awesome Bridgey! I was told that sometimes the egg/sperm quality can affect whether they fertilize...so even they grab the little guy by the tail, that doesn't guarantee fertilization... congratulations on your great fertilization report!! :D

That is great that all 8 fertilized with ICSI....Take it from me ICSI is not a gauranteed thing....We had a devastating result in one of our cycles which we did ICSI and none of our eggs fertilized...It does improve the chances greatly of fertiliztion, and our clinic was shocked that none took especially since we had fertilization in the past.
When do you go in for ET???? Good luck to you, hopefully you will get the BFP this time around.
I am currently monitoring for our upcoming FET...We just had an unsuccessful IVF this month, just found out on the 18th of Sept...But we are jumping right back in to do a natural FET, my transfer should be in the beginning of Oct sometime.
Once again, congrats on the great fertilazation, and good luck with your ET.... Looking forward to seeing a BFP posted from you soon. :D
me: 32 (slightly elevated FSH)
dh: 36 (male factor)

IUI :8 all unsuccessful

4th IVF: BFN (5 frosties)
FET: currently monitoring cycle

BP - samething here...we were told at ER that ICSI was not a guarantee for fertilization. Our embryologist told us that ICSI usually results in a 75-80% fertilization rate...I remember thinking with 5 eggs that means I will only have 3 and what if they are bad quality...needless to sayt that we were ecstatic when all 5 eggs fertilized...!

Congrats on the great fert report on your end...you must be over the moon!

I'll be sending you all the sticky vibes and baby dust I can (hey my reconstruction vibes for your uterus seemed to have helped...LOL).

CH - yes you seem to be quite the foreman - or women in the case for sending out orders for building and getting things done :)

I'd like to have my empty house have a no vancancy sign posted out front with 2 new tenants living in it in the next few days :P..chop chop!

They'll only let me transfer 2 bummer....but after reading the stories in the selective reduction thread...maybe only 2 is a good thing!

I think my addiction to this site over the last god knows how many months has taken to strongly to me, i'll never leave this site LOL!

I dont want to get too confident either, heck they are not even in me...but i have a good good feeling which also equals a much harder let down, but I'll deal with that when it comes right now- GOOD feeling.

lmao - I've been so waitting for that comment from you lol! Ya big jerk, your eggs are fine- the protocol sucked.

Did you guys do icis...ya eh?

I totally believe unless your past menopause nobodys eggs sucks, its just how your stimulate them...see last time I had the 1 egg - dr told me "oh ya you must have terrible egg quality now we're dealing with MF and FF"...whatever look at me now bozo 8 eggs day 5 transfer...eat that...ok phew that felt good to get out.

All that to say hopeful - is that next portocol your eggs will fertilize and they WILL implant - because you'll be on the RIGHT protocol!

Bridgeypie,

You know what's funny?? My first RE told me the exact same thing - that we had an egg quality issue. I was like what???? You've got to be kidding me! I'm 26 years old with a decent FSH - why would you say that???? I didn't like that doctor from day one, he was so out to lunch. Our 1st cycle we had 0 fertilization with natural IVF but he never once mentioned that it could be a sperm issue. We also ended up doing rescue ICSI and STILL got 2 great embryos to transfer. I didn't get pregnant but that's not the point. If my eggs were soo bad then they wouldn't have fertilized period!!!!! We then used ICSI for the following cycles and always ended up with good embryos to transfer and plus a few to freeze. Arrrgh....it really makes me mad that RE's give out that diagnosis sooo quickly. That is a pretty horrible thing to tell a woman when they don't have real concrete evidence. If you have a crazy FSH reading than yah, maybe there's something to think about. I totally think it's all about how you are stimulated and also every cycle is so different.

We have now determined that it's the sperm not the eggs. The sperm just don't fertilize my eggs naturally. Sometimes I feel like calling him and yelling at him for doing that to me!!!!

It's really great that you are having such a good cycle. It sounds soooo promising!!!! In my opinion, a 5 day transfer is the way to go because technically that's the correct time for them to be in your uterus in the first place. When you do a 3 day transfer, they should really still be in your fallopian tubes (with respect to natural conception). I know it can work both ways but from what I've heard, the success rate is a little higher for 5 day transfers. I think it depends on the clinic too and how good their embryology department is.

