummy started to pop a bit?

EOE - how do I politely decline a baby shower? I know people are excited for me, but after what I've been through, I feel like a baby shower will cause me anxiety. Also, I have people in my life who have primary and secondary infertility - I know all too well what it feels like getting those baby shower invites! My sis already bought me a shower gift, and I think is wanting to plan one. Is there even a polite way to say "no" to this?

rstein- ow, I hope you are right about me seeing a heartbeat. I just noticed your betas, your numbers were fantastic you almost quadrupled in 2 days. As for the baby shower, I would probably just tell people that you don't want a shower and that when it comes to introducing your little one people will be invited for a special personal visit as opposed to a group gathering. My family typically does a big family dinner whenever a baby is born. Have you told many people? We've told some close friends and my parents nut that's it. I want to wait until after the u/s shows all is well. I'm not sporting a bump yet nut my boobs are definitely fuller and I can see the veins under the skin. They are definitely getting more sore everyday. My nausea comes and goes and is definitely more noticeable when I am hungry, which happens much more during the day than usual. I'm not peeing more than usual tho. I worry a lot too, it sucks because I just want to enjoy this time, not constantly wondering if I'm still pregnant! Hopefully it passes and we can relax more.

Me 34 (28 when we did first IVF) DH 48 3 IVF's, 2 FET's, & 2 IUI's.  Still hoping for a baby at the end of the road.

Naomi - so sorry for your loss.

Mander, I'm also so sorry for the loss of twin b, but grateful that twin A is going strong.

TJ - I think everything is going to be just fine. It's hard not to analyze every little bit of information that is provided. But keep believing in your little one.

RS - I respect your choice to not have a shower and hope that you are able to find a way to communicate your wishes to your family so as not to hurt their feelings. I found with my DD, that although she was very much "ours" that the family and friends were just so excited that they couldn't resist celebrating as though she were their own. I was very grateful for my shower, simply because there were so many gifts that saved us so much money after all the treatments, but more so, because there were so many things that as new parents we didn't know to get, but our friends showed us the way. It was nice to truly celebrate. With that said, I'm not trying to push you towards accepting something you don't want in any way. Just sharing my experience.

Wishing everyone all the best for a healthy week filled with nausea, sore boobs and all the comforts of knowing your still pregnant :)

Good morning everyone- yesterday was an awful day. I was second guessing everything. My beta only went up to 5547 from 2737 3 days earlier so I'm fearing the worst. Today I am trying to focus on only the doubling time from beta 1 to 3 which is 57hours. I know the Internet says that after 1200 it can take as much as 72 hours to double and if that's true then I am still in normal range. I just have to wait until my u/s to know what's what. I still don't know when that will be. The clinic hasn't sent my requisition yet.

TJ - hopefully your requisition goes through soon and you can find some peace of mind somewhere along the line. I find it interesting how we all deal with numbers. Certainly with my first I was watching them, but I don't know that they ever made it over 1000 before we said all was good and walked away feeling we would be fine. With my second it was a surprise, I went it, did a beta is came back 2830 and that was good enough for me, I didn't even do a second. A strong number was all I needed for peace of mind. With this one, given that our first beta was 39, we did the 4 betas to ensure all was well, but even still our last beta was 513 when I walked away thinking all was good.

There are so many reasons we can worry and stress over pregnancy. There are a million reasons to be scared. But the one (two where twins apply) reason to not be scares is within you. Focus on our little one's ladies. Focus on believing in them and their choice to join you. Continue being great Mom's by taking good care of yourselves, getting lots of rest and protecting them. But give your mind and heart some peace and balance and just focus on the love and not the worry. It will help recharge your batteries and you'll feel better.

I personally eventually land in the mind set that everything is 50/50 when it comes to stats. It's either going to work out fine or it won't - that simple. So I focus on it being fine and enjoy my time while i have it. Having lost a pregnancy at 20w I don't know that there will ever be a point where I will be able to completely breath a sigh of relief, not until babe is in my arms. However, that won't stop me from enjoying every day we have together. It takes a lot of hard work, but I truly believe that our behaviour while pregnant will help reflect our behaviour as parents and the behaviour of our children. The more high strung we are, the more high strung they become.

AFM - we're at 9 weeks today. Although my energy levels showed signs of improving last week, I'm back to being the sleeping machine. Granted, I seem to have picked up a summer cold which isn't helping matters. Although today's biggest challenge has simply been to keep any food in. Every single thing that has gone in has come back out.... and not in any sort of gentle or dainty manner. It's been ridiculous.

TJ - your numbers sound absolutely fine! I do understand your fears, but I have a feeling all is well : )

DB - thank you for the words of encouragement. You're right - it'll work out or it won't. I may as well enjoy my time and cherish it. I am 9 weeks and 2 days today, and my energy levels are increasing.

