Hey Emily! My girls will be 5 months next week (3mos adjusted) and are pretty much on target for their 3 month milestones.

I'm struggling to keep them entertained now that they are awake more in the day. I'm trying to put them on a rotation of play mat, swing and bouncy seat (as well as baby dance party's!) but I wonder/worry that I'm not doing enough. I also want to balance one on one time with each baby for myself, DH, and 'sister time' where they are in close contact.

Any suggestions/strategies?

DH and I: 36-37
Married 2 years, together 8, trying the whole time!

DX: Tubal scarring from car accident @ 15yrs. One 100% blocked, 1 80% blocked. And due to age, low ovarian reserve.

DH's spermies are still swimmin away, no problems yay.

I wonder if I am doing enough all the time too. I often put both babies in one crib and let them watch their projection mobile which they love. We are also doing rocky road, where you bounce them on your knee, in addition to the swing, bouncy chairs, bumbo time, and belly time on our new big living room rug. I admit I don`t even get them out for walks as much as I would like, there always seems to be an excuse not to go, there is even an indoor track across town, and I need to lose some weight so I should be going more often..My boys aren`t really all that interested in each other yet, but I want to encourage them to interact, I`m hoping that they may entertain each other at some point, am I dreaming? I do think though that no matter how much we do it might never seem like enough, I`m sure you`re doing the best you can, it`s definitley not easy!

How much head control do they have? I thought you needed lots for the bumbo seat?

Hi ladies~

Deejay~ I found that the Bumbo encouraged neck strength. I have been putting my twins in them since they were about 3.5 months. Just for shot periods of time at first to get them used to it.

Is anyone using their Jolly jumper? Cheyenne loves hers and has gotten the hang of jumping in it! Too cute!

Deejay- My boys have been going in their Bumbos since around ? 4months or so. Their head control wasn't good at first but it's gotten alot better. To start we just tried 5 mins at a time.

Smc- We have a jumperoo, the boys liked it, but only for a few min. We recently moved it to the basement(storage) until they are done with the swing. We have a small two bedroom house, and no playroom, so there's not alot of room. Do you have the door frame one? When are you thinking about starting cereal? We keep saying we're going to but haven't. Chase is 16 lbs, and Carter(my once tiny sick boy) weighs over 18 lbs..How much are you little ones up to now?

DeeJay~ How did you get their adjusted age on your signature ticker?

There is a ticker specifically for preemies on lilypie.

That's good to know about the bumbo maybe helping with neck strength. I will start looking for one (or two!) on kijiji. No way am I paying full price for one! Or maybe grandma and grandpa will kick in for two. LOL. How long do they stay in them I wonder?

Ah, thanks, I will have to check it out, I missed it! It is so hard to keep track of their adjusted age, it will be helpful. The Bumbos are stupid expensive!!! We got both of ours as gifts thankfully! I didn't keep them in them for along at first. Usually 5-10 mins until they started really holding their heads up well now we do about 20mins or so. They work really well for babies with average length torsos but if your baby has a long body it doesn't support the neck well. William (my oldest, still tries to sit in his old one and fits pretty well still)

My nephew still uses his for feeding when not at home, and he's a big 7 month old, so for a while yet I guess. My gf got mine in the States, they're about half the price there. I've gotten some great deals on kijiji, currently looking for winter car seat covers, and 6-12 month Robeez...

We used our Bumbos a lot from 4 months to about 6-7 months. I even used to take them to music class with me. One could sit while I sang with the other, then I switched. I think it helped them learn how to sit on their own. I would definitely look on Craigslist. They are so expensive new and you use them for such a short time. Oh, and try to find the trays that attach to them. The boys liked sitting and playing with toys on the trays. I would have found them pretty useless without the trays.

Deejay- Any luck with the Bumbos?

Smc- How was DS's birthday? Curious how many kids you have at a 2 year old b-day party?

Are you guys planning to get the flu shot for yourselves and/or the babies? I work in healthcare so generally get one, and will get one this year. Dh was opposed but I told him to sure was getting it this year! I think we likely will get the flu shot for the boys, I especially worry about Carter, he has some ongoing health problems. We'll be getting 6 month shots soon so I'll ask my Dr too..