You will have your little embies in you very very soon and then you can pamper yourself for a couple weeks!!!!

I'm sending you lots of sticky vibes :o)

So Im wondering last time I had 1 egg it fertlized.

This time I had 8 eggs they all fertilized...

im feeling excited but now Im wondering,...we did ICIS wouldn't the all fertlize anyways - and if they wouldn't - why wouldn't they?

I am new to all this lingo (spelling) - what is ICIS??
Our Journey to Parenthood
TTC Since September 2007 - Diagnosis "Unexplained Infertility"
Me 28 - DH 30

Sept 2007-2008 - Trying au natural - When it was fun ;)
Sept 2008 Refered to 1st clinic, what a waste of time
Dec 2008 - Told by old clinic both my tubes were blocked, going for a lap...
Feb 2009 - Lap. done, both tubes clear and open, were never blocked
March 2009 - Clinic gave us the wrong patients results - switched clinics
April 2009 - Started at ISIS
May 2009 - 1st B2B IUI - DH counts amazing, 72 and 42 million 90% mobility - BFN!!! devastated beyond words
June 2009 - IUI #2 - 3 Good follicles - June 16th (113 million sperm, 99% motility WOOHOO) and 17th!! Beta Day July 1st - 14DPIUI...AF arrived...wondering how much more we can take :(
July 2009 - IUI #3 - Changed to timed BD...CD10 (July 10th) Only one good follicle, 2.2 I think, chose timed BD instead of IUI#3, due to only one follicle - we are going to try "au natural " this cycle - BFN again...
August 2009 - Taking time off and enjoying each other, 1st adoption meeting Sept 16th, and I also have a free round of Gonal-F waiting for us at the clinic when we decide to go back - Became a Moderator here at IVF.CA!! Thrilled to be about to give back to a wonderful site and great group
September 2009 - Explored the adoption process with Halton CAS Sept. 16 then decided to take time off from TTC and save for more fertility treatments in the future...
October 2009 - Decided to submit our application for adoption (Oct 27th) and started acupuncture, will not give up we will have a family one day
November 2009 - Finally met Karolyn, she stayed with DH and I for 3 days, she is like a sister to me, and had a few wonderful meet up's with other amazing women from the site...words can not describe what an amazing weekend that was
December 2009 - Re-doing a bunch of tests - hopefully a few IUI's in the new year with a different protocol - Maybe PRIDE training in March
January 2010 - Results from SONO and HSG, all looks great, Right tube questionable, not a huge concern as per Dr. Saving for IVF as that is our next option...might be a few years, hopefully not. Hopefully our miracle will come before -Wondering why is this so hard??
Jan 2010 Cont'd - Accepted to PRIDE training starting in March, SAFE home study to follow...We can finally dream again...
March 2010 - Started PRIDE March 22nd - 9 classes, 3 hrs every Monday night - Enjoying the class, looking forward to the future, getting all our documents ready for our SAFE homestudy package
May 1st 2010 - BFP on a HPT!!! Holy crap how did that happen...May 2nd Beta 182...May 4th Beta 300...1st U/S May 14th - 1st U/S shows healthy miracle bean - H/B and all - 127 beats per minute, what a wonderful moment between DH and I

It's actually ICSI we have all been typing too fast. Intracytoplasmic sperm Injection. It's when a highly skilled embryologist injects each egg with one sperm using a tiny glass needle (it's more involved than that but that is the gist) . It is used for couples with male factor and those that are unexplained or those who didn't fertilize naturally in a previous cycle. It is usually an additional cost on top of an ivf. Hope that helps!
me: 42
DH 47
DX: unexplained
TTC: 6 years
5 iui, natural and clomid 2007 - all negative
ivf #1 January 08 2 blasts - negative

Hi Megan,

ICSI stands for "intracytoplasmic sperm injection" where they inject 1 single sperm into the egg to manually fertilize the egg.

There is definitely a lot of lingo to learn.

Take care,

Lindsay
