Hi All. Sorry I have been MIA. Weston John was born on Sept 7. I ended up getting an infection that hit fast. I started throwing up and my fever went from 37.1 to 38 in less than 30 minutes, then I started shaking. I was delivered within 2 hours of arrival. It was a little scary because Weston's heartrate was a little low before they delivered me. He was really hot when he came out and his APGARs were 3 and 4. Because I was 35 weeks, and the infection, he went to NICU. He had a little trouble breathing, so they put him on oxygen for about 12 hours, he was a little jaundice, so we went under the lights twice. He is a really good feeder, from both breast and bottle. Today he came home!!!! We are so happy to have him home. I am in pain a little from the c-section and unfortunately today the incision became infected, so I am now on antibiotics for a week.
Me 29 DH 30
DD - born August 3, 2006 at 36.5 weeks, after 4 cycles of Clomid

Apr 07 - Diagnosed with severe hyperthyroidism
Oct 07 - Took radioactive iodine as Dr said it was the only way to have another baby
Jul 08 - Finally got thyroid regulated and given go ahead to start trying, began first cycle of Clomid
Oct 08 - 3rd cycle of Clomid got positive test, but levels shortly began to fall. m/c on my birthday
May 09 - 6th cycle of Clomid got positive test, levels were not doubling, dr put me on Progesterone. m/c at 6 weeks. 3 weeks later ended up having to have d&c as was still bleeding
Dec 09 - after 8 Clomid cycles OBGYN said he would not do anything else until I went to ARTUS
May 10 - appt with Dr Case went great.
Oct 10 - IUI cycle. Had elevated LH levels and a huge LH surge. Ended up ovulating on my own. BFN

Jan 11 - Going to do IVF

I AM PREGNANT!!!!

WE ARE HAVING A BOY!!! HE IS DUE OCTOBER 12!!!

Jun 6 - Diagnosed with mild placenta previa after started bleeding - off work until after maternity leave
Jul 31 - Back to hospital after A LOT of bleeding. Previa is now full previa.

C-Section is scheduled for Sept 19, as long as there is no more bleeding. I'll be 36 weeks 5 days.

Thank you all for your replies on c-sections, unfortunately I was not able to read them before I had mine! Sept. 1st, the home nurse was supposed to come but never showed up. After a few calls to the hospital, I found out that I was considered too high a risk to have the home nurse and that I needed to go to the hospital for screening. So, I went to the hospital at 1:30pm. Everything looked fine again and just before the nurse was about to let me go make my appt for the next day and rest of the week, my OB popped in to see me as he was on rounds. He then told me that I would be having the baby today! I thought he was joking and started to laugh. We were in the middle of renos at home. He said had he known (not sure why he didn't) that my levels were at 2.4, he would have done the section on the monday (August 29th!). My hubby was still at home, so after some begging, my OB gave me an hour to run home, shower grab hubby and come back. We had our baby delivered by c-section at 8:27 pm that night. We had a beautiful little girl!!! We welcomed Lydia at 4 lbs, 10 oz and 35 weeks plus 2 days. She looked good but then they took her to the Neonatal (NICU) to be assessed. Long story short, it was a roller coaster ride for the next 13 days while she stayed there, in and out of incubators. I cried lots, tears of joy, fear, exhaustion...you name it!

I cannot even express how wonderful it is to be a mom. I just love it. We've been home now for 2 days and she is doing well. She was discharged at 4lbs 6oz and we're hoping that she'll gain fast. I'm breastfeeding and topping her up with a bottle of my milk.

As for the C-section, it went so well and because of having to go see your baby in the next unit, I think I healed faster. I am feeling great and moving around with very little discomfort. I can sleep on my side now and I'm looking forward to sleeping on my stomach. I have many more emails to write so I should go. I will be back though! Keep hanging in there ladies! I can't wait to hear about your deliveries and more importantly your babes!

Wow! Lots of news! Congratulations Laura and Robin's Egg!! I guess we will be hearing more and more birth stories as October approaches, I can't wait! These are pretty dramatic though. Glad you all doing well and the babies too.

