What does it mean when you say that all your eggs couldn't be retrieved?

Hi gals, Since I am in my 2ww of a natural IVF cycle I wanted to post this article about it as it seems of particular interest to the over 40 and poor responder crowd.

http://www.independe...ch-2277983.html

If my DH would only believe in this approach...

Great article!

This part of the article reminds me why we never did "mini-IVF" (in quotes because different clinics have different names for it):

"So why aren't more clinics offering women this treatment?

Unfortunately, there is a view that the success rates with natural-cycle IVF are so low, it is not worth bothering with. And clinics that wish to remain at the top of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authorities' (HFEA) league tables do not want to offer options with lower success rates.

"In patients who don't have ability to respond to medication the only option is natural IVF but the chances of success are low and that is why clinics do not encourage it," says Paul Serhall, medical director of UCL's Centre of Reproductive and Genetic Health....
At Create Health, one of the few UK clinics to offer natural-cycle IVF, the couple was given a 7 per cent chance of having their own child. The main thing for us is that our chances weren't zero," Sant says."

...and to have their children, they did nine cycles of mini-IVF for the first kid (enduring three miscarriages in the process) and another three cycles for the second kid. So, TWELVE CYCLES! At the few US clinics that offer mini-IVF, twelve cycles would cost upwards of $120,000. And you can confirm, by looking at those clinics on the SART.org website, that the success rates are extremely low. Just look at New Hope Fertility Center in New York City--they do mainly or perhaps even exclusively mini-IVF, and their success rates for women 41-42 is only 8.4%. For women over 42, it's only 2.5%. Those are even lower than the national average (which is calculated mostly using normal IVF, not mini-IVF): 11.8% for women 41-42, 3.9% for women over 42.

In IVF#2 and IVF#3 for me, my RE could not get to my left ovary so they retrieved through my uterus instead of my vaginal wall - another option.  Hurt a bit more but very worth it for me.

I hope dhea works for you,do you test your blood dhea, testosterone,AMH?and do you know your AFC?

They did not do any bloodwork before starting it. My doctor does not feel strongly that it is useful but I had a low egg count last cycle and I told him that I was willing to try anything.  He suggested DHEA.  My antral follicle count is about 10.
