First time claiming fertility stuff on income taxes...i'm sure an audit is coming
Red WineI filed on paper and submitted all my receipts so I didn't get audited. I even made a nice little spreadsheet for the gov't.
Mar 08 2014 09:51 PM
runner.girlGood to know. Never had enough expenses to claim the credit before so I'll be prepared since it looks like the first time is common for an audit.

KRKRI claimed it and didn't get audited.

New MFM told me today that I will feel "empowered" if I can make it through a pregnancy without a cerclage. I don't want empowerment...all I want is a healthy baby born at term! Needless to say, we're getting a second opinion! Why did my last MFM have to retire?
allcriedoutAnd secondly, heaven forbid that you take that dr's advice and things don't go to/as plan(ned), how empowered will they feel when you go back to them for help later on or if it is too late. UGH! Really boils my skin to see how lightly some Dr.s take out our situations when/bc it is not happeneing to them. Hope your new Dr. is better.
Mar 08 2014 03:03 PM
smurfette_wongI think your MFM is referring to your last pregnancy where you had to get the cerclage and be on bedrest for months? Maybe he/she means that you'd feel great with the single not needing cerclage? I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt, but definitely get a second opinion just to make sure! So happy for you with your pregnancy!!!
Mar 08 2014 03:17 PM
Emily81Smurfette- But there's no guarantee that an incompetent cervix is due to a twin pg(I had both as well) and def wouldn't want to attempt any pg without a cerclage..

Anyone use prednisone with an IUI cycle? Seems to be miscommunication between my two FC's. I called to get the script as previously discussed and started it and now I've been told that I have to stop because my primary RE says it's only for ivf?
mountainchickWouldn't there still be a potential immune issue even if it's an iui? I don't understand what the difference is between it being used for ivf vs iui. Plus isn't the steroid marched up with intralipids?
Mar 07 2014 09:26 PM
tjluvbugThat was my thought also which is why I had requested to go back on the prednisone. I even dragged up 4 research articles about prednisone and aspirin being indicated for iui when there is a history of recurrent miscarriage.
Mar 07 2014 11:19 PM
mountainchickInteresting... Maybe bring up that point with your RE? Maybe try to push for it again- what can it hurt?

Excited about the news that a motion to have the AB gov't pay for SET IVF is being brought forward by my MLA
L_in_CalgaryGreat step! I sent letter to my MLA 3 years ago. Got a letter back from Health Minister (MLA must have forwarded). Was not happy with the response then. Hope it is a first step toward funding.

Jane31I think in Quebec one of the arguments used in favour of public funding for ivf is that it can be more tightly regulated when the province pays for it. For example in Quebec you can only transfer 1 embryo if you are under 36. My understanding is that this rule saves money for the province since high risk pregnancies are more expensive for the health system. Do you know if that argument is being used in Alberta?
Exciting news! Congrats!
Mar 08 2014 12:19 AM
L_in_CalgaryYes, same argument. The generations of hope fund (at Calgary Clinic) contracted a economic evaluation of the cost/benefit. This used the early Quebec results to do estimates for Alberta. Got media attention but no gov't action.