Poor K...hope he gains a bit of weight so his procedures can go ahead. I hope you are doing ok with so much worry about the ups and downs of his condition. Thinking of you.

AFM - babies are doing well. M is doing really well, he's not in a small crib! his fourth and final bed transfer until he's discharged. He's on bottle feeding trials as well. K isn't doing as well as his brother but he's a fighter and still gaining weight which makes us happy, though I doubt he'll come home at the same time as his brother sadly and could very possibly even stay in NICU until Dec :( sucks but i'm confident he'll be home in time for xmas. If only one baby comes home I'm not sure how that affects my mat leave....

How is everyone doing? Anyone else going a bit nuts with anticipation? This last couple of weeks seems to be dragging for me, and I'm so excited for signs of labour. I have 12 days to go until my due date. This week I had another ultrasound because my midwife was concerned about the baby's small size again. The u/s showed that her growth has slowed down, she is now at about the 10th percentile, and so there is a possibility that I will be induced if she drops to the 3rd percentile. I have to go for weekly u/s to keep an eye on it. My midwife also did a 'stretch and sweep' at my appointment yesterday to get things moving, so that in case I am induced it goes more smoothly. This was a pretty painful procedure, and they will be doing it every week from now on. I'm also inserting evening primrose oil at night to soften the cervix.

Flavah - I believe that mat leave starts on the day your baby(ies) are born, I don't think it's related to when they're released. I had a friend who delivered about 2 months early and she had to go back when he was 10 mo. old.
Great to hear that they're doing better!!

Congrats to Robins Egg and Laura as well on their precious arrivals! How are your little munchkins doing these days?

I do agree that we need some less dramatic stories on here!!

Taitertot - Sorry to hear that your ultrasound showed a drop in growth. I'm sure that the baby is doing fine, she'll just be a wee little bean. Once you have her out you can work on fattening her up and I'm sure she'll be on track in no time. It's good that they're keeping a close eye on the two of you and will step in if necessary.

AFM - baby is still breech and we now have a scheduled c-section at 39 weeks. I'm trying not to get too freaked out by the whole 'sliced in half' and all of the real risks that come with major surgery but every once and a while my mind does go there. I'm just so anxious to get this done and meet my little man but the rest of it (surgery, recovery, etc) is pretty overwhelming.

Hoping everyone else is doing well.

I haven't been part of this thread before, but should have been all along! Sorry to bust in now, but I have read all your posts, and can't believe that even after the struggles of IF you have indured even more heart ache and stress! I hope that we all can be stress free, or at least less stress medically speaking. Of course as parents there always is some form of frustration or stress, but knowing we are with our dreams come true, it is all worth it!

I have three fellow OFC'ers here too that I want to read updates on,...Flavah, Hopingtobe and Taitertot!

I am due October 30th, but because of my past c-section and age(just turned 40 on the 8th) I booked a date with my OB to have another section if this little girl doesn't come out naturally before then! I am going to try and do everything to have a VBAC, but at the same time I won't be terribly surprised if my body doesn't agree with me and I go in on the 24th. My 10th Anniversary is on Oct 27th, so I would like to be home for that, or at least I will be home for hallowe'en! This is my 2nd IVF pregnancy....I have a very busy 2 1/2yr old son from my 1st IVF back in '08. I will be officially done with being pregnant as I have the full family I never thought I would have!
My last day of work is in less than 2wks and I am stoked to finally get some rest and relaxation before the baby comes. At least the nursery is more or less ready, Just waiting for hubby to put all the computer stuff in the basement so Ryan's new furniture can be put in his new room! We got a 4pc bedroom set for 599.99 @Sears, and the best part, its a captains bed complete with shelving in the headboard and drawers for storage as part of the bed itself! He is going to feel like such a lucky boy! Just want to get a few nick nacks to make his room feel like his! The basement is painted, so its just a matter of hauling all of hubby's crap down!

