June/July IUI

I hope you are doing well and looking forward to the next step. I read over your stats, and I can relate on being worried for a low follicle count, my FE told me I have few follicles which will reduce our chances as well.. but the girls here keep telling me it's quality that counts, not quantity so let's keep our fingers crossed on that one!!!
I haven't had any problems getting pregnant, per say. We started trying in July 2011, got pregnant on the first try..only to find out it was ectopic (left tube removed) then we were given to go-ahead in December 2011 to start TTC again, and again got pregnant right away, only to find out it was another ectopic (after 10hrs in Emerg with severe pain due to a ruptured right tube) so both tubes are now gone and our only chance of conception is through IVF. We get 3 tries with OHIP coverage, and I am praying it works because I can't imagine the rest of my life without little ones running around!!!
I've never done IUI, and curious what it entails compared to IVF so keep me updated! Good luck and baby dust to you!
July, 2011 - Start TTC

January 1, 2012 - BFP!!
January 25, 2012 - Went to hospital with severe pain in lower abdomen. OB-gyn sets up emerency OR and removes right tube by laparoscopy surgery due to a 2nd ectopic pregnancy.
March, 2012 - Meet with specialist at Ottawa Fertility Centre
June, 2012 - Start IVF cycle # 1 Patch protocol. - BFN
September 2012 - Start IVF cycle # 2 Patch protocol - BFN
Aiming for 3rd cycle in February 2013.

Okay to start off my RE told be it only takes one to win
Mystelle getting married is a lot of fun enjoy every minute of it because it comes and goes pretty fast and then we will all help you through IVF!
Runnerchick...I have PCOS and have been trying 3 1/2 years, but I have only known about my condition for two years. I don't ovulate at all on my own even with 200mg or clomid and 2000mg of metformin (which is ALOT) Puregon is the only injection that has worked. I have done two cycles that made it to the actual IUI stage. First of all you will start your period and normally call in your Day 1. Around day 3 they have you come in for bloodwork and ultrasound and then you start stimulating either with clomid or injections. I didn't have to come back in until Day 9 for monitoring and then every day or every other day after that depending on how your folicles are growing. Once they are close to 2cm in size they will give you a hcg trigger shot and you will normally have the IUI 36hrs later (some clinics have different times). On IUI day your partner will go in early and about 3hrs later you go in to be inseminated. Its like a pap and HSG test. A nurse always does it for me and I didn't find it painful except when they are injecting the sperm (slight cramping). Then you stay lying down for 20-30mins. I then normally go home and go to bed for a couple of hours but I have friends that go right back to work.
My first cycle it took me 23 days to get to the trigger shot because my medication was too low at the start but then I had 3 folicles and my second IUI I was ready on day 12 like a normal person would if they ovulated on their own. My last IUI cycle they increase my dose and I produced 6 folicles on one side and 3 on the other and because my estrogen levels got too high too fast my body spontaneously ovulated before we could switch to IVF so it was cancelled. This is not really normal its because I have PCOS and its hard for them to stimulate and not over stimulate.
We live about 2- 2 1/2 hrs away from our clinic each way so My husband and I decided to go with IVF this round with a lot more monitoring so a cancelled cycle doesn't happen again (fingers crossed). If we were closer I would have given IUI a couple more attempts because it works and there are multiple girls in my support group that have had success on their first try!!!!!!
I hope this helps and good luck with everything!

Crystal, we also live 2.5 hours away from our clinic, which is one of the reasons we decided to try IUI first- it looked like less monitoring and driving than IVF did. From the info that the clinic gave me, it looks like I can call in on day 1, start clomid on day 3, and use the OP kit and call in results. Once I get a positive, we'll drive down the next day for the procedure. Thanks for all the info- it's always good to know ahead of time what things might be like. I hadn't considered that the procedure itself might be like the HSG, but if that's what it takes, then so be it! When will your IVF be?
Dandem, I will be thinking of you. It's scary to only have one tube open, but that may be all it takes. They are putting me on clomid (also goes by serophene). 100mg for 5 days, starting day 3. It's a pill, not an injectable. One thing you might want to ask your doctor is if you will have a wait time between trying your IUI and IVF. We were told there would be 2 months inbetween to clear the clomid from my system before starting the IVF drugs (if it comes to that).
Babydust, ladies- keep in touch!

I had my surgery yesterday. my RE couldn't remmove my tube so it was clamped instead. She also found moderate to severe endometriosis and treated a lot of it, but she couldn't get it all without effecting ovarian function. I'm not sure what that means in terms of our next steps. Is IUI still a viable option with that much endo?? my RE will be calling me today to see how I'm doing so I'll check with her then.

I had my HSG this morning- left tube was fine, but she couldn't get the right to spill. She thought it was more the angle of the catheter and cervix, and thinks it's "probably" open, seeing as it was a year and a half ago, so we are clear for IUI next cycle.

I am waiting to do my 3 day FSH test to see if I can move forward with my first IVF cycle. (should be in 4-6 days from now)
I just found out my tubes were blocked in January, and I think I have been dealing with it pretty well, all things considered.
But now I am getting super nervous that I may not be able to move forward. And maybe a little nervous of that fact that I might be starting so soon as well.
I got test results back yesterday that my AMH levels were not very good for my age, and this has added a whole new level of stress.
Just freaking out a little, and looking for a place to chat.

Got the results this morning that IUI#1 wasn't successful, waiting for AF to arrive so we can move on to IUI#2. Question for all the oral prometrium users, how long did it take for AF to arrive once you stopped taking them?

I had my post-op follow up today. My RE is still recommending trying a couple of IUI's before moving to IVF. The catch is that we can only do it on months that I O from the left. So here's hoping my body cooperates - not that it has in the past... Now I'm just waiting for AF to arrive so I can call in CD1. I'm on CD 6 and my cycles are around 30 days so it will be a while. We are probably looking at an IUI during the first week of July. I don't know exactly which drugs I will be on, just that I will be doing injectables.
Good luck everyone and looking forward to cycling with you

Sarah - that sucks about no drug coverage. I know for me my company covers $5000 per lifetime for fertility drugs. I am currently using Fermara, Ovidrel and Prometrium. The only drug that is being taken out of our fertility coverage is the Ovidrel as the Fermara and Prometrium can be used for other things.
Runnerchick - good luck! hope you get your + soon.

Hi I married in sept last year and found out I was pregnant, then miscarried at 10 weeks. Second miscarriage in my life, first when I was 19. I am now 38. Have been trying for 8 months, went to a fertility clinic and this am they said I had 6 follicles in left and 2 in the right.
Also to my shock my husband is low sperm at very little over 10 million
Any help with this as I have more tests next week
