Fingers crossed for you Sophiemarie! Sorry it seems the MFC thread isn't very active these days!

When I was at MFC I started with a couple of days of estrace after baseline u/s (depending on what day the u/s was) and then did a combo of Puregon + Menopur, adding on Orgalutran half way through stims to prevent ovulation.

Hopefully you get a good number of follicles at similar size today!

Thanks Nikki_att! I can tell you that my IVF cycle at MFC has costed me $7500 plus my meds. I don't know if there's other costs coming my way....I doubt it. Hopefully my beta blood work is also included as I don't have private insurance.

Hi mormac
Sadly medication is no longer covered in Quebec as of March 15th

Hey Nikki: so I paid 7500 for the Ivf and my meds were covered By ramq so I only paid about 120$ but after March 15th my meds would of cost almost 9000$ but that is because I was almost at egg retrieval when my body released the 3 Follicles that I had. the med to stop the ovulation didn't work so I had to start over. But if ur on a short protocol of just gonal f and Luveris with ovidrel it's still 5000.00

I stocked up as much as I could and will be donating whatever is left back to the clinic to help another couple. As I know that what I currently have is about 9,000 worth
It really is incredibly expensive and now with Ivf it's just becoming insane

Hopefully u are able to continue your journey

Pebbles: how are u?

Mmh, I haven't heard of him but looking him up he seems to have ties with CHUM? Maybe reach out to "Ewok". Her clinic used to be at the CHUM.
Good luck!

Hi everyone. I'm at the MFC and mentally preparing for IVF my next cycle. DH and i have been actively trying for about 16 months. I've had 4 medicated IUI cycles, 3 BFN, and waiting on this last 4th attempt. DH and i have unexplained infertility and have decided to move forward with IVF. I can't help but feel like the low % of success of IUI is a colossal waste of time as i have never had a BFP in my life. I would be lying if i said that i didn't feel discouraged, but i try to remain positive, and having a plan does help with the overwhelming anxiety of feeling like it's just never going to happen for us.

I really have nothing but positive things to say about the MFC. Dr M is honestly a pleasure to deal with. His sense of humor and bedside manner have made an enormous difference in this stressful process. He takes time to explain when i have questions and for me, that is truly priceless.

I am curious to know if any of you who have had IVF cycles have undergone hormone monitoring? In the US it seems like all fertility clinics do hormone monitoring for IUI as well as IVF. I suppose so much can go wrong if your hormones aren't at the right levels during the tww, so i am curious to know whether this is done leading up to IVF and following ER since so much $ is on the line. OVO claims that hormone monitoring is included in the cost of their IVF procedure.

Anyone have any information to share?

At MFC the only hormonal monitoring for ivf I got was at the last appointment before trigger, other than that only u/s, as nikki said. Did you do IUI with injectables? It ended up working for me- not at MFC though, but at McGill. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply ladies. I find it odd how different the practice here in Canada is compared to the United States. Clinics south of the border check hormone levels every couple of days to ensure everything is on track and adjust meds if needed.

I did all 4 IUI with Femera + Ovidrel, but the last 2 cycles with 5mg of Femara CD 2-7 vs the first two rounds with 2.5mg CD 3-6. The next logical step would be injectibles, however I have decided that if i am going to go the route of injectibles, i might as well go all the way with IVF as multiple more rounds @ 10% success rate (in my case with IUI according to doc) just doesn't seem reasonable for us. IVF should increase our odds to 50% a cycle.

nikki_att or anyone else looking for a cycle buddy, my first IVF cycle will start in about a week.

I am curious to know Pebbles what made you make the switch from McGill to MFC?

I wouldn't necessarily say Canada vs US. You might want to ask at other clinics in Mtl how they handle things. Also, through cutting of ivf funding clinics might end up with less patients and increased monitoring of the patients they have.

You can see details of my ivf journey on my "about me" page, but basically after many tries at MFC it was time for a second opinion and different embryology lab. I agree that Dr. M is very nice and I felt well taken care of, but I started wondering if their approach was too conservative.

Good luck for your cycling!

Thanks to you both nikki_att and Pebbles. I'll make sure to ask a lot of questions with this first cycle and consider changing clinics if am not satisfied with the answers i'm getting.

In the mean time i will ask around with friends at other clinics what their regular procedure is like.

Thanks again ladies!