Taitertot...I had 2 ongoing nightmares during my last month of my first pregnancy. The first one is rather funny, and common for first time parents to have fears of: I dreamt that we were on our way home from QCH on Hunt Club only to finally notice that Ryan wasn't in the backseat....we must have left him in the baby carrier on my hospital bed. We drove over the median and drove back along HuntClub back to the hospital only to be stopped by police for driving recklessly(going over the median), but after telling him what we did by accident, he was nice enough to escort us back to the hospital to grab our new son!!
My other nightmare was with regards to my in-laws(my husband is Chinese). I dreamt that they hired "certain professional kidnappers" from CHina to kidnap our newborn son(a rarity in China, as they are predominantly girls) and sold him to the highest bidder! I don't have that fear anymore, but I don't trust them alone with Ryan, for more reasons than I can list here! So it is quite common to have nightmares of various sorts during this time of hormonal, maternal instincts kicking in and so on!! I hope you don't go overdue, but at the same time its quite common to do so with your first. I was induced with Ryan on the 8th day past, and he came out on the 9th day! Ask your OB/midwife, how far they will want you to go before inducing, but I hope its not past 10 as complications can arise @41 and even more at 42wks gestation!

Flavah.... Congrats on the arrival of your twins M & K. I am glad to here M is thriving, but K needs special attention. I wish him all the best and strength for all the tests and surgeries that await him, but you have the best care at CHEO!! About the MAT leave, when did you contact work about having to go in hospital to have the twins?? I would think that it would be the day you didn't go into work, and not the day the twins were born that the MAT leave would start, so you have a year from that date! Its not necessarily based on the date of your twins birth. A colleague of mine who had her son @31wks was due back to work on Jan 30th, that is the day she went into the hospital and told work she would be delivering!

Laura...Congrats on the arrival of Lydia. Glad to hear that you are healing nicely and rather quickly from your section. I can't wait to sleep on my back and stomach...what a dream that will be. I am going to practise rolling out of bed, so I am a pro when LO comes. It is rather amazing to find out what we use our abs for, and getting out of bed was a real beeeeotch the last time. I want to have a clean and comfortable way of getting out of bed when the time comes!! One thing I did like about having a section....when my hubby wasn't around, I got lots of sleep in while Ryan was in the nursery getting his sleep! I think that too helped with my speedy recovery, My mother is coming up to stay with Ryan while I am in the hospital, so she will visit me in the hospital and I will have the LO in the room with me more during the day, so I will walk around the unit more. Not that there is much to walk around, but laps will help, as well as getting out of the room! There is always pluses along with the minus of a longer recovery!

Robin's Egg.....Oh my you have been thru so much, but I am happy to hear of Weston's arrival.

Support Seeker.....Hey, if you have the time and the patience to do cloth, go right ahead, I admire you for that much. But reading FrostedLemon's post should be enough to make you think harder about that. Try them, but I doubt it will last. I have no patience or time to even think about what I would have had to do with Cloth, Disposables are cheaper in the long run, and far more convenient to deal with(and less time consuming) than cloth. Ok, the environment does make a strong valid point, but is the environment going to do your laundry and fold it when its done??? NOPE!! You have to do what's best for you and your little one! If you find that cloth is not that bad of a deal, than stick with it. My sister was totally against disposables and paid the small fortune for a diaper service....that lasted a week! After that she went disposable and we all laughed, because we thought she was nuts even thinking about cloth!!!
The only research I had to do about diapers was which ones were best, Huggies or Pampers. Pampers are widely used in hospitals, and that was good enough for us....Pampers all the way. Everytime Ryan comes home with Huggies, he is either already wet/leaked, or will be wet far sooner than he is when wearing Pampers!!

Hopingtobe...Can't wait to hear about the arrival of your little one!

I have an ob appt this Tuesday and I have to ask if I can get a pedicure done. Some hospitals won't allow for that as they want to see your nails in case something goes wrong. I had my nails done the last time, and not a peep was mentioned, but that was my fingers....toe nails are apparently more important to look at in times of trouble! I am going to ask in case, as I have a pedi date with my mom the day before I am due! I am also going to ask that if I recover well from surgery and my staples/stitiches come out on the 3rd day, to see if I can go home that same day! My fourth day was rather a waste of time, so I am hoping to make it a short stay this time around!

