Today I did my first U/S and baby is measured only 6 weeks 1 day; however I am 7 weeks 2 days. The dr. said there might be 2 possibilities: First, the baby stopped development in 6 weeks 1 day; second, the baby is developing slower than regular. He asked me to prepare for both. Another U/S will be scheduled next week to do a follow up.

I am wondering ... anyone has experienced or heard about the same situation? and what's the outcome?

Thanks for sharing.

Hi Sunflowers,

I'm sorry to hear about your ultrasound. I had gotten pregnant naturally at the end of May after my 1st failed IVF in March. When I went in for my
1st ultrasound at the beginning of July, I was measuring about 1 week behind schedule so I had to go back for another ultrasound the following week.
When I went back for the 2nd ultrasound, the sac was not even visible any longer. Apparently, my body had started absorbing the pregnancy. I decided
to have a natural miscarriage given all that my body had already gone through with the IVF and I didn't want to run the risk of any scarring with a
D & C..

I didn't expel the pregnancy until August, and my HCG finally reset to 0 in mid-September. This was the same pattern as my miscarriage the year
before. However, my RE and doctor said that it is unusual to take this long.

I do hope that things work out for you, and that your baby is just measuring small. I've heard of a few "miracle" stories from some friends who
have neighbours/colleagues that went on to have very healthy babies after being told that they have miscarried. I am keeping my fingers crossed for you.

I asked a RE from another board a very similar question. I had no heartbeat when I had my first U/S and I was told not to worry yet that I had a late implanter and that the next week it should be there or it would be classified as an abnormal embryo. I asked exactly how late an embryo could implant, still be normal and end in a healthy baby.
His response:
Late implantation can occur, but not more than a few days. If there is discrepancy in the size compared to the date in IVF cases, there may be a problem. There may also be variation in measurements with ultrasound, so it's always good to repeat it.
I certainly hope your heartbeat is there next week, for me I will tell you this time it was a bit easier to accept than seeing our heartbeat and having it gone the next u/s as in our first miscarriage.
How about some good news that may or not be helpful yet? There's some great stats that after a miscarriage, your chances of a normal pregnancy go way up if you conceive within 6mo.
Best of luck to you! Feel free to PM me if you like.

I agree with all the other posters. Sorry you are in pg viability hell. It sucks. I've been through a couple of miscarriages too so all I know is failure (until this one which appears to be doing well). I am hoping for a miracle but also hope that you will get a definitive answer very soon. This "uncertainty" is the worst.

Sorry sunflower , what you are going through is worst than hell , I've been there ,twice , my family dr told me either you will m/c soon or have an abnormal baby ,even though my babies had a heart beat but it was too slow coupled with slow growth
It usually happens with polysomie (extra pair of chromosomes ) and is more common with icsi
Will keep you in my prayers ,as they say miracles do happen so let's hope god that

Thank you very much for everyone's info and support! It really helps!!

We are definitely stronger than ever from our IVF experience.

The U/S has been scheduled this Friday instead of next week. They said it should tell the difference for these 5 days.

Me and DH are praying for the miracles.

Thanks again.

I have been through what you are going through this time last year and was told I would probably m/c in about 10 days as it appeared to be a very weak pregnancy. I was one of the lucky ones though, it ended up being a healthy baby boy delivered 2 days after his due date. I hope the same for you, don't give up hope!