I started my 2 in the bumbos this past week! Liam struggled at first (he has a big head and long torso so he would always tip back) but Ava was great in it right away. And I have already noticed a difference in how well Liam can now hold himself!!!!!

Mine will be 4 months on Monday, 3 months adjusted! They are just starting to "play", i.e hold on to a rattle themselves and entertain themselves for a little while. Ava is rolling from front to back since about 3 months.

I also worry I don't do enough with them, but sometimes they just have to hang in the swing or bouncy chair cause I am home alone and I have to feed the other one or get some laundry done once in a while!!!!! Somedays are so crazy we get no tummy time in at all!

Nowhere near ready to start cereal. Liam moved up to 7oz this week (5 feeds a day) and Ava is still at 6oz...but her reflux is back with a vengance lately and she is spitting up more than ever so I usually have to squeeze a 6th feeding in for her. How much is everyone else's eating?

I keep thinking of more things to write, lol. How is naptime going in everyone's house? Terrible here! They want to sleep but hate their cribs during the day! So they fall asleep in the swing or bouncy chair. Sometimes it's so bad I have to take them out in the car and then they will sleep 2-3 hours in their car seats, which I doubt it "recommended" but otherwise they won't sleep and the evenings are brutal they are so cranky!!!!

I have been known to let my boys "hang" out in their cars seats for a few hours too,it doesn't happen much anymore, so enjoy it while it lasts. Usually it gives me time to get myself organized, do some housework. I figure it's no different than if we went on a longish car drive. The Nicu staff did mention to me something about 1 hr but I think it had something to do with head control..Carter sometimes "thinks" he's up for the day at 4 am, and spends a few hours in the swing, sometimes he goes back to sleep sometimes not.

Nap time can be hit or miss, they don't tend to nap much in the morning. Afternoons naps anywhere from 1.5- 3 hr, though yesterday Chase only napped for a half an hour. I don't really find if they sleep longer in the afternoon it affects there nighttime sleeping, so I let them sleep.

My Dh is home with me(we applied for dual EI) and I still feel the days are crazy busy so I can only imagine how busy you and Smc must be!

I think the 1hr car seat thing is more for newborns. I mean, people take roadtrips with kids in car seats all the time.

I wish hubby had EI with me, but with the cost of living in Ontario we definately could not afford to lose his salary too :(. I don't know how SMC does it with a 2 year old as well! She is my hero!

We are flying to Newfoundland tomorrow to have the babies baptized on Sunday. Really not looking forward to the flight with them and to top it off, we are all getting sick.

I've been reading to see if there are helpful ideas about activities that work with babies this young and thought I'd jump in here about the nap thing... I find that Calvin won't sleep very well or very long if I put him in the bassinette part of the pack n play, but he'll sleep for a much much longer time if I put him on my nursing pillow that I don't use for nursing anymore. It's really soft and comfy (I plan on keeping it around even after because it's really nice to lay on for me too!) and when he was first born and I was using it as a nursing pillow, I had the problem of him falling asleep the second he touched it :P Obviously I don't go too far away when he's on it since I guess it could be a suffocation risk... but it is nice to have somewhere to put him when I need him to sleep a little bit longer.

Mine is the Jolly Jumper Boomerang one and I didn't realize it was that expensive since I got it from a friend (BRU lists it at $60), but I'm sure there are soft ones in that shape that aren't specifically nursing pillows that would be cheaper, or you could find them on sale. It works much nicer as a baby support system than its intended use actually, because I found it too soft for that.

Dec 2010 Surprise natural BFP!
All betas and ultrasounds look great.
March 25 - 18 week u/s. Everything looks perfect. It's a boy!
He arrived on Sunday, August 21, 2011. I can't believe he's ours! So grateful.

We would like a second but it will have to happen naturally. Period returned July 2012.

Nov 2013 - BFP, but faint and bleeding a few days later. Beta 23 and then down to non-pregnant levels. Things are back to "normal", apparently.

We had the boys baptized Thanksgiving weekend, they were great, I was surprised. We aren't especially religious, but still wanted them baptized for some reason. I haven't been losing hair that I've noticed but I know a few ladies in my due date thread were complaining about it? Are you bf?

