Vvanxious- great news! That is a good solid number! Hopefloats- you have every right to be disappointed- I know I would be if that was my result. I take it they were not planning on doing ICSI? Perhaps then you've discovered your "problem" in that the eggs didn't fertilize?

I am trying to decide about ICSI for us- we are definitely doing it, but they want to do 50% ICSI and 50% natural (assuming we get enough eggs that is). The thought is that we will then know if there is a fertilization problem, but really, I'd rather just have them all fertilize and have more to freeze than get the information that there is a problem so am almost leaning to just doing ICSI for them all. We have no MF issues. DH though thinks the info will be useful for future cycles as then we wouldn't have to pay for future ICSI. I hate the thought of already thinking about "future cycles". I want this one to work! Oh, I am on day 2 of stims and gave myself the bum IM shots no problem! They don't even hurt that badly- it is more the staring down the needle that is hard.

Well,

Not good news today. We had three "perfect" eggs but only one fertilized overnight. The RE is trying to do a rescue ICSI today. I'm so discouraged as we may end up with nothing. I'm so sick of hearing that it only takes one and that we are so young, we are perfect candidates. I really don't want to go through this again, I'm not thinking about the next time, how can I. I feel so bad for my little eggs. For perfect candidates nothing seems to go well for us. What is going on, do we have super bad luck or what? I'm just devastated today and even my DH is giving up hope. I hope all is well with everyone else and again sorry about the downer post but sometimes I just cannot be positive.

Hey HF its ok to feel the way you do, i too would be frustrated and thats why we are here... to help to support each other and no you do not have bad luck that one little egg will pull through, just keep telling it that it has to pull through for you. We are all her to support you :flowers:

Question did anyone have burning after their menopur shots?? because mine really really burns i didnt ice today because we were at a bbq and had to give the shots in the car

Island Girl - Yes, I did experience slight burning with the Menopur - even if I injected it slow. It was the injection I dreaded the most. Just finished up my last one yesterday and on to my ER tomorrow at 10:30am.

Best of luck!

Thanks for the response, yes i too cringe when i have to take it <_< it burns so bad but i took CoCo's advice and had DH do it slowly and it burned 90% less so i guess it works plus i remembered to ice, good luck tomorrow im going in also for my b/w and u/s to see if my embies are growing ill keep u updated. let us know how it went for you. Have sweet baby dreams, baby dust to you :zz:

cnc - great news that your embies are still thriving and you're doing a 5-day transer.
i'm glad you wrote about feeling crampy and bloated on day 3. i felt like i was going to die on my subway ride in to work. as soon as the convenience store downstairs opens, i'm going to grab some gatorade. holy geez.

why am i at work? good question. keep me distracted during the countdown.

TOgirl - we need to do ICSI b/c of the PGD. i think that with ICSI you have a slightly higher risk of birth defects.
hopefully this cycle will work, and you won't have to worry about "future" cycles. is your clinic recommending 50/50? i guess you'll have to wait and see how many eggs you've got.

hf - how are you doing today?

coco - thanks for all the positive notes!

hello to everyone else,

Hey everyone,

Thanks again for all the encouragement, when I get bad news this is the first place I find myself going. Today I feel a bit better, we haven't heard from the clinic yet today so we are not sure if the rescue worked. My DH and I had a long conversation yesterday and we don't want to give up on the one fertilized eggs but we do have a lot of questions for the doctors. We wonder how we could have been told to come to Calgary thinking we had 10 follicles and then the first day here, we knew it was only 3 good ones. Most clinics would not let someone go through IVF with only 3 follicles right? We need to find out about why I didn't produce very much on a large dose. We also need to find out why they didn't tell us to do ICSI since we only had three eggs (they told us simply that everything looked good and that we could do ICSI if we wanted). That isn't a recommendation, I hate how they just leave it up to us, I mean we are not the experts here.

VVanxious, how are you feeling now I hope you feel better soon. I have very little pain but that probably because I had so few eggs.

Coco hopefully your wait is going quickly for you, I know the waiting is hard but try to enjoy the downtime and get your DP to wait on you hand and foot!

Danielle D, how are you doing? Your ER is soon?

Hello everyone, I just got back from vacation (one week) so I missed stuff but I read the last page and see that Hopefloats is down and yes a bit upset at how some clinic thinks we know it all when really only 3 should have been given the best of chances... But again... one did work and this is your little one that is waiting for you to go and nurtur him... I think its going to be a strong little one... I feel the love already. Don't give up on him/her just yet that is a great idea...

I will pray for you and for everyone else having a hard time and also having good times.

Still nothing new for me... just received my contract with my donor so she is very very helpful... Love it.

Have a good day everyone.

Thanks for your well wishes ladies. I had my retrieval today -- my first one and I was really anxious. All in all, things went well. I did not feel a thing...drugs were good:) The retrieved 27 eggs -- no wonder I have been extremely bloated and uncomfortable. They were worried with over stimulation during my injections...and now being treated for it post-retrieval. Tomorrow I will find out how many fertilized as I think they got a bunch of immature eggs too.

For all you about to go in for a retrieval, it really is not that bad. It is the anticipation that is the killer.

Thursday is my transfer day. And then I will have fingers crossed that it works -- I will keep my fingers and toes crossed for all of you as well.

Stay strong ladies.

we're down to 6 embryos - today the clinic will be extracting cells to send for genetic testing.
hoping these little guys can hold on until thursday.

sending out good thoughts to everyone,
ck

Hey CK what do you mean by genetic testing?

Are you testing to see how many girls and boys you have?

Six sounds great... good luck with it all.

Vvanxious, you have 6 embies left that seems really good. I'm really pulling for you and you DH that you have all six to keep and they will be healthy.

Danielle D, so great 27 eggs you are sure to get a few good ones out of that. Even with hypersimulation you can do the transfer a little later and that will work out for you.

Island girl, great you keep going girl, sounds like things are moving right along for you.

Nickster, how are you doing, are you close to ER, really it isn't that bad, definitely the anticipation is the worst part.

Coco and Benyhopper, I cheering for you guys, the twinges I'm sure are a good thing and all my friends that have been pregnant tell me that the first thing they remember is being tired. So good luck to you!

Thanks everyone for the support I can't believe how instant the reaction is on this forum, you girls are great  .

Hi ladies,
Back from the clinic on day 4 of stims and I am showing 12 nice follicles. They seem pretty pleased with my response, so I guess I am too? Lining is thin, but I am assuming this is normal at day 4? Shots are going really well and I actually find the Intra muscular injection stings less than my lupron.

so much for things going well this cycle.
my RE tracked me down at work this morning to say we've only got 3 embies left and wanted to know if we still wanted to go through with genetic testing. (we are testing for a cancer gene).
i'm devastated. dh thinks there's a chance we might have a transfer on thurs, but our RE recommended we put these on ice and plan for another fresh cycle because it's not clear if we'll have anything to transfer.
we figured we've come this far, let's finish it.
not sure if i can handle another fresh cycle.
