congrats, our ET is tomorrow, were a little discouraged right now, we went from 8 on day 3 to only 4 now on day 4.  So hopefully we still have something left tomorrow.  not holding out much hope that we have any left to freeze at this point.  now we can see why a day 5 is better, if we did a day 3 we may have picked 2 or 3 emby's from the ones that didnt keep going.

Hello all-Just wanted to update.  We are here in Cancun!  Had our first appointment today with Dr. Gaytan.  He didn't seem worried that my period hasn't started yet.  we started the medication today and will go back Monday to get the estradiol test and check the med amounts.

A couple of silly questions.  Did anyone stay in Carisa y Palma?  Do they have maid service?  What about the towels-do we go ahead and wash those with our  laundry?  How much did you all tip Esteban and was it each time or at the end of your stay?

Also, Surfin Burrito was FABULOUS. Went to a Fodor recommended place tonight called Labna that was only so-so for me.  Rode the bus to Walmart and then later to El Centro where we accidentally found ourselves in a park for a big celebration of Cancun's 43rd birthday.  Very cool-all kinds of dancers, bounce castle, little cars the kids could drive, street vendors etc.  So cool to see-especially because it was a local celebration.  Our 6 year old LOVED it-especially the dancers. Will update more as we go!

Hi everyone!

Just sitting here doing my 4am feed and thought of check in. So much happening. I'm on my phone so will do personals later on so I can scroll back a page.

Bookwormommy - yay for being in Cancun! Best of luck and can't wait to read about your experience. Also, yes Surfin Burrito is awesome. So happy you went and enjoyed it, I know I recommended it a couple pages back!! Owned by a Cdn fellow:)
Tycoz is also pretty good, and priced well :)

Again I'll recommend a restaurant in el centro - La Troje. Honestly, VERY good food at a very reasonable price. I think there's a 15% discount on Tuesday or Wednesday as well. We eat there at least once a week.

Okay we'll ill be back for personals :)

Carisa y Palma has maid service 1 time during your 2 week stay. We ended up buying some extra hand towels and left them there. We also washed some of the towels with our laundry service. If you haven't seen already there is a laundrymat just on the other side of the flee market next to the McDonalds.

We would tip Esteban every couple of times (sometimes we were out the door & forgot to even grab money knowing we were coming right back to the condo after our appointment). Usually just 20 to 50 pesos, more when we had him make a 2nd stop on the way back.

Lqqkn, angela1911, star921 Thank you so much for all the pointers!! They've been extremely helpful.

Based on your opinions we decided to stay at beachscape but would also like to splurge a little by staying at an all inclusive for our last 4-5 days. We are also going on a budget.... Any recommendations on resorts with good location, food, and relaxed ambience but not too pricey? Here are the ones we're considering: Royal Solaris, Oasis Cancun, Bacelo Costa Cancun, Pak Royal Cancun, Grand Oasis, and GR Solaris Cancun (order by price).

This second question maybe obvious but ill ask it anyways. Should we exchange currency here (California) for pesos, wait to exchange in Mexico, or are US dollars ok?

Snobaby- thank you for sharing =) very encouraging to here. Congrats on your BFP!! Fingers crossed for everyone down in cancun now..... Hope all is going well! ** Sticky Vibes and prayers **

I have been thinking of Mia as well...

SP, how are you? When is your CS? You must be getting close now.

Angela and Bill, I hope your transfer went well today! Thinking of you both.

BWM, yay for being on Cancun! Woot woot! We didn't have pesos, we used dollars and tipped our driver $2 for a round trip. But we spent a lot in tips since we stayed at an all inclusive.

Lauren, how's your little angel?

Lali, FX for you!

Ajmena, we stayed at the GR Caribe by Solaris and I highly recommend it. It is the upgrade from the Royal Solaris and well worth it if you can afford it. We were spoiled rotten by the staff. You get use of the Solaris next door which is a bigger and much louder. We didn't go over there to much as we loved the quieter and more personal atmosphere of the Caribe. The food was amazing, but it was also pretty good at the Solaris. We didn't like the buffet at the Solaris though.

To everybody else, I am sending sticky vibes to you all!

Hi all-thanks for the tips.  Ellemar, I so appreciate food recommendations as we often plan our days around where we plan to eat. ;) Today we attempted to go to La Troje, but it was closed (we forgot to check their hours!)  Of course, it was hot as could be and we got lost trying to walk somewhere to eat, but eventually we rounded a corner and found the cutest place with amazing juices and smoothies.  The food and service were also good.  They were nice enough to call us a cab at the end, too so we could get back to our condo.  We will never find it again, but if you are in El Centro, Marakame is very good!

Issue with ivfmeds.com

I ordered my meds with them on 04/15 & they told me that the meds will be mailed out by 05/20. I have been trying to call them since last 3 days to find status of my order but it goes on VM all the time.

Did anyone face similar kind of issues with them? I also paid extra for faster shipping.

Add the golden parnassus to the list.  adults only.  no food reservations, al carte.  great way to finish it out.  some of the best food i've had at an all inclusive.   visited a friend at the grand oasis, it was young kids party spring break central.  us dollars are fine, but use peso's and just wait to hit the bank atms there.  there all over the place, you will get the best rates.  dont use the green tourist ones with large fees.  (dont forget to tell your bank your travelling)

i could never recommend IVFmeds based on our experience.  They also charge 100$ for an expedite that ivfpharmacy only charges 25$ for and they ship next day.  both only use usps express which is like 20 to 25$.  IVFmeds just marks it up to rip you off.   they were better at replying to emails and would call back the next morning.

