I just found this site and am hoping to find others who are going through what I am going through. Especially if there is anyone else who has a unicornuate uterus. I am getting ready to start my second FET. My first fresh IVF cycle failed in February and my first FET failed last month. I am so hopeful this will be our lucky FET. I would love to hear your stories!

Thank you,

Mary

Hi Mary,
I also have a unicornuate uterus. My first IVF cycle was in July which failed. I am currently on the 2ww of our first FET cycle. It is hard to find other unicornuates out there. I wish you all the best on your journey.

Just wanted to let you know that I know someone who had one, but she didn't have fertility issues. In fact she had three children. She was high risk, especially with her last child (not enough room for baby) so was monitored a lot - but in the end everything worked out ok.
Good luck to you!

I have a u/u and I heard of a lot of success stories where women were monitored a lot but otherwise healthy. Good luck to all of us, mishmash, bear and me! LOL!

Thank you for the positive post, CJ! It's awesome to hear! UU or not, did you otherwise have a normal pregnancy? Any advice on what to watch out for and/or do?

Hugs!

Little Muffin:

Why did they transfer 3 embryos? My doctor has said she will only transfer 1 due to the unicornuate uterus.

Hi Mort,

I am sorry to hear about your MC, but from all I read, women with UU are notorious for MCs. Getting pregnant seems to be the easy part. Hang in there!

Why I had 3 embrios transferred was never discussed with me: my doc decided to do that, I assume, because of my fairly-advanced-for-IVF age (almost 40), extremely low egg reserve, and UU, of course, to maximize my chances of getting pregnant.

In Quebec, IVF cycles (up to three times) are funded by the govt., but they insist on the following practices:
  • "Modified natural cycle (The cycle generally produces a single embryo.)
  • Implantation of one embryo at a time
  • The physician may, under exceptional conditions, transfer a maximum of 2 embryos if the woman is 36 years of age or younger, and a maximum of 3 embryos if the woman is 37 years of age or older." (my case) (http://www.msss.gouv...procreation.php)
Having said that, it is quite possible that even with UU, multiple fetuses are possible. In that case, I imagine, only one fetus should be allowed to develop. I've read about something called "selective reduction" where women with UU, are offered to keep only one of them developing to prevent any danger to the mother (http://home.earthlin...ir/unicorn.html). It is the woman's own personal decision, of course. With only half the space, I can't imagine there's room for more than one.

Cheer,

I just had my IVF-ET last Saturday and am so anxious. Do you think that the side that they put the embryo in the uterus matters with us UU girls. The reason I ask is I read that the side that the side the embryo is implanted is important as the side with the working ovary/tube has more blood flow/supply.
Can anyone shed any light? Given this is correct if the embryo is implanted on the wrong side it will not implant properly.

Thanks

Hi girls,

Here are a few articles I've looked at:

1. http://onlinelibrary.../uog.10056/full
2. http://annalskemu.or...iewFile/294/248
3. http://www.medscape....warticle/471012

I find UU is an obstacle, but there are many success stories as well: don't lose sight of these!

In any case, having UU isn't stopping me: I am doing my second IVF cycle now.

Cheers everyone,

mort54--I see that you are doing your IVF right about now. How are things going?

Also, referring to my earlier posting, remember that when they say that success rate in UU women's pregnancies is about 50%, it is based on a tiny sample of women with UU. There are about 1 out of 4,500 of us born that way, and not many see the fertility specialists since they get preggo naturally and don't know they have UU until their babies are actually being born. So, there is hope!

mort54--I see that you are doing your IVF right about now.

Hi Little Miss Muffin,

I saw your latest update and am sorry about your BFN, how are you holding up? I also got a BFN and will be going in for a FET in a week or so.
In my month off my doctor had me do a endometrial biopsy, have you tried one of those?

Will you be trying a FET or IVF again.

Mort

Hi Mort,

I am very sorry, too!

My WTF appt. is on July 30, but I am pretty sure I'll be doing another IVF.

What's "endometrial biopsy"? Why do you need to do it?

Good luck with FET: I am glad you had extras to freeze!

Hugs,

An endometrial biopsy is done by my doctor after a IVF BFN, it helps encourages implantation for future cycles. Basically they take a sample of your endometrium, this damages the endometrium lining causing it to renew itself which in turn increases implantation rates.

You should ask your doctor to do one before your next IVF

Little Miss Muffin,

You might also want to consider immune testing. I just completed mine and they have found some issue which are impacting implantation.

Thanks

Hey thought I'd join in here. Never realized this group existed. I too have a unicornuate and I'm currently in my 2ww of my first FET. Our IVF fresh cycle was done back in April which resulted in a bfn. I have a bad feeling this one didn't work either, we have about 6 days to go till the beta. I'm happy to hear there has been some success out there :) it's nice to know there are others out there who have gone threw these same issues.
