That's a great tip about the stress, thanks for sharing that!

Too bad your first clinic made you feel that way. Is Olive a new clinic in BC? You would think they would care more especially being new, to try and establish a good reputation.

My friend loved Sher/SIRM, though there were a couple of roadbumps I think. Like her first attempt there her eggs didn't produce and they had to cancel the cycle and he didn't know why. But maybe that's just the way it is, not his fault. He adjusted her protocol and it worked the next time. This was after previous IVF failure at a Canadian clinic. Yes it was her first time on intralipids.

That's great your immune tests were only $600... wow.   I'm thinking of dealing with preventmiscarriage.com because SIRM will only test people who are going to do treatment there and that's not my situation.

As for me, it's not full IVF because the eggs have already been retrieved.  It's not 'just' transfer either as they need to thaw the eggs and then fertilize. I am also interested in getting the embryos tested. Are you doing that?

I just recently changed my signature to talk about my frozen eggs. I kept it so secret for so many years that it was only recently I was able to even share that info with anyone. I used to be very scared of judgement, and the fact that I spent a lot of money doing it, and it's just very personal. But now that it's coming closer to the time of trying them, I am sharing with a few people including here. It has been helping me that it's getting more exposure in the news, not to feel like it was such an "out there" thing to do, while it was still "experimental".

Me: 40+, Him: 40, TTC: 4 yrs.
Dx: Egg quality due to age, Tubal factor (hydrosalpinx), suspected Endometriosis

IUI & IVFx2 = BFN

Next steps: Laparoscopy (excision surgery & removal of tube), Hysteroscopy, Endometrial biopsy, E-tegrity test?, Immune testing?

Froze my eggs when I was 37 & plan to use them after the above is complete.

Yup, Olive's fairly new in BC....a break off clinic from Genesis. Lots good about the clinic but I would have preferred they say we don't think we can do anything else for you but support you to continue on with another clinic. Or to say, we don't advise you to try again with your own eggs but if you're willing to assume the risk, we'll work with you. In any case, we're happy to have moved on - I just think there are some ethics involved in such clinical decisions and how a practitioner handles them and I wasn't happy with how Olive handled the situation.

That's great you have an option with preventmiscarriage.com. SIRM only drew my blood then shipped it off to be tested at ReproSource.

Yes, our plan is to do CGH testing on the embryos (provided we get some that get to that stage!).

Thanks for sharing about your friend's experience. I get the sense that Sher is willing to go back to the drawing board and re-jig protocols and individualize them for the needs of the person.

I think it's fantastic fantastic you froze your eggs. I only wish I'd done the same or had any idea it was a possibility! What a brave move when it wasn't as much a known option. I really wish you the best with it and look forward to hearing more about it all. :)

Olive consult January 2014

Have been taking CoQ10 600mg/day since January in preparation; acupuncture weekly

May 2014 IVF #1 (Olive Fertility): Estrace priming, Saizen, 225 IU Menopur, 225 IU Puregon, trigger Suprefact. 14 follicles and estradiol just under 10,000. Just 6 eggs retrieved, told they didn't look good; 2 fertilized, 1 survived and we did day 2 transfer (plan to do PGS/CCS went out the window). BFN

No more IVF's with OE recommended or supported; recommended donor eggs.

Currently consulting with Dr. Sher Las Vegas, CCRM in Colorado for 2nd opinion.

Decided we need to try again with a different protocol to see if it makes a difference (i.e. way less medication since I was a high responder last time).

Still doing some acupuncture to prep, CoQ10 200mg/day, prenatals, Omega 3's, vit D, wheatgrass, royal jelly.

August 18 2014 IVF #2 (SIRM Las Vegas): BCP, long lupron protocol. Cancelled due to ovarian cyst that needs to be aspirated. Back on BCP.

Immune testing with SIRM revealed elevated NKC's ~ will need intralipids before and after future embryo transfers.

September 29 2014 IVF #2 (SIRM Las Vegas): BCP, long lupron protocol (Lupron, Gonal F 225 IU, Menopur 37.5 IU, trigger HCG. 8-9 follicles and estradiol just over 4000. 9 eggs retrieved; 5 mature; 5 fertilized and 5 survived to day 3; 0 survived to day 5.

Hello ladies

Hope you're all doing well.  We did our beta last Wed and it was 231, repeated it on Friday 622 then again yesterday (Monday) 2410.  Things are looking good.  We have chosen to not do the 6 week U/S, last time we did our miscarriage happened the next day.  I realize there may not be any correlation but we don't want to take any chances with the vaginal U/S.  We are going to do weekly betas until we can have a regular U/S around week 8.  We are currently at 5 weeks 2 days.  My GS is feeling the usual pregnancy feelings, frequent need to pee, sore boobs and very tired.  I told her I'm sorry but sooooo happy at the same time!

Hi everyone.

I am new to this forum and looking for support for our first FET end of October (fingers crossed).

I am an Australian who has been in Canada for several months undergoing fertility treatment.

I am hopeful and trying to stay positive, but it is hard when you read and hear that our chances are low.  I understand that medico's need to be up front about this, but i also believe that being positive can make a huge difference.

Current medication: I am currently on day 5 of Suprefact, Pre-natal Vitamin, Vitamin D, Vitamin E and Aspirin.

Due to start Viagra suppositories and Estradot patches in the next couple of weeks. Oh boy what fun.