And everything went great with angela, we still had 4 left on day 5, transferred 2, froze 2. then went straight to the airport, where it got stressful from there.  we changed our flights from morning to evening, and they only re-booked her flight not mine.  luckily after an hour of fighting i got a ticket out with her.

edited = just found out we only have 1 know left to freeze?  should we even bother with  60% success of embroys surviving a defrost? (or whatever its called)

Hi everyone!! I've been following this blog for some time but never posted. Congrats to everyone with BFP's. I Hope you don't mind me joining your conversations but we're also heading down to FCC on May 15th!!! Can't wait and excited and anxious at the same time

We did not go through Sherri but another facilitator who has been wonderful. Does anyone know anything about beachscape kin ha resort/hotel? They offered us good rates for a 1 brm suite with full kitchen there but hear its a bit old and outdated..... Wondering if renting a condo through an owner might be better, any thoughts?

Also, clinic transportation is not included for us (except first appointment) are we better off renting a car for full 3 wks? Are taxis pricey? Or is the clinic easily accessible by bus? Thank you for any insights you could share!

Ajmena,

I also went to Beachscape Kin Ha through Mark.  I think expectations are key with Beachscape.  It has a beautiful beach...softest sand ever and very calm.  If you want to see the waves, take a quick walk down the beach and around the corner.  The people working were always friendly, with varying levels of English-speaking abilities, but enough to get by (plus I don't expect people to be perfect with English when I'm in Mexico!!)  We enjoyed the peacefulness of Beachscape as it's a little distance from the big party areas.  The rooms are a BIT outdated...we stayed in a 1 bdrm suite and it was basically a hotel room with a 2 burner stove, mini-fridge, microwave, and sink (with some cooking utensils) right across from the bed.  Our room didn't have a table or chairs to sit and eat at (not sure if this is true of all rooms) but there were plastic chairs out on the balcony, so we often sat outside to eat.  It turned out to be perfectly adequate for our needs.  We cooked a LOT because we were on a budget.  We probably only ate out 5-6 times during out 16-day stay.

We did not go to Walmart for groceries, as we thought the selection at Chedraui (not sure I'm spelling that right) was perfectly adequate and we loved being able to get a package of fresh tortillas there!  There were multiple locations, one in a mall (by taking bus 27 from the hotel zone to Plaza Los Americas...this bus comes VERY infrequently though and the wait can be quite annoying) and another right downtown and accessible by both the 1 and 2 buses (I think if you google map you'll be able to find it...knowing the cross streets was handy)

As far as transportation to the clinic, it's a little tricky and depends on your comfort level.  We mostly used a combination of buses and walking, but on retrieval and transfer day, we splurged for a cab.  Cabs to and from the hotel zone run about $10 US each way, where the bus is only 50 cents!  But none of the buses get you all that close.  I think the best option (the 27, which gets you just a little past the mall) then requires about a mile walk.  We enjoyed the walk and just being outside in mexico (versus Pennsylvania in November) but I know that kind of walk isn't for everyone.  Another option would be to take any of the buses to downtown and then take a cab from there (likely to be much cheaper than in the hotel zone).

Feel free to send me a message with any questions about Beachscape or transportation.  I'm happy to share some info with google maps as well...I always felt better with a visual of where I had to go!  We enjoyed our stay there.  When I went back for my FET, I went alone and only stayed for 2 days, so I just stayed at a cheap hotel near the clinic, but I missed the relaxing beach at Beachscape for sure!

We lucked out I guess becasue our room had a kitchen, the whole suite was huge..dated definately. But it is Mexico and the beach more than made up for it.. When we go back for FET more than likely we will stay there again.

When we go back for FET more than likely we will stay there again.

ajmena- if you are staying all-inclusive then US dollars are ok if you dont want to get pesos. BUT when staying at Beachscape this was our first trip I actually wished I had brought pesos instead. So we went and got pesos when we were there.

nutella-I know that angela had troubles with IVF.ca but my experience was good. I ordered my meds on April 5th and received them by the 18th. I had wrote tht my scheduled cycle was the 26th even though it wasnt anymore but figured what the heck this way  I am not forgotten about and dont have the same issue as angela. SO they called me to clarify my med order becuase the script said 80 patches and I only ordered 40 (the dose was double the strength) and then she recommended that I pay an extra 50.00 for expedited shipping and I kindly refused and said I will take my chance. She was very kind and said if I dont receive an email in one week saying they have been shipped then I should call back But I got the email and pleasantly suprised on how fast my order got to me in Canada. For once something went right.. now if AF would freakin show up I would be much happier......

For the ladies staying in Sheri's condo, are there cooking utensils and such? How big is the refrigerator? What are some examples of meals y'all cooked easily while you were there? Is there a coffee pot?

Hi!  We are in Sheri's Condo at Carisa Y Palma.  There is a nice big fridge, utensils and a few pans, including a tortilla pan, hand towels, sponges microwave, 2 burner stove, coffee pot, toaster, a big water cooler, and blender.  We made black bean tacos, smoothies, had fresh fruit and yogurt, cereal, granola, chips and salsa.  So mostly breakfast and snacks so far but it's only been a few days.

Okay-so assumse some/most/all of you had to deal with reservations of your family members.

I don't have any reservations, but I had a family member who was concerned about protocols in place. They were actually concerned that the sperm/eggs would get switched. How do I even respond to that? I think it is silly, but I would like my family to feel comfortable. Need help approaching the situation.
