New on the block

I am new to ivf, new to blogs and tracking and forums but ready to go. I am 40 and met my dh three years ago. We pretty much started ttc as soon as we met but we lived in different cities so sometimes it was tough. Nothing was happening, we got all the tests and told we were in perfect health but the waiting got too much so I went to the RE and he said straight onto ivf for you! Probably my age...
I did my first cycle feeling confident and what a shock I got. I had a dreadful emotional reaction to the progesterone and also got a BFN. It was a very low week, but I am coming back up the other side readying myself for ivf#2 in January 09. I would love to share the cycle with some others, particularly those closer to my age, which I stress about alot.
Are you out there?

Sorry things haven't worked out naturally for you. I also have the added difficulties of being old and living in a different place from the DH and will hopefully be doing my first IVF cycle early in 2009.
Where in Oz are you? I lived in Perth for about 4 years a while back.
Anyway, you've found a great site here - the women are all very supportive and with their input along with that of the doctors there's lots of great info. There are also some very encouraging success stories of women here in our age range being successful which might be of interest to you.

I am hoping to start my Superovulation/IUI in January. I have done the IVF thing and have 2 "frosties" left but am leaving them for now to try something new. I would love to keep track of everyone here. I have to admit that the age factor is really starting to weigh on my mind. We will be a great support for one another. Here is to 2009!

ok then we are all in. It's going to be exciting, but are you finding December a pain to get through and do you just feel like you are passing time instead of fully IN life? Like life between cycles is irrelevant the goal is so strong. I mean yes it's good to get my health back, get some sun (Australian Christmas), but I just want January to come so I can get started. I am thrilled I am going to have company!!

So for January so far we have candiss, edaase (do I have spelling right?), stillsmiling, stillhoping, expecting2007, tabby, Paula and mouse. Hooray. BIG BFP's to us all. I feel so much fear and doubt as I write those wonderful words. Crazy, ha? My counsellor reassures me that those neg thoughts are just thoughts and not to worry about them, they won't decide the outcome. I have asked lots of women who have been successful and they all said they were full of doubts and convinced it wouldn't work, then lo and behold! I hope I get my 'lo and behold' too. Do you ever feel that you are left out of God's loop and the world's loop and you will never be part of it all with your very own family? That really pains me and I shouldn't indulge the fears because I have every reason to feel positive. It just takes DETERMINATION which clearly us January cyclers have in spades.
It's a test of patience don't you think?

Yes Edie, For Sure this is all a test of patience ! I would like to join in as well if you'll have one more. This is my 2nd time at IVF, the first one did end in one beautiful child. I am one of those 'lo and behold' people who you mentioned ! It has been quite the ride getting here, and now I am hoping for number 2. As another birthday creeps up on us all, here's hoping for bfp's all around !
Here's to Santa and may he 'bring on the baby dust'.

May I join you? I'll be doing my 2nd (and likely my last) IVF in January. As time passes, I'm getting more and more anxious knowing it will be my last try. I've done plenty of IUI's, and had a chemical pregnancy naturally when I was "taking a break "from TTC. Go figure!
It's so nice to know there will be a number of us in the same age bracket doing IVF in January! We can compare notes and give each other hope! Is this the only thread for a Jan IVF?

Me: 42 DH: 39
3 cycles with Serophene only
3 failed IUI attempts (with Serophene)
1 chemical pregnancy in June '08 (natural conception)
IVF/ICSI #1 July/ Aug 2008. Two 3-day grade 1 embies transferred. BFN
3 IUI's on natural cycles while waiting for next round of IVF

Took a break from IVF (well actually was booted out of my old clinic almost 2 years ago) so was doing IUIs with my gyno while I shopped around for a new one. Have a consult with a new clinic on December 18. Hoping to be cycling with you guys in January.
I turned 40 on December 1 and am feeling the heat along with you.

I felt negative all weekend then woke up today feeling positive. Go figure! I am on all the vitamins, Chinese herbs etc. Alot of work and $$$ but it will all be worth it. And you know what, we need to start affirming our age as a good thing and aren't we lucky we have ivf and many many women are doing it later - at least in OZ they are. Ivf is perfect for us.
There seems to be lots of us, it's going to be exciting having each other through that 2ww which I did on my own last time and it was terrifiying and hellish. I wasn't prepared and I went very low. The progesterone was torture. In the list of side effects they wrote 'severe feelings of sadness and unworthiness'. They weren't kidding. Next time I will be prepared.
Now if only I could learn how to use those pictures you put on the bottom of the messages...

Next step is FET with our lone frostie. Not optimistic. Sigh.
6/21/10: Took an emotional break and feeling better. Will try our FET in late summer and then we're done. But it's all good now :)
RIP, Dad 3/30/10. I'm glad you're no longer in pain but my heart aches.

It's a shame you don't like your clinic at the mo, it's important to feel confident in them don't you reckon? Or is it just that they are making you wait and ivf'ers HATE WAITING!!

But I must admit that each cycle, though trying, is teaching us both to be really patient and letting me know how very stong DP and I can be. I am trying to be very zen abouot this whole IF thing but truthfully some days are better than others.
Also-- glad to see this thread is heating up with all you wonderful ladies!

Mouse; too funny - 4 months; funny how we count things in months in this game. It's like being a kid again "I'm three and a HALF, almost FOUR!!" LOL.
Edie; not happy with my clinic as they don't seem be treating me like the invisible woman (or uterus? follicle?). After the m/c, I pushed for a bunch of tests for DH and I (this was my 2nd pg lost at EXACTLY the same time); they were reluctant to do much, simply falling back on the "age/egg" thing. We were supposed to cycle after 2 AF's (nov & dec) but they won't meet with me till the middle of Jan...which means 3 or 4 AF's till I can hope to cycle. At my age, well...'nuff said
Cindy - yippee! Another September-er LOL. I had a giggle at you and DP's idea of a fun pastime. Glad to see you still have your sense of humour and balance. It will be lovely to have you on this ride with us.
So....how's everyone gearing up for the holidays? I was bound and determined to keep it low key after the events of this Fall, but....well....the lights are all up (hello Griswalds), we attended our local Santa Parade yesterday and the house is getting decorated and I have wine stocked to the rafters tee hee. Let the games begin!
Anyone know if I'd get whisked off to the loony bin if I sat on Santa's lap and asked for a big, giant AFC for next cycle? Hmmmmm......
xxoo

Please give all the ladies here sticky, healthy, perfect embryos. We have tried very hard to be good and when we haven't been it's mostly 'cause of the meds.
Thnx!
PS I will leave the cookies and milk for you in the usual spot. Carrots and apples for the reindeer as well.
