Anything else you would have wanted to know before you started this process: Before dealing with infertility, I would have wanted to know how it can challenge your patience and belief system to the very core; I have found strength in myself and in my husband that I never knew we had. I would have wanted to know that IVF isn't scary - it's a miracle of science. I would have wanted to know that I would find an incredible sisterhood in this crazy world of infertility with this forum, and that I didn't need to feel scared and alone. I would have wanted to know that it would work - all I had to do was keep the faith.

Anyone else successful over 40? (please????) Would love to hear from you.

Nickster

I am 41 and 4 months. I had a successful ivf with ER on the 17th of July and transfer on the 22nd. I am now 7 weeks pregnant with one miracle. Had my third eco 19th of August and heard the heartbeat. Back to my clinic on the 26th for another. Best care I have ever had. I tried tubal reversal surgery first (another clinic) with a twin ectopic. It has been a 3 1//2 year journey, but worth it in the end. I will be just shy of 42 when I deliver. I also had a cone biopsy in May 2008 to remove cancerous cells. I believe in miracles!

How many days between ER and ET:3

HPT before blood test: yes...many, many, many! First +hpt on 7dp3dt
Number of first beta: 100
Number of babies:very likely just one....first u/s next week!
Anything else you would have wanted to know before you started this process: That the ER process can hurt more than you ever thought it would - That if they give you valium to take the night before ER, you should not think twice about taking it - Really helps you sleep. That your worst days will be the day or two after ER. That you really don't have to feel any symptoms at all - and you still might be pregnant! Oh yeah - that the needles are really no big deal, the least of your worries, and almost completely painless. That the process is as hard on your mind as it is on your body, but so worth it in the end.

How many and quality/rating of embryos/blasts transferred: 2 8 cell A

What day you got your BFP: 12 days post transfer
HPT before blood test: NONE (I refused)
Number of first beta: 309
Number of babies: 1 beautiful baby boy
Anything else you would have wanted to know before you started this process: That the egg retrieval process was somewhat painful
*with the fresh transfer, when they inserted the catheter to transfer the embryos, I had quite a bit of cramping. With the natural FET, there was no cramping at all during the procedure and on my drive home I just felt really positive about everything. Looking back, I think I was feeling a connection to the embryos that I didn't feel the first time. I had also gone by myself (no DH) so that I could focus completely on ME and relaxing during the procedure - I think it helped that it was all about me at that point (nobody else watching or experiencing their own feelings about it - I know it sounds selfish, but I knew it would help me stay relaxed). Also, I didn't completely empty my bladder when it was all over. I emptied some, went home and emptied the rest at home. I guess I thought emptying completely would be a shock to my uterus. :o)

Anything else you would have wanted to know before you started this process: Don't ever give up! Sometimes it seems like this nightmare will never end. There are many dark periods during this journey however, you can never give up hope. Persevere and enjoy life with DH in the process. Be informed, reach out to professionals that can help you. Get 2nd, 3rd...opinions. We changed clinics and it made a huge difference. Stay calm and positive. Sometimes going in it with little expectation will bring out the best results. We changed clinics and did everything different. After going through IUIs and IVFs we went back to IUI, took a chance and it worked!!! God only knows but, believe in your body and stay positive!!! Hugs and baby vibes to all!!

Name: Kate
Age: 34 (35 in Nov)
How long TTC: Nearly 4 years
Diagnosis or any known issues: PCOS, LPD (low progesterone and estradiol), low volume/morphology/motility.
Treatments you tried before IVF: Clomid + progesterone/HCG, femara + progesterone/HCG (pregnant first timed intercourse month, loss at 8.5 weeks), femara + Gonal-F + IUI (one loss at 4.5 weeks with beta peaking at 500).
How many IVF did you do before success: 2 IVFs. First was cancelled for poor response (fluctuating and relatively low E2 for the number of developing follicles)
Are you using donor eggs or sperm: No
Protocol (meds taken): IVF #1 (cancelled) was OCP downregulation and short antagonist cycle with Gonal-F + orgalutran. IVF #2 (success) no downregulation (back-to-back cycles, waited 17 days for cysts to declare themselves and to get past major exam stress), then short antagonist cycle with Gonal-F + Menopur + orgalutran. HCG 5000 IU for luteal support at 12dpr and 15dpr.
How many follicles at ER: 18, with 12 of mature size
How many eggs retrieved: 16, 14 mature
How many eggs fertilized: 13 with ICSI
How many days between ER and ET: 5 days (11 made it to day3, 6 made it to blast)
How many and quality/rating of embryos/blasts transferred: 2 blasts (not told what quality, but had agreed to transfer 3 if the quality was poor. 4 frozen.
Symptoms or issues during 2WW: None really.
What day you got your BFP: 20dpER
HPT before blood test: Nope!
Number of first beta: 955 (15dp5dt)
Number of babies: 1
Anything else you would have wanted to know before you started this process: I felt like I was driving all the tests and treatments all the way along. DH was never as keen on kids as I was, and only really got into it after we had our first ultrasound in our first pregnancy. He had to be pulled through the IVF process a bit, and only now (at 14-15 weeks pg) is getting excited and showing enthusiasm about having a baby. I've gotten more anxious with each pregnancy, with those first early losses. I've really relied on online message boards like this as well as the blogging world for support during my struggles with IF. I was VERY happy to find an RE who was willing to listen to my input and design a very personalized protocol for us. I'm still praying hard that everything works out - please God let this be lucky #3!

Added Gonal-F, had BFP on first IUI, m/c at 5wks. No luck since - moved to IVF in April with antagonist protocol. No sign of O by day 27 - U/S and BW show "day3"-like picture. Started BCP 19.3.
