Willbemommy, it's both. You're 5 weeks pregnant and you're starting your 6th week. It's like when a kid turns one and then they're in their second year but not 2 until the end of that year. At least that's my understanding of it, make sense? And welcome!

Your understanding is right but she is due Oct 21 - check the ER date.

I was taking diclectin before - it's safe but you need a prescription. And it's good to have it when you need it.

Based on the HR the doctor could predict if it's a boy or a girl.

Thank you Meggg and hopingtobe3! The website really helps, I even forwarded it to my hubby. Btw, how are your husbands dealing with early pregnancy? I would like to include my DH more since it seams that it didn't hit him yet and he says that he is scared...what did you do get them more relaxed and not afraid to be excited?

Congrats to Laura and TCM for their wonderful news yesterday. Laura, I wonder what would make the doc thing it's a boy. Seems like a pretty risky thing to say to someone given that he's only got a 50/50 chance of being right this early!!

AFM my general queasiness has now been upgraded to nausea. No vomiting (yet) but feeling really gross. I was reading up on diclectin last night and it seems safe but I'm still nervous about asking for it. No drug is 100% safe. My naturopath said to try vitamin B1 and B6 (and B6 is half of the ingredients of diclectin) so I'm going to go to the drug store and pick those up and try them first. Oh, And it's THursday so now I'm officially 6 weeks!!!

Yes I've heard this 'wives tale' but there's no evidence to support it so I'm surprised a doctor would be quoting it.

I haven't had any nausea yet, but I almost want it so I can feel like things are a little more real than they are. I just want something, anything, to make this whole thing that seems like a dream, more realistic, even if it's nausea!

Hey ladies,
I found this website talking about gender prediction based on location of the placenta on the ultrasounds http://thestir.cafem...the_sex_of_your
It's probably not too scientific either but just for fun since we all have ultrasounds coming up it might be good to pay attention (or ask) about the location.
And for those who already had theirs do you remember being told if the placenta was on the right or left?

Adry - well looks like u and I are in the same boat! I to wake up every night at 3am with crazy nausea. It lasts until around 5ish then it seems like a blink and the alarm is going off. By 2pm I'm ready to call it a day.
Sometimes the nausea comes back through the day as well. Mix that with heartburn. No complaints. Hoping it means only good things of what's going on in there. I've never wanted a long weekend to go by so fast as I have this one...bring on Tuesdays u/s.

adlovesma - sorry to hear that you had a scare but great that you were able to be seen right away and see your little bean doing great.

AFM - I'm pretty much nauseous 24/7 which really sucks. I have to force myself to eat and drink when I really don't feel like it. I'm trying some extra B6on the recommendation of my naturopath and if that doesn't work I'll consider the diclectin. I'm usually super tired in the morning and early afternoon but then start waking up. By bedtime I'm tired but completely awake and haven't been falling asleep until 1 or later most days. And then I'll wake up a few times in the middle of the night which is unusual for me. It sucks 'cause I know my body needs rest but I can't seem to get the sleep I need. :(

Hi ladies,

Glad to hear the recent u/s are going well!
For nausea at 3am - try eating something right before bed. Bread and peanut butter works for me. Crackers and cheese also good. The key is not to let your stomach get empty.

I have to agree with Hoping - there's no evidence to support gender based on heart rate. That's an old wives tale. Tad irresponsible of a doctor to make predictions I think. I checked out the placenta site and if there's any weight to that I'm having a girl. That's my gut feeling anyway, so we'll see!

Now that I've had the 7wk u/s we've told our immediate family, siblings and parents. Next u/s is at 9wks and then we'll go public.

Willbe - your DH will probably feel more excited once you guys start sharing the news. Maybe you can get him to rub your tummy at night or kiss the baby goodnight. Something so he feels like he's connecting. Or maybe a book for expecting fathers.....there must be such a thing out there.

Cheers!

TCM - you are totally right about not letting your stomach get empty. Last night I was laying in bed around 11pm and couldn't fall asleep because of my tummy growling with hunger so I had a piece of toast and jam and I woke up at 5 am instead of 3 with only mild nauseau this time. I'm hoping that's what it is. This afternoon I was SO hungry for lunch and I know I let myself get too hungry and now I'm paying for it with nausea.

Thanks for the tips!

Ladies, it's completly different for me. Previous time I was pregnant I was so hungry and food helped for the nausea (that's why I gained 45 pounds). This time I couldn't eat... and if I eat after that the nausea starts.
I'm very sleepy and tired .. that is exactly the same like before.

Hi Mama's!! can I join your group?

I just found out last Friday I was pregnant and it was such a surprise as I thought I had a BFN! I only got my positive 17 dpiui which is quite late compared to so many others. I even got my "period" and had taken so many tests and they were all negative so I called the clinic and went and got my baseline u/s done for the next round! The only req I had was the one with the HCG test on it so did that before the u/s and then after I was given the all clear to start again went and bought my injectibles again and went home to put them in the fridge when the nurse called and said not to start taking them as the blood test came back and I was in fact pregnant! I rished out to buy more HPT's and this time they all came back positive!

I had my first beta at 54 on that Friday and then on the Monday morning it was 167. I go tomorrow for another beta (I can't wait to get it done) and my u/s is already booked for March 2nd. I wasn't feeling any symptoms the last 2 days so went and bought more tests and got the digital ones this time and they still say pregnant so I can breathe again!!

I am so happy to have found this thread as everything I have been saying in my head is exactly what you ladies have been writing!!! I am over analyzing every twinge etc.

I too have DR.M at the Edmonton clinic!

Trying to conceive since 2007.

Welcome and congrats to our new members!

I found this cool website that's a FAQ list for all the questions we might have about whether or not something (exercise, herbal tea, sex etc.) is safe while pregnant. http://www.babycenter.com/is-it-safe

I'm guessing that a lot of us are probably surfing the web lately on everything pregnancy related and it might be nice to share some of our favourite websites.

This is a cool site called the visible embryo that has some interesting graphics and info about baby's development: http://www.visembryo...cytimeline.html
And this also looks interesting - it's the top 100 pregnancy articles on the pregnancy and baby website; http://pregnancyandb...m/pregnancy.htm

Feb - Oct 2010 - 4 unmedicated IUI's, 2 medicated IUI's with clomid - all BFN

Sept 2010 - surgery for uterine polyp

2011 - successful IVF, welcomed baby boy
