I am new to these message boards and I wanted to find out about people experiences and success rates at Victoria Fertility Clinic. I live in Regina, Sk and we are planning for IVF in September at VFC. I have had appointments with Saskatoon but have chosen Victoria because we have family that live there. I have heard many successes out of Calgary but not much about Victoria. I would love to hear from those that have been successful there. As well, were any successful on the 1rst try. Did you genetically insert the sperm (ICSI) or the other method or both. I am not very good with the acronym people are using on their signature so any help on that would be great.

Here is a bit of my history. My husband and I have been trying for 4 years. It was a 1.5 year waitlist to get into a specialist. I had taken 5 months of clomid with no success. We had our first round of double dose clomid and IUI in May 2011. My HCG tested positive for pregnancy and continued to grow but they were unable to find the embryo in any ultrasound. After over 10 ultrasounds, my HCG was continuing to grow but still unable to see anything in an ultrasound. The Doctors were very concerned it was a tubular pregnancy and recommended Methotrexate. Toughest decision I have ever made but decided it was the best option at the time. 2 months later I was having side pain and the doctors thought I had a kidney stone. When I went in for the abdominal ultrasound they found the embryo in my abdomen. At this point my HCG was at 0, so I waited another 6 months to try again. In December, I tried my second cycle of double clomid and IUI. It was unsuccessful. After over 1 year on/off clomid we have decided not the use it again. The drugs really are horrible on my system and me in general. After doing our consultation with Dr. Hudson he recommended trying the IUI again before coming out for IVF. So I had my 1rst follicle tracking ultrasound today, 1 on right 2 small on left drug free. I was a little nervous about doing it without clomid but know it is the right decision for my body. If this round is unsuccessful we will be setting up the dates with Dr. Hudson at VFC for end of August beginning of September 2012. It has been a long and emotional roller coaster and I am concerned about having to do many cycles of IVF.

Hi Aquaerica,

As someone who is also unexplained, I feel like going to VFC was the best decision. I truly do believe that for those who are unexplained, Dr. Hudson will probably be one of the best REs in Canada for you. Not that I've seen many REs, but just from what I've been seeing on ivf.ca. and from my own personal experience.

I know that stats are different for each clinic, but Dr. H. will take on some of the most difficult cases when other clinics can no longer help that patient. I think because of this, its natural that his stats may be lower. Also, I do know that RFP's stats are not based on live births (unless they've changed that and made those stats avail.). I used to be a patient of RFP and for unexplained IF, I do believe that Dr. H. is the best RE for me because of his open minded approach to dealing with unexplained. I honestly don't believe RFP is the best clinic for unexplained, though one girl told me there is a younger RE there now who will prescribe medrol for unexplained IF.....so they are slowly getting there.

If you look at the pregnancy pals thread, you'll see many success stories from VFC. I'm not a success story yet, but I wanted to reply to your post and welcome you.

Also - Clomid does indeed suck. Have you ever had the dreaded "Clomid Rage?" Oh Lord - I had it each time, and I swear my body was possessed. I was just a miserable, mean bag of a woman! My poor hubby was even scared of me - lol.

Anyways - I wish you the best of luck!

Hi AquaErica..
II am originally from Regina but have been living out in Victoria for a few years......I have been with Dr. H for the past few years having done IUI's and IVFs. I like Dr. H's approach and he is always upfront and forthcoming with you. He say fertility is like a crap shoot and you roll the dice and have to see what comes up. This is not exact medicine and so many different variables. And no one can tell you how many cycles of IVF you might have to do. For my first 2 IVF's, one negative and one chemical pregnancy and with no embryos to freeze. Third cycle success and ended up with 5 embryos to freeze. So, I know this experience can be frustrating and have its ups and down and we just want that baby ......

And Dr. H will look at you and your husband's situation and recommend ICSI or not.....we did use it....

Good luck with everything.....and I heard it is going to be hot in Regina today!!