It's not easy with both of us on EI but so far we're making it work. He initialy took 2 weeks vacation when the boys were born, then was going to take 2 months leave, applied for dual EI and got approved. The "plan" is for him to go back after Christmas, but we'll see how things go in the next month..I quite like having him home though..I think he's approved to be off until May..

Has anyone started their Christmas shopping? I'm usually really on top of it, but haven't really gotten started yet...Probably won't get the boys a whole lot, a few new toys, clothes, and sleds I was thinking maybe..

Deejay- Any luck with the Bumbos?

We got one on Kijiji just today and so far Avery is loving it! Sydney doesn't have enough neck control yet, so I don't feel comfortable putting her in it, but it's just a matter of time!

I got my flu shot last week and DH will get his next week (we staggered in case one of us got a reaction). The girls aren't getting flu shots, but because they were preems, my ped recommends the RSV series this winter and we will be doing that. One shot a month Nov-March. At least it's an excuse to go in to the office in case I have questions. I also like to see their weights too. :)

They are slowly moving up in volume and down in number of feeds. I think they are averaging 5-6 a day. and 160-180mL.

Naptimes are generally good here, they are still sleeping quite a bit. I never try and put them in their cribs. They sleep in their bouncy chair/swing/playmat. I try and keep the crib and their room for sleeping, and they go down so easily at bedtime, I don't want to mess with that!

My Dh is home with me(we applied for dual EI) and I still feel the days are crazy busy so I can only imagine how busy you and Smc must be!

My DH is home with me too until January when he goes back. Money is super tight right now but we are in the home stretch. I'm starting to have anxiety about him going back, because he works out of town and he's gone for 4 days of the week. So it's going to be crazy around here when he goes back to work. Should be interesting! I'm thinking for my sanity to send them to daycare one day he is gone so I can decompress. I've already found someone who will take the girls for $35/day, so I want to get the girls used to her before I go back.

Because of money being tight we are not getting them much this year. They will not know the difference and have lots of grandparents willing to spoil, so we are good!!

Emily - no I am not breastfeeding anymore. I wonder if there is a correlation between that and hair loss.

Deejay - mine nap in their bouncy chair/swing too, or sometimes in the car seats if we are out and they are asleep when we get home. I just worry about the day they are too big for these things......might be tough to get them to nap in their crib then. When they were newborns I used to have them nap together in the playyard but they are too big to both nap comfortably in there now.

Mine are just getting used to the cribs, we only moved them from the bassinetts in our room to the nursery last Friday night. So this is night 7. I have to say, it didn't really affect their sleep much. If anything Ava has gotten better and Liam has remained the same! Thank God!

Wow I really missed a lot of posts some how!

Jules~ Have a safe trip! I am totally losing hair but not as bad as I did with William. With William it came out in huge clumps! I really lucked out that my little ones nap pretty well and sleep well at night, that is how I do it. Some days I go a little insane but I just have to keep reminding myself that tomorrow is a new day. All twins mom's are heroes! Did that bouncing chair help at all?

Emily~ William's b-day party was great! We did it much smaller than last year. Last year I think we had about 50+ people here this year we just invited friends not extended family so it was so much smaller (which was kind of nice because it wasn't as crazy). We did it at an indoor playground so we didn't have to worry about cleaning! I am not sure what I am going to do about the flu shot. I probably wont get it for me or the kids but I will discuss with the Dr on Monday when they go for their 6m needles. just think that they are already being poked 2x I don't know if I can bare add another :(

DeeJay~ I say if you can afford to have the kids at daycare once a week do it! It will be a sanity saver when DH is out of town. I was thinking about putting William in daycare once a week so that I could have some time with the twins and he could have some time with other kids but I am being cheap! lol

I know my guys are older :) . But that rsv shot that was mentioned is a good idea. While it doesn't prevent it, it helps them fight it. That is why it is once a month for the five months. Just to warn you though, it is a large needle. We had an awful doctor who tried to push it into their thigh very fast. Once, he put so much pressure, the needle popped off from the syringe. I was freaking mad. I almost discontinued it after that. I don't mean large in size, I mean in amount of syrum. I would have liked the knowledge of that going in. Good luck.

Hi ladies just wondering when your babies started to or if your babies are weight bearing? Austin is but Cheyenne is not, she wont even attempt it. I am a little worried I don't know if there is something wrong or if she is just being lazy
