I am doing an IUI cycle. I had an ultrasound this morning and I have 3 follicles - 19, 18 and 14. I'm not sure what my estrogen is yet, but it was 927 yesterday (when follies were 18, 15 and 12). My doctor says they do the trigger somewhere 16-20mm. I've read other posts where the trigger was when follies were over 20. I want to be prepared when my doctor calls - I was hoping that the 14 would be given a chance to get bigger, but of course don't want to lose the others that are at 18 and 19. Has anyone else been in similar situation and/or have any thoughts on when they should do the trigger shot?

Hi there.

I've done many IUIs (just finished one last week) and have done 2 IVFs (one cancelled) and I must say that if they didn't trigger yesterday, they will probably want to trigger you today. Follies are capricious beasts, but I think that your doc won't want to lose the 2 bigger ones as there is always a risk of over-cooking them. The 14 one might be a bit too behind to catch up, but you never know - I've had slow ones catch up before.

If you're on a natural cycle, they usually trigger when the follie is about 18mm. On a medicated cycle they let them go a bit bigger, but it's not necessary. Anything 18mm or over is fair game.

Wishing you a BFP!
