Anything else you would have wanted to know before you started this process:

While's it's impossible to say what made it work, doing everything possible to reduce stress was both the number what thing that makes this process survivable and the number one contributor (in my opinion) to success. While people always say "don't stress", I think in my case it would have paid off to listen to that advice earlier. People often ask what I did differently the time it worked, here's the list:
  • established, nay demanded, a small but good support network
  • changed my attitude toward my stressful job, since I couldn't make it less stressful
  • saw a therapist 4 times who specializes in infertility
  • took up yoga (but didn't exercise after the transfer)
  • ate very well but let myself have a few happy foods
  • gave up alcohol on day 1 of the cycle (except for one notable night)
  • reduced my caffeine for weeks before and during the cycle to 1 cup (gave up coffee with morning sickness)
  • asked my doctor to shorten the cycle (we used centrocide instead of suprefact, 7 more needles and expensive but less stress)
  • set limits with the clinic that my doctor could follow through on and reduced feelings of powerlessness
  • decided not to google any symptoms or read this forum during the cycle (weird, but it kept me from worrying)
  • avoided herbal teas except peppermint and red tea
  • made good sleep a religious obligation
  • set a goal to move on from treatment well before the cycle started so it wouldn't seem "endless" if it kept failing
  • didn't tell our parents when I was cycling
  • took two weeks off work starting with ET day
  • took 4 months off doing FETS before starting this cycle

Thank you so much for sharing your stories. Gives the rest of us inspiration. I'm currently on 6 dp5dt and I may have seen a very very very very light line on hpt but not sure. How on earth could anyone get a clear line on 5dp5dt. Is that even possible?????:/

Hi. I am 31and have been trying to conceive for 1.5 years. It's unexplained infertility which is so frustrating! Wewent to newlife fertility. The doctor and staff are great! We were at another clinic that moved so slowly. It would take three mths just to see the doc and get results. We switched to newlife and did an IUI but it didn't work. I then had a laparoscopy done in march. They found nothing. In April we decided to do ivf. In mid may I had my egg retrieval. They fertilized 15/17 eggs using Icsi. Only 7 embryos made it to the day five transfer. They put in two embryos since the doc said they were a little above average. I went for my blood test last Monday 7dpt and got my BFP!! My beta was 71. I went again on Wednesday and it was 131 and today is at 460!!! I can't believe it! Newlife is truly amazing and move so fast. In a span of three wks I went from having my injections to my egg retrieval to the transfer to the BFP!

Anything else you would have wanted to know before you started this process: That I wouldn't feel like myself for a very long time. That when I gave up hope, my friends, family and doctor would hold onto it for me until I was ready to take it back. That despite the fact every cycle seems so controlled, you can't control what happens, it is truly out of your hands.

Anything else you would have wanted to know before you started this process:

Most people are unaware that with PGD, there is a chance that we would have nothing to transfer. Thankfully, we had one healthy embryo for transfer out of 5 on Day 3 (3 were affected, 1 didn't make it to day 5).

A common theme for all IVFers (myself included) is THE WAITS. By that, I mean wishing we started the IVF process sooner, wishing that our RE appointment was sooner, wishing AF would come faster, wishing PGD didn't take so damn long, wishing nurses/admin staff didn't miss faxes and letters (yes, always call the doctors and nurses to make sure the paperwork is there!!!), wishing Christmas holidays weren't so long, etc. etc. etc. It took us over 10 months from the day we decided to go the IVF route to the day we got our BFP, yes, longer than the 9-month gestational period. While it's easy to focus on how long it took us to get to where we are today, I couldn't be more thankful of this time to force myself to be patient with the process and know that things are being done properly so that we can have a healthy baby at the end of the day.

Also, the worrying never stops. I never thought I would be so uptight in the first few months after I got my BFP, but I was because I am so much more aware of everything that can still go wrong. Yes, the 2ww was very hard, but be prepared that there's a much longer road ahead. I don't think any of us IVFers are able to fully let go until that baby is born (and then comes other things to worry about).

Also, be prepared for twins if you transfer 2. We knew it was possible, but because we had so many failed cycles we really didn’t think both would stick. We feel blessed to being having twins but scared.

Can someone please tell me how to find the list of questions that are on your profiles. New to this forum. Also I'm on my iPhone..thinking I might have to go on computer :)
Thanx!
Me 40 DOR
Dh 44
I had a planned full tubal ligation (took both tubes out) when my last baby boy was born 19 mths ago through planned c-section sept 20.2011.
Me: have a 21 yr old son, 10 yr old daughter, 19 mth old son.
Dh: has a 22 yr old daughter and our 19 mth old son.

Antagonist protocol jan 2013' first and only ivf started (as we thought only one :() They got 5 eggs and none fertilized (icsi was not done as recommended, consented to, and paid for)
Next cycle will hopefully start (fingers crossed) feb or march 2013.

Feb 21/13- day 2 of AF. 5 follicles on one side and possibly none on the other..DOC keeping me on antagonist protocol but has added 3 days of clomiphine citrate. Something about adding a MOS protocol to my antagonist protocol. Clomid for 5 days 2 pills a day & on cd3 started 300 bravelle & 150 menopur shots. Us & bw feb 27. Cd6 angry as heck! ONLY 2 follies supposidly found on both sides now...wtf???Feb 27. Cycle cancelled Gggrr we will see for next month :(

March 22.13~went to day 4 ultrasound this morning expecting my cycle to be cancelled cause two days ago re wasn't sure if I had a large follicle or a cyst. It was really hard to drive 1 1/2 hours then wait..and wait. Anyhow, I couldn't believe it when he told me we are going ahead. I think I almost cried tbh. I have 7 follies at this point. He's keeping me on the clomid for 3 more days and then I start injections tomorrow cd5. 300 bravelle and 150 menopur. I definetly am felling much better this afternoon then I did when I woke up :)

March 25.13~5 days of clomid and 2 of injections. Out of the 7 follies (1~12, 1~11, 1~10, 1~8 & 3~6) he figures we only have a shot at the 3 large ones and the small ones won't catch up. Cycle cancelled again:( I'm so mad and disappointed. Not sure if I can do another month

April 16.13~cd2 ultrasound showed 7 follies but..at this point we have 2 leaders at 6-7mm and the others are 3-5. Clomid cd2-cd4 and 300 bravelle 150 menopur cd3 & cd4. Us/bw Friday April 19. Grow my little follies grow! I can't be happy till after Friday.