hopingtobe3 - actually I called EI and if you can prove that the babies are going to be in the hospital for x days/weeks, they won't start your mat leave until you have your baby(ies) home with you. So I got the neonatologist in the NICU to write me up a letter and sign it saying babies won't be home until Nov 6 and if that changes, i would let EI know. So I'll be going back to work when babies are technically 14 months old. :)

Katiekins27 - I haven't been at work since early May. I was put on bed rest because I had a partial placenta previa with K that eventually turned into a complete previa :( I was on sick leave and still am (recovering from c section), when babies were born, I let work know but my work told me since I get topped up from EI (feds) they will follow what EI says and EI is going to delay starting my mat leave until my original due date (NOv 6) since I sent them a letter from the NICU from the docs saying babies are hospitalized and won't be home until then. So I'm on sick leave until then I guess. As for the pedi, I've never heard of that I had my toes and hands done for my c section i'm sure you'll be fine! Good luck with everything!!! WHo did you have at OFC as a doc? I was with Dr. S.

AFM - I'm doing great, driving again and loving my independence WOO! No more relying on others finally after 4 months! Going for my OB 6w check up on Friday I'm sure i'll be cleared to return to regular activities. M is doing wonderful, the nurses have begun teaching him how to bottle feed, I got to do it on Friday night loved it! He wasn't able to take much as he's still learning the whole coordination behind sucking, breathing and swallowing but it will come as he grows they say. K is still struggling with his weight and he just finished his antibiotics for his infection, b/c he's still not gaining as much as they'd like, they are going ahead with the PDA (type of heart murmur) surgery at CHEO on Wed so he's being transferred there on Monday sometime. Pls keep him in your thoughts! I know they say it's a pretty routine surgery for preemies but as a mother I can't help but worry for the little guy

Flavah - how did K's surgery go? Hope all is well.

AFM, happy to know for sure that baby is head down! After weeks of my midwives digging around in my pelvis (ouch!), I finally had a vaginal exam yesterday and she said it was definitely the head! I'm 37 weeks tomorrow so happy to hear that. Otherwise, no much new here - just waiting for Junior!

Good news JKaren! I'm also hoping that K's heart surgery went well.

I've now had two 'stretch and sweeps' (and another planned for Saturday) which have both been quite painful and have really made me confront the pain of childbirth head on. My midwife told me that the sensations are quite similar. I have always thought that I would cope well, I'm now quite scared and trying to work through my anxiety. I think it's the lack of control that is the most scarey. I'm hoping that when the pain is coming from inside my body it will be easier to cope with, instead of from someone's finger in my cervix! Kind of gave me a flashback to my egg retrieval, which I found unbearable. This week's u/s went ok but my fluid levels are on the decline, so they will likely induce next week if nothing happens over the weekend.

Taitertot - I've had the same thoughts - hoping that the sensations coming from inside my own body will be easier to cope with than someone poking around, etc!! Hope it gets things going for you! I like to think of all the women I know who've done it before me!

AFM - K is recovering nicely from surgery..at least so far. He's off the ventilator and off the pain meds but he's in withdrawal from the pain meds so super jittery it's odd to see a baby react like that so they've had to put him back on meds but a super duper low dose and are monitoring him. But otherwise he's fine thankfully. We bathed M on Friday night and then I got to try breastfeeding for first time. OMG it hurts girls! :( the nurse said if it hurts he's not latching on right he's only on the nipple but oh wow it's really painful i dunno how long i'll keep trying until I give up and just stick to pumping instead which doesn't hurt.

Hi ladies! Just finally caught up on all your news. I'm so happy for those of you who have had your babies now.
Flavah - I'm thrilled for you that K pulled through surgery.

AFM nothing exciting to report. The end of this pregnancy has been long and I'm feeling huge and ready to get on with it! My due date is today, but so far, no action. I've noticed more BH contractions in the last two days and a touch of cramping. Seeing doc today and he'll set an induction date in case. I'm going to try and push him as long as possible; I do not want a pitocin induced labour.