AFM - trying to console and be there for a friend who is having difficulty conceiving. She married late in life and so egg quality is probably an issue. She cannot afford IVF, and me and 2 others at work confided in her about pregnancy. I know the hurt and jealousy that comes from that, so I really am not trying to talk about my pregnancy around her. Geez - I wish IVF were free. Why do just some of us deserve a shot?

EOE - I'm on my iPhone and can't scroll to see posts while I'm replying. I don't mean to ignore everyone!

Take care everyone,
Rissa

KristinaR - you posted same time I did. I was wondering about bras too. My 32B are getting a bit snug. Do we just buy bigger regular bras or mat bras? Ha ha - we are both so new to this.

Personally, I never did get m/s, which concerns my ob. However, my grandma, mom, and sister never got it either. I think you're just lucky if you don't get bad m/s.

Good morning,
Rstein- wow 9 weeks already!! that's fabulous.

Kristina - I'm not really experiencing much for morning sickness yet either, I feel gaggy in the morning and a few times throughout the day but for the most part I am okay. I have the odd day when it is worse but no throwing up. I also have no appetite, food just doesn't interest me at all. My other symptoms come and go as they please. My breasts lost all sensitivity 2 days ago and last night they returned. I don't really know if they've grown but they feel a little heavier. As for mat bras I would say go with whatever is comfortable. Some women aren't comfortable breaking into the mat clothes, bras etc untl the 2nd trimester but its a personal choice. I too have wondered about the pool but I worry about the prometrium leaking and I don't want to deal with that so I'm waiting until after I stop all that. In truth I'm also worried about infection even though I've never gotten one from the pool but the other day I was holding my friends newborn while she took her 2 year old in and I saw another woman that had her very young baby in the pool with no lil swimmer diaper and I thought oh what if she poops??? does chlorine kill that?? strange thoughts!

DB - I too am sorry for your past loss! I also just want to say that your voice of logic and reason is very reassuring to me. I find your calmness so wonderful and I am trying to work hard at not allowing my anxieties to continue plaguing me. You'd think I'd have learned to manage this, after all I am a therapist!! From yesterday on forward I plan to focus only on my little peanut snuggled inside and will deal with whatever comes if or when it comes. I can't stop a miscarriage from happening and worrying about it only makes me feel crappy so I vow to stop. I'm sure I will slip from time to time but I'm sure you ladies will keep me in line. lol.

Me 34 (28 when we did first IVF) DH 48 3 IVF's, 2 FET's, & 2 IUI's.  Still hoping for a baby at the end of the road.

Morning ladies.

Yesterday was an Über rough day on the MS front. Today isn't looking to be much better. I'm increasing the diclectin, but so far no relief. I fear another couple days of this and I may have to visit the local hospital for some rehydration. I'm all for some MS for comfort, but these severe stuff is for the birds. It happened with both my previous pregnancies and I stayed medicated the whole pregnancy for each. I'm hoping in another few weeks things might ease up a little. Keeping everything crossed.

As for the mat bras.... Yes, I'd recommend a maternity bra over just getting a new one at a bigger size. The breasts grow and fill differently while pregnant. You may notice that they're fuller on the side as they wrap around you. I'm pretty sure this has to do with all the glands that are getting ready etc. for nursing. The mat bras don't put pressure on the sides as much and overall are designed to support pregnancy boobs. They just get fuller and bigger as time goes on. With my first I went from a small b to a overflowing double dd while nursing. Granted, I'm a cow when it comes to milk production. Even after loosing Emmett at 20w, my milk came in full tilt (or tit lol) and I had to tape the girls down with tensor bandages and sports bras.

Also... it's likely the "will you breast feed?" question will start popping up soon as you start to tell people you're expecting. In my previous experiences there are some extremely passionate people when it comes to the topic of nursing and how important it is. So much so that they often leave women who have trouble nursing feel inadequate.

Breast feeding is extremely challenging for many people. It's not just a matter of placing baby to your chest and them eating and that being it. There is latch issues, flow issues, production issues etc. It can be a very high stress time for many people. For me, when ever I was asked my response was that I would try and if at any point it got to hard I would supplement with formula. Because my sanity was worth more. There are MANY formula fed babies who are perfectly fine. Nursing is NOT the end all and be all.

I don't want to put that into your heads to early to add another reason to stress. But more as an awareness thing so that you can start to think about what you think you might want. My "birth plan" is simple. Educate myself on what my options are so if I'm faced with a choice I can make an educated choice. Otherwise, go with the flow, keep it easy and relaxing and minimize stress at at given opportunity.

Wishing you all a wonderful day.

D

DesignerBug- we are in the same boat. I went to bed at 9 last night and then started throwing up at 10:30. This lasted until 3:45am and then a couple more times in the morning. It was a long, rough night. Called the clinic in the morning and the Doc wanted to see me. He put me on meds, let's pray that they work. If it doesn't he said I will need to go to the hospital for IV hydration because I can't keep anything down and am VERY dehydrated. See the Doc again on Friday.
I agree with the mild m/s for some reassurance, but this kind is brutal!! I don't wish it upon anyone - hoping that the meds work!!