We met late in life and unfortunately due to blocked tubes (which i only found out when trying to get pregnant for the first time in my life) i am unable to get pregnant naturally. Due to my age (44yo) it would be very doubtful i would get pregnant using my own eggs so we decided to go with a frozen egg donor.

This will be our first attempt and i feel terribly nervous.  I truly feel like all the pressure is on me and hope and prey it all works out for us.

Would love to talk to others who are having the same experiences as me and how you cope leading up to transfers.

Good luck to you all.

Rit

Rit, I read your post this morning...I haven't been on the forum for a while as I needed to take a break. I am also 44 and I had the hope that ivf with my own eggs would work when I started this process back in February. I was so sure it would be fine as I had the egg count of someone in their 30's and a healthy uterus. Two fresh, and one frozen cycle later and I'm just now trying to get my period back to normal and battle the 10 pounds I've gained (a lot for my small frame... and very frustrating).

Still, I haven't entirely given up on the idea of having a child. I've had a Sonohysterogram done and have sent the results to a clinic in Greece for review so I can consider donor egg there in November. I also have an appt. at a clinic here in Toronto but fear the options they will present will be complicated and expensive. DE in Canada seems difficult.

How did you decide on doing frozen DE? I didn't think there were many clinics in Canada that deal with this. Also, why do you think your changes of success are so slim? DE has a 57% or higher chance of success does it not? Ahhhh... I keep thinking I was so silly to spend all that money on previous cycles when the writing was on the wall - my eggs are old.

I also had an early miscarriage after the first fresh cycle. I would have been 8 months pregnant...still can't forget about that loss.

Good luck!

Hello Ladies

I've been following along quietly, too worried I would jinx myself if I got too involved again.  Well we are happy to report that our GS went for her U/S last Friday.  There is 1 perfect little bean in there measuring 8w5d as of Friday which exactly what the measurements should have been.  Heart rate was 176.  I feel like I can breath a little easier now.  Now to just get through the next 3 weeks.  Crossing my fingers that we make it to the 2nd trimester.  Both my DH and I are 43, this embryo was from when I was 41 almost 42 years old.  We only had 1 blast to transfer so we are very happy that so far it is working!

Sending lots of good wishes to all of you.

Question for you ladies, have any of you done the NIPT testing?  If so why or why not did you choose it?  We need to decide if we are doing it in the next few days because it needs to be done by week 10.  Thanks

I did it, given that we used my own 44 year old eggs,  the risk of Down syndrome etc was higher. We would not have terminated but did want to know to prepare. Among other things, in my area there is an organization that pairs new parents of Downs with experienced parents but there is a waiting list so to be as proactive as possible we started with an enhanced nasal bone scan and NT testing with blood work. Our results were very good so we didn't go any further with testing but there are those who have screened in the positive range (since the NIPT is screening rather than diagnostic) and so had additional testing to more conclusively rule genetic issues out.

Fingers crossed for you!

Hi,

I did NIPT and FTS.  I was 43 1/2 when I conceived with own eggs and wanted to know as early as possible what was going on and an amnio seemed so late and aparently few do CVS in Vancouver (when I lived in Boston it was frequently done).  I also did FTS done at PCRM and then had a genetic consult afterwards where they showed me all my results.  Yes, I went a little over the top but I figure more info is better.

Also, NIPT does not have to be done by week 10.  It can be done  as early as week 10.  Before that there is likely not enough fetal DNA in the blood stream to detect (and only continues to get stronger).  I did mine at week 11 and the FTS at week 12.

Best wishes.

I did the harmony test in BC, and while I wasn't super high risk (age 33),I did have 2 m/c's, and am a ball of anxiety. Also seem to be that percentage that has weird stuff happen (false positive HSG, now a stubbornly low lying placenta), I wanted accuracy. Also test anxiety.
I had blood drawn at 12 weeks, but there wasn't enough fetal dna - it can happen if you have a high bmi, are really fit, or haven't eaten enough. So had it done at 14 weeks - well fed and drank a litre of orange juice beforehand. It turned out fine - I wasn't worried about Downs as much as trisomies 13 & 18 & Turners as they are generally fatal within weeks (Turners can be fine, or fatal, its a toss up). Downs has issues with eyes, thyroid, and heart though and can mean extensive surgeries within the first 6 months, so being prepared to make a decision about care and the future is great to have.

I'm actually super glad I got it done, as we have a Single Umbillical Artery (isolated), and knowing 99.9% that there are no genetic issues meant no further testing. Baby is growing like a weed!

We also figured, what's another $800 at this point? Drop in the bucket. The amnio just felt a bit scary, especially considering our weird luck, so a non invasive test was great. After we got the test results back, I finally started to relax and bond with the baby.
TTC - off/on since Jan 2009
Diagnosis - Male factor - Undescended testicle at birth, cancer of same testicle in 2005.
Most recent SA: 46 million/mL, 55% motility, 2% morphology (ouch)
Worst SA: 10 dead sperm (March 2011)

2 miscarriages - Sept. 2012 (trisomy 22) & Sept. 2013
Hashimoto's diagnosis - AntiTPO of 1147!

50mcg Synthyroid and feeling 1000000x better

FSH=7
AMH=3.3
AFC=22
Karotype normal

Hoping for a good cycle and lots of good embryos to freeze (not optimistic about the first round).

Congratulations Pam, I hope that you have a healthy pregnancy☺. We had the nuchal scan done along with the blood work. It was recommend by my ob because of my age. I was pregnant with twins, so the blood work doesn't really help, but the scan was normal so we didn't do any additional testing. Good luck with everything!