Anyone else dying of waiting for labour to start? :)

HI ladies! Just wanted to give you all a quick update

M is doing so well that the nurses say he's about a week or two from being discharged! Only issue he has right now is his reflux which needs to be fixed before they can send him home with me so that might delay us. But i'm so happy either way! He's weighing in at 4 lbs 12 oz as of yesterday so I'll find out if he's reached the 5 lb mark tonight when I go in to bathe him and they weigh him!! K is also finally looking so much healthier since his surgery! He was completely alert yesterday when we visited and DH was able to have a cuddle with him! He wasn't swollen anymore and he was so content and talkative adorable! I think he's closed to being sent back to the same hospital as his brother as soon as his high blood pressure is stabilized

Flavah so happy to hear the boys are doing well. That is fantastic that M may be home soon.

TCM Good luck at the dr. I recommend drinking Raspberry Leaf tea and getting DH to give you a calf massage.

Hello to everyone else. I am eagerly watching the board to hear of all of your arrivals.

AFM Weston is doing great. He was 4 weeks old yesterday. The nurse came and weighed him and he was 6lbs 11.5oz. He left the hospital 3 weeks ago and was 4lbs 14oz. The nurse said that he is doing fantastic and that I can stretch his feedings a little, which is great because up until now I have been waking him every 3 hours and I miss sleep. Overnight he slept 4 hours, which means I got 3.5 hours of straight sleep! Who knew I would ever be excited about that LOL!

Hi everyone! Just to let you know that I gave birth to our baby girl (called Flor, short for Florence) on my due date - Weds 5th Oct, at 8.30 p.m. She weighed 7 lbs 13 oz. I went into early labour on Monday afternoon after my third stretch and sweep and had pretty minor contractions for the next 24 hours off and on. I had a growth scan on Tuesday and they said she was doing better (they estimated 6 lbs 13 oz - a whole pound off! Guess there was never any problem there). Then on Tuesday afternoon the contractions ramped up but stayed at about 8-12 minutes apart. By Wednesday noon I was in a lot of pain and exhausted from no sleep and frustrated that labour wasn't progressing - my midwife came by and said I was dilated 3 cm but not yet in active labour. She suggested I try to rest (impossible) and by the time she came back at 3 p.m. to check on me, it was pretty full on and I was at 6 cm. I have never felt such pain in my life. We drove to the hospital during rush hour - nightmare -and once we were at the hospital I got in the tub. I started pushing at 6.30 and 2 hours later, there she was. I have to say I was a bit traumatized by the experience but looking back I'm so proud of myself (and her) for getting through it. We were home by midnight. It took a day or two to absorb what my body had been through and that she is finally here. She is so precious and adorable, and we are totally in love. I can't figure out how to attach a picture but when I'm able to think straight maybe I'll be able to figure it out!!
Hope everyone else is doing well and looking forward to hearing about more new babies!!!

Sorry I haven't commented in a while, I've been busy wrapping things up at work and am happy to now be on maternity leave :)

Taitertot - Congrats! I can't wait to see pictures of your new baby girl :)

TCM - I agree with with Robin's Egg, drink Red Raspberry Leaf Tea. I've been drinking it for a bit and a few friends of mine swear by it.

Robin's Egg - I'm glad to hear things are going well with your LO and that he's healthy and at home with.

Flavah - It's so good to know K is doing better and that M is doing so well. Keep up with the updates!

AFM - I'm hanging in here. My EDD is still 10 days away. I had my weekly appointment with the OB on Thursday where he did an internal and said I was "right on schedule." He warned me that I could bleed after the internal, which I did. I spotted and then stopped, but then started spotting again 27 hours after all bleeding had stopped. This spotting continued, so the following day I contacted Telehealth and they recommended I go to the hospital to get everything checked out. They did a stress test on the baby and another internal and told me everything was good. However, that day I had also started a rash so I asked the hospital doctor about it and he told me it was PUPPS. He also said the rash will only continue to get progressively worse and will not get better until after delivery. It started with a small section on my lower belly, and is now on my hips, thighs, my whole lower belly, under my chest, on my arms, behinds my knees and on one foot. It is the itchiest thing ever! When I was at the hospital the doctor offered to 'get my labour started' but I declined. Now that the rash has become almost unbearable, I'm starting to rethink that decision!

I can't wait to read about everyone's LO's as they arrive!
